About Lizette Coney

Lizette and her husband Craig bought Le Guichard in June 2013, after having owned a successful holiday rental property in Devon, they were looking to continue in the holiday lettings business, but in a warmer climate. They now live here permanently with their 3 horses and 2 terriers. We fell in love with the peacefulness and tranquility of it's surroundings and the beautiful countryside. We were also looking for a property that would not only provide our guests with a high standard of accommodation, but could also offer plenty of local activities and Le Guichard has it all.

Lizette Coney purchased this house in 2013

Why Lizette Coney chose Grand-Brassac

On first visiting this area of France we immediately fell in love with it. It's location makes it very accessible from the UK & many parts of Europe. The area is a wonderful mix of rolling hills, winding rivers & extensive countryside views. It is a great spot to explore the many varied historic & cultural sites including a range of caves, chateaux, vineyards & pretty villages. Our property is in the countryside which provides a haven of tranquility ideal for relaxation & yet is close to many towns such as Brantome and Riberac with it's shops, cafes, bars & restaurants including the famous Friday market. The area offers a mix of outdoor pursuits and quiet lazy days wondering through historic picture postcard villages. This is a great holiday destination for either families or couples.

What makes this house unique

In this area of the Dordogne there is an abundance of outdoor pursuits and plenty of tracks leading straight from the property, for cycling, walking and horse riding or fishing in the local rivers. Nearby golf courses and many local markets and festivals. Or take a canoe trip down the river or meander around the colourful markets or the pretty villages. There is also the nearby leisure lake at La Jameye with a man made beach.

Our holiday homes are detached properties sitting in their own private gardens and of course there is the pool, with all pool furniture provided for our guests comfort and enjoyment. There is also our own Zip Wire ride ( see photos ) built in our own woods for the kids to enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What an absolutely beautiful house in the countryside. Peaceful location, great pool and equipped with everything you need. Lizette is on hand with advice on the area when you need her but leaves you to enjoy your holiday in privacy. So good we booked to come again in 2017 before our holiday was even over. Counting down the months, weeks and days until we return.

Les Oisons

  • 5 of 5

We had another wonderfully relaxing holiday staying in Les Oisons. The house is spacious and comfortable and has everything you need including a good size swimming pool which is kept very clean. It is set in a beautiful area surrounded by countryside with walks from the door. Cafe/shop two minute drive away. Only twenty minutes to Riberac and thirty to Brantom which both have wonderful markets. Thanks to Lizette for looking after us and booking the vets for us again! I'm sure we will be back.

Fantastic family holiday in a beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a fortnight back in July / August and we truly couldn't fault the place.

Lizette and Craig (not forgetting Jacko) were great hosts, always on hand to offer help and advice on everything from a weekend doctor for a poorly toddler to great places to eat and markets to visit. They were also on hand as needed to contact local businesses to make bookings or find out information.

The property itself is superb, well laid out, clean and spacious. The facilities available on the site really were brilliant, so much to keep the children (and adults) entertained, the pool was warm and clean and there were plenty of loungers for those lazy days chilling out in the glorious sunshine. The immediate surroundings made for some great exploring opportunities, good hills to run and cycle and the stars at night are a real treat and a must see.

It's a good walk (or very short car ride) to the nearest shop which is the only downside but there were plenty of bikes available to use to collect the croissants and fresh bread in the morning :-)

There are lots of leaflets and information available in the house and Lizette has lots of recommendations. We'd certainly suggest a visit to Lisle, Brantome, Grand Etang de la Jamaye and Saint Aulaye (a beautifully decorated village, with riverside beach and high rope activities).

We were a group of 9, ranging in age from toddlers to grandparents and there was something for us all. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here and may well be back to experience the 2 bed house next time.

Thanks again guys for a lovely holiday - the Walker, Smith, Graham clans xx

Rural peace

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely stay at Lizette's gite. The children loved the outside space, the pool ( heated in October so they swam every day!), the horses, dogs and cat! Our gite was perfect for our family of 7, and local shops could be reached by car in about 10 minutes. It was a good location for exploring the Dordogne, Limousin and Charente. The only negative was the poor Wifi connection which we could only get in one of the bedrooms, but it was quite temperamental. Other than this no complaints and I would recommend a visit if you need a relaxing and peaceful break.

Parfait en tous points!!

  • 5 of 5

The perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time staying in Les Oisons. Lizette and Craig were the perfect hosts. Les Oisons is beautiful set in a tranquil location with enough going on to do if you wish. The house itself is beautiful. Lizette and Craig have a wealth of knowledge of the area so can inform you or give you tips on things to do. We stayed here with our 3 children and some friends and their 2 children. We had a great time. The children loved the swimming pool, horses and of course Daisy the dog!! A trip to the night market in Vertillac is a must, you can soak up the atmosphere in the town centre whilst enjoying the local delights. A short drive too to lake Jami( sorry I cannot remember the spelling!!) for some kayaking and some beautiful walks. We will definitely return soon.

Peaceful relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Les Guichards is the perfect family retreat in the South West of France. Set in the breathtaking and tranquil countryside of the Dordogne area, Les Guichards offers the opportunity to avail of lazy days by the pool or active days exploring the local area on bike or foot. We indulged in some of this but also managed to explore the fascinating local towns of Brantome, Perigueux and Bergerac - all within an easy hours drive. Our hosts, Lizette and Craig were very welcoming and offered lots of good information about the local area. Their relaxed approach was in keeping with the environment and contributed hugely to what was a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. We would definitely recommend Les Guichards and look forward to making a return in the near future.
