About Myra Macleod-Nolan
I am originally from Glenelg and was very lucky to grow up in this special place. Due to work commitments I have spent the last 34 years living at various times in five different European countries. I love to come back to Glenelg whenever I can and am always sad to leave.
Myra Macleod-Nolan purchased this House in 1999
Why Myra Macleod-Nolan chose Glenelg
Tigh-na-Camus was originally the local police house and I remember as a child being taught how to play badminton by the police officer who lived in it. Since my husband and I bought the house we have over the years sympathetically changed a lot in the house. The biggest alteration was when we added the modern extension to the rear of the property, though still managing to maintain the traditional croft house look at the front.
What makes this House unique
Tigh-na-Camus has a very special feel to it, tranquil is how many describe it, which is probably due to its age (it was built in approximately 1897) and its character coupled with the modern comforts & facilities of the large bright family kitchen and bathroom. The sun room is also a treat to sit in, be it when the weather is cool or super hot, the ever changing vista in front of you will work its magic. It is a view that you will never tire of or forget and probably like me, wish that you could take it with you when you leave.

C ottage in Glenelg
A good sized property, on the seashore, so ideal for those who want to kayak. The kitchen is well equipped which is a big bonus, although the local pub is only five minutes walk away. There's plenty of hot water, but we found the shower to be lacking in power. We did not find the heating system easy, primarily because the dials for the timers for some heaters, were small and difficult to read. There was an additional heater in the living room which made it cosy but not in the kitchen. We tried contacting the cleaner over another issue, the lack of dishwasher tablets, but she did not respond so had no one to help resolve the heating. The kitchen was therefore colder than we would have liked.
We had fun watching a sheep head butt the latches on the gates to gain access to the garden. She did not succeed at the front, but she did at the back. She gave our dog the shock of his life when he came face to face with her one evening after dark, and he's a border collie! Maybe an elasticated luggage strap or some such device would help to keep her out.
The surrounding area is beautiful and we were lucky enough to get a close sighting of a golden eagle.
We were caught out by the ferry coming back from Skye as the operators seem to have no way of warning potential passengers at the Broadford end when they are shutting early. It might be worth checking at Glenelg before you set out
We were very pleased that you liked the house and the location right next to the sea so much. Thank you for your 5 star review but we were so upset that you found the heaters confusing and missed the A4 explanation guide on the notice board.
It is so unfortunate that our caretaker was also in bed sick with a stomach bug and it was also a shame that the heating wasn't mentioned in your call as I am 100% sure that her husband would have rushed round to help.
The water pressure is indeed slightly lower in Glenelg but i always feel the softness of the highland water makes up for it.
Our back gate always has a tie rope on it as we are aware of the sheep problem. Unfortunately it seems to have disappeared but a new one has already been purchased to keep the pesky sheep out.
We were delighted to hear that you got a close sighting of a Golden Eagle, they really are so beautiful and BIG.
Thank you again for your five star review.
Great spot for wildlife and scenery
Excellent and would definitely recommend
(But take your own hairdryer!)
Very pleased to hear that you found Tigh-na-Camus excellent and had a great holiday. Sorry to hear that you missed the hairdryer as it is always stored in the unit in the dinning room to enable everyone to access it. Downstairs bedroom as well as the upstairs ones.
Superb, could not be better.
This house is as described and more, I would give my right arm to live in Glenelg in this house. We all had a fantastic time, the house had every available amenity and was beautifully clean and fresh. We really could not have expected more, even the internet was useable! The location, as always, is idyllic in Glenelg and just a short walk from the lovely Inn. We've stayed in three houses in this area over the last 2 years and this is by far the best.
Thank you for having us, hope to stay again soon.
Great place for a holiday
This house is fab. Clean, tidy and warm. Great sunroom on the front where we spent most of our time. Beds comfy and kitchen well stocked with everything you might need, even a slow cooker! Location is also wonderful, looking across to Skye and also down the sound. Also a bonus of a decent size garden which we got to use as it was sunny whilst we stayed!
Tigh-na-Camus had everything you need for a relaxing holiday.
Tigh-na-Camus was very clean, warm and beautifully presented. Lovely sized kitchen which was well equipped with everything we needed. In the evenings, after a visit to the glenelg pub, which is a five minute walk away, we sat in the sun room looking over to Skye until dark, it's a beautiful view. We will be coming back to Tigh-na-Camus and will highly recommend it.
