About the property

Cosy one bedroomed getaway minutes drive from the beautiful North Cornish coast

Mabel's Cottage offers a delightful rural retreat located on the edge of the moors and yet is only a few miles from the beautiful North Cornish coastline. The well known Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle are all close by, along with the beautiful beach at Trebarwith Strand, and wonderful walks such as the Camel trail and St Necten's Glen to name but a few!

Climb the Tor, meet the local sheep, cows, chickens and ponies, listen to the birdsong. We have swallows nesting in the summer and the famous starling murmurations fly overhead twice a day from late September until early spring. A real sight to behold!

We welcome one well behaved small to medium sized dog, so with access to the moors and our own field to play in, your pet can enjoy your holiday too!

Why John and Wendy chose Advent

From the minute we saw this 150 year old converted barn we fell in love with it. We really do have the best of both worlds.. from the stunning views over Roughtor, lake and moorland, to the close proximity of the rugged north Cornish coastline with its quaint fishing villages and wonderful surfing beaches.

If it is a peaceful and quiet retreat you are looking for then Mabel's Cottage is the place to be.

We love it here and hope you will too.

What a Gem !!

  • 5 of 5

This comfy warm detached barn conversion is a little gem and worth more than 5 stars , It is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the busy places yet conveniently placed as a fantastic base to explore the rugged North Cornwall coast and its famous beaches.

From your cosy seating in the conservatory with Tv, Your view is amazing and looking out onto outstanding scenery overlooking the lake towards the Tor and fields surrounded by sheep. Put some bird nuts out and an abundance of wildlife appear as if waiting in the hedgerows, At night the stars are amazing. Our small dog Basil loved the freedom of the large garden, and for the out of season couple, It has an excellent heating system for all year round use as a get away to recharge your batteries, the bed is extremely comfy , the bathroom and shower is top notch, Kitchen well appointed not that we used much bar having breakfast as we treated ourselves to the local various eateries in the nearby villages and towns. We found the owners John and Wendy to be extremely accommodating, lovely and friendly people, who respect your privacy and made us feel very welcome.

In a nutshell I would highly recommend Tor view whole heartedly and we will be returning without doubt as the standard of accommodation, location, peacefulness and views are fabulous…..

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Andy and Alison, what a nice review to have received, it was equally nice to have met you both and indeed Basil and that you enjoyed your stay here. The flowers you gave was a nice gesture, and as for the cakes you left......I didn't really tell Wendy as I ate them before she found out LOL!! We hope that all goes well with your Daughter Katie and indeed the birth of your granddaughter, please keep in touch and let us know. look forward to seeing you all again in the future. John and Wendy

Mabels cottage Ideal spot from which to explore North Cornwall

Property renovated to a very high standard, equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Lovely garden area with furniture and barbecue weather permitting. From the sofa in the conservatory you can see out across the garden over the lake to the hills and rough tor beyond.

Relaxing, restorative and fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We're always a little worried about a new property having had some bad experiences and this cottage sounded too good to be true, but it wasn't, immaculately clean with little extras that really help like tea, coffee, sugar and a cream tea and pint of milk in the fridge. The view is amazing, the owners are friendly and helpful but discreet. The bed is firm but comfortable and the shower is great. We had perfect weather which always helps but i think it would be lovely at any time of year. Can't praise this cottage enough.

Exhalent

  • 5 of 5

Thanks John and Wendy. We had a fantastic week at Mable's Cottage. The bed was comfortable the views were out of this world. With being disabled the door ways were great for my walker. The shower was really good big enough to get my stool in. We would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Geoff and Cheryl

A perfect Cornish countryside retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved this little place for two full weeks of slow living. Decorated tastefully in shades of stone and sand, the whole place felt restful and fitting for the stunning setting. It was fitted out to the highest standards too. Everything provided was great quality, from crisp bed linen on a fantastic mattress to gorgeous toiletries from the nearby St Kitts herbery in the shower. Sadly we can't replicate the bathroom at home, but we did go to St Kitts to buy some rosemary & bergamot shower gel.

It was really well located for trips out to explore the wonders of North Cornwall and there was a wealth of stuff on the doorstep - I'm not sure Cornish beaches come any better than the nearby beach at Trebarthwith Strand: it was perfection for pootling around peering into rock pools when the weather was cooler and for swimming on a hot day.

But we were happy staying in and around the property too, and spent plenty time relaxing in the garden with a glass of wine, a good book and that spectacular view of the reservoir, as well as running & walking the country lanes and identifying more species of wildflowers/butterflies/damselflies than we've ever seen before.

The hosts were friendly and generous with their bounty, leaving us to enjoy their garden in privacy, and giving us new-laid bantam eggs, gooseberries, blackcurrants and redcurrant from their bushes as well as all the help and advice we needed.

Wholeheartedly recommend this place for a couple who love a rural idyll and appreciate a tranquil bolt-hole after a day exploring the busy tourist attractions on the coast.
