About Greg Parker
We are a family of four - Alex, Greg, Elodie and Charlie. We split our time between Bordeaux (the essential) and Lafontan (the relaxing!). We've hosted guests before at another property in the Gers so know a lot about what people like, what they expect and what little touches make a difference.
Greg Parker purchased this Farmhouse in 2017
Why Greg Parker chose Labarthète
We knew the area already but fell in love with this house - from its original features to the standard of the huge kitchen, it has everything we'd dreamed of.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The views! There are, quite literally, views from every room. Even the downstairs WC! Sipping a cool drink on the terrace in the evening has to be one of the most relaxing things you can do. The pool is salt water (no nasty chemicals) and has fantastic views.

Peaceful Getaway in Gascony
Lafontan is a charming house set in a rural and quiet area of the Gers. The house has everything you need, including a pizza oven outside, which we didn't have a chance to sample. The kitchen is wonderful, completely modern and extremely well-equipped. One word of caution--the bedrooms are on the entry floor and you have to navigate steep steps down to the kitchen area, so it would not be suitable for a person who has difficulty going up and down stairs. The owner, Greg, is not on site, but is accessible through text and is very responsive. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place!
Family friendly farmhouse in peaceful location
We stayed as a family of four (one and five year old children).
The location was very peaceful, with lovely views of farmland across a valley (the valley also seemed to help generate a cooling breeze in the evenings).
The children's facilities were very good, with all conceivable facilities (including plates, cups, cutlery, etc) provided as well as a selection of toys and games. The Wifi was reliable and surprisingly fast for such a rural location.
The house was spacious and could have accommodated another family comfortably. The grounds are also extensive and offered great opportunities for the kids to explore.
We used the pizza oven twice during our stay, using the wood provided. We all enjoyed making our pizzas and the results were pretty impressive! (You can you tube tips for pizza making)
There is a winery 500m away which stocked us up for the week! Basic provisions can be covered in Viella, with larger supermarkets in Riscle and Aire.
There are a few local attractions. We visited a bird of prey centre around 10 minutes away, which was a nice half-day attraction. We visited the coast on a day trip. Two of the local villages have swimming pools. The pool in Racile was good with a toddler splash area, kids pool and main pool - also clean and well kept.
The owner and his man, James, were quick to respond to any questions. It was also good to know there was local, English speaking assistance if we needed it.
Gorgeous historical farmhouse in the Gers
We stayed for a week in Greg and Alex's charming farmhouse in the heart of the Gers. The house was spotlessly clean upon arrival and is clearly well maintained. There are plenty of historical features such as beams, fireplaces and even an inscription (in the master bedroom) from 1765!
Prior communication from our friendly hosts was exemplary, including various tips for day trips and other recreational activities. Greg was also on hand
(by phone) day and night to sort out minor issues such as wifi and replacement light bulbs!
The house is located on a hillside which affords great views across the pleasant rolling Gers landscape. Nothing could be better than sitting on the terrace, sipping local wine and watching the sunset, whilst listening to a chorus of cicadas. The house is beautifully isolated, but is only a brief 10 minute drive from the shops and petrol station at Riscle, and then on to other attractions further afield. We had a fantastic stay overall!
Some of our top tips for trips out would include:
1) The lake at Aignan was a hit with all the family - a shallow bathing lake with a bar / café and some exhilarating water slides
2) Condom - a charming town about an hour away with great epicurean shops / delicatessens and a fab restaurant called Le Balcon. Don’t miss the historical cathedral.
3) San Sebastian – about a two hour drive over the mountains and well worth it for the beautiful beaches and world-class restaurants
4) Carcassonne - more of a trek at 3 hours, but within striking distance with the péage
5) Bordeaux - less than two hours away - the attractions are well-known, but don't miss steak frites at L'Entrecôte
6) More locally Aire-sur-Adour - charming little town with good restaurants and peaceful strolls
Thank you for your review, and for leaving the house so clean and tidy. We're delighted that you enjoyed the house and the Gers and look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
