Very unique location on Edisto Island in gated Cowpens.
Home has a front view of marsh and Edingsville Beach with a back view of swimming pool and covered creek dock.
There is a short half mile walk or bike ride to a very private Edingsville Beach which is known for its numerous shells, fossils and shark teeth.
The area reminds me of how beach communities used to be before over-development.
Edingsville Beach is two miles long from Jeremy Inlet to Frampton Inlet, which preserve its privacy, the only other access is through a private gate or by kayaking to the backside of the beach.
You can find broken china and artifacts on the beach which are remnants of the areas rich history.
There used to be a village of homes used by the area plantation owners in the 1800’s. The Village of Edingsville (nicknamed ‘The Bay’) was wiped off the map in the late 1800’s by several hurricanes. English brick and broken china still wash ashore. (The living room fireplace is built out of old English Brick found on the beach)
NO parties, weddings or receptions allowed on premise!!!!
And please note, access through the gate to the beach is pedestrian only. No vehicle or golf cart access.
Only a short 15 minute drive to Edisto Beach for golf, restaurants, marina, shopping and a State Park. Charleston is approx 60 minute drive and historic Beaufort is a 75 minute drive from the house.
The Marina @ Edisto Beach can provide deep-water access for your boat and usually have slips available to rent.

This home was perfect for our family vacation that included my parents, their kids and grand kids. There was so much to do! We fished, crabbed and kayaked from the back dock. We walked to the beach 2-3 times a day for shell and shark tooth hunting. The pool was a huge hit! The teenagers never complained about being bored because even when it was raining out, the house was great for games. I think we turned on the TV once. We spent family time on the front porch every morning and every evening. The bedrooms were just right and having that many bathrooms was great for a large family. And, the owner was so patient with the 500 questions my family had in advance of the trip. However, the best part of the week was when my future son-in-law proposed to my daughter on the dock!
Edisto was great too. My favorite meal was at the Old Post Office but the SeaCow was a huge favorite, judging by how many times various family members went there for breakfast and lunch. It was nice to be so close to Charleston, making a day trip there so easy. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this house and our vacation!!
Amazing home in the perfect location. We had four adult couples celebrating the 50th anniversary of our parents and this house was perfect! We had plenty of room, the dock was amazing for the evenings, and we walked to the beach for sunrise every morning. We loved every minute of our stay!
This corner of SC is quite undeveloped for the moment, and its natural beauty is heavenly. The island north of this house and the island to the south are both undeveloped, as are many areas of Edisto Island, and that has become exceedingly rare even in SC. For birders, shell enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoors, this is ground zero. Historians will love the numerous preserved churches and plantations, and the owners have a two-volume history of Edisto in the house that we thoroughly recommend. The house is very comfortable and practical, and stays very cool as it is heavily shaded from the south - the pool also has lots of shade. To make the most of your stay, rent bikes and kayaks - you can kayak or bike to the beach, take bikes and kayaks to Botany Bay (!!!), and tour the many dirt roads with oak and tillandsia canopies. Since renters may not use a golf cart, you need a plan to ferry children and elders to the beach, a fifteen minute walk, and one does very much regret the presence of carts on the beach itself. Oh and did we mention the perfect weather? A perfect house for an active vacation in superb natural surroundings!
Our recent stay at The Bay was absolutely perfect. Every few years we escape to Edisto, and we have never stayed at a nicer place. The home is well maintained, spacious, and full of natural light that can be controlled with curtains. The marsh view from the front, with the rising and lowering of the tides, is breathtaking at any point of the day. The beach itself is generally pretty quiet and not very populated with people at any point in the day, all of which keeps it quite beautiful.
It was nice to have the pool as well. It became a late-in-the-day gathering place for our family. Seeing the basketball hoop in the photo made my nephew bring his basketball, and he was so happy to be able to shoot some hoops during our stay. Though we didn't use the doc, my husband and I had a date on the swing one evening, the day of our anniversary. We had yet another lovely view of marsh. Oh, and the front decks on both levels are lovely in the morning... a nice way to wake up to the day with cup of coffee.
I loved how the home didn't have a TV in every room. We watched on the living room TV if there was something we wanted to see. We really, we had access to whatever we wanted to see streamed. Appreciated the wifi because it allowed us to check email, but other than that, we really unplugged.
We visited this beautiful home in July with my cousins. Seven of us are from Wisconsin, and four are from South Carolina. This was our second time here and we absolutely LOVE it. We love, love the pool, close to the beach. Collected a lot of shells and wonderful memories. It's a beautiful quiet location but so convenient to many of the other things to do in Edisto. Thank you for the most wonderful cousin time!
The house was perfect for us. The description of the house is accurate though the pictures do not do it justice. The house is inviting, nicely furnished and comfortable. The entire property is clean and well-maintained. We especially enjoyed the dock and the views from the front porches. The weather was a little cool for the kids to enjoy the pool, but it was so nicely kept and inviting they gave it a try any way. The outdoor fireplace is a very nice addition. We had a fire two nights and used the gas grill on 2 occasions. Our group consisted of my husband and myself,(we appreciated the downstairs bedroom) 3 adult children and their spouses, 3 teen-agers and a 3 yr.old. Space for everyone to share time together, but also places to have quiet time to read (sun room) or sleep late. Wish the beach was more easily accessible, (at least with golf cart) but all things considered it was not that big a deal. Definitely want to return.
