About Claudio and Ilenia
We are Ilenia and Claudio (called Baldo) we live between Africa and Corsagna where in 2015 we celebrated our wedding party in the magnificent garden of the house.
Claudio and Ilenia purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1800
Why Claudio and Ilenia chose Borgo A Mozzano
Over the years, renting the house has allowed us to sustain the maintenance and renovation costs of the entire structure preserving and respecting the ancient taste of the time. We feel that such beauty should be shared and for this reason we are trying to make this place more and more intimate and welcoming for those who want to come and visit us!
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Baldo's house was the ancient mill of Corsagna. The property is equipped with a large garden of about 150 square meters crossed by the gora, small artificial stream that once brought water to the wheel of the mill. The house is very spacious and ideal for families or small groups of friends seeking peace, nature and relaxation.

A Perfect Tuscan Escape
Located about 30 minutes North of Lucca the property sits at what feels like the highest point in the hill top village of Corsagna. The village is a mixture of modern and old but has a real vibe about it and the basic amenities (one shop and one restaurant/cafe) you require to get by, whilst maintaining that Tuscan village isolation. There are many local attractions worth visiting but most things require a 45 min - 1 hour transit time. Claudio and Ilenia have ensured you are well supplied with leaflets and local information so don't feel the need to plan in advance. The property's great advantage is it is peaceful with a garden with amazing views, so simply enjoying relaxing in the sun with a good book, soaking in the small but sufficient pool or walking some of the many forest tracks locally is enough to make a week disappear before you know it.
The house is lovely and has been very affectionately renovated to keep it's traditional character. Being the top level of the old mill it is set at various levels with 3 well proportioned bedrooms and a large open plan living-kitchen-dining area which feeds onto the garden. It is without air conditioning so in the high 30c's can get a little stuffy but being among the North Tuscan hills ensures a steady and pleasant cooling breeze you don't get down on the plains of Lucca and further South. Although situated at the top of the terraces it is surrounded by a moderately sized wall and the entrance and adjoining pedestrian pathway is separated with a higher wall and large gate giving privacy from the neighbours and preventing young children wandering too far. There is also a delightful Mill stream running through the garden which drowns out any suburban noise and puts young children to sleep in an instant. Correspondingly, it moves with some force and we lost more than a couple of balls and toys to it courtesy to a 3 and 5 year old. A grate prevents them being swept away but younger children should be carefully monitored. Finally, the Garden has a lovely BBQ area with necessary equipment which is perfect for a sunny evening, the gardens position ensuring you get sunshine all day.
In summary, a wonderful place to unwind in the peace and quiet with amazing views, a great Tuscan village setting and plenty of access to surrounding activities. Claudio and Ilenia thank you again, you couldn't have been more attentive, considerate and helpful to make it a perfect Tuscan Escape.
Perfect guests. Matt and his family were fantastic with their communication, they were independent, quiet and unassuming guests who left our place meticulously tidy and clean. They would be welcome back any time and we can highly recommend them as guest!
Special place, special people
Each morning we walked down the hill to Laura's shop for our breakfast cornet past trees full of peaches, figs, kiwi and persimmon, stopping to pass the time of day with our neighbours and to fill up our water bottles at the spring. We spent our days sightseeing up and down the valley: when the weather became too hot we took Baldo and Ilenia's recommendation to swim in the crystal clear local river, or just to sit under a tree with a good book. Our first evening coincided with Corsagna's wild boar festival, our last we spent in the village restaurant, feasting on Tortelli and Steak. Ilenia and Baldo went out of their way to make us welcome, full of recommendations for local visits and places to eat that always hit the mark, and showed great kindness to our family.
It's rare that we have a holiday so relaxing, or one where we feel so much part of the community. Corsagna is not a tourist centre: it's a working village, but one of great beauty in a stunning location. So book this house, use it as a base for visiting Pisa, Lucca and the Garfagnana, but also make sure you try out your awful Italian on the shopkeepers, drink your morning capuccino in Bar Branduzzi and get to know the local people and the close-knit community they have built.
Dear McManus's family, thanks a lot for your kind review and for your kind words regarding Corsagna community. It was really very nice to meet you and we are looking forward to seeing your family again...Thanks again and best wishes!
Tolles Haus, tolle Lage, tolle Vermieter
Fantastic spacious authentic house, perfect views, very nice hosts!
We spend a week in this very nice place of Ilenia and Baldo. Beforehand the contact with our host had been very good and that continued while in Italy. We met our hosts in the Corsagna-village after Whatsapp contact. Ready to guide us to the house.
The house itself is very spacious, with huge living room, nice bedrooms, decent beds en two bathrooms. Very nice kitchen with big fridge and oven. The garden is big and well maintained, with good furniture and with a nice small swimming pool, enough for cooling down 4 people. The views from the garden are great, both towards Corsagna village as well as towards Bagni di Lucca and the mountains beyond. In the garden you will also find the "river" nicely flowing (beware: makes some noise in the house you will get used to easily).
While staying here we visited: Lucca, Bagni di Lucca, Garfagnana Mountains, the Lima river for a swim, Pisa and the beach just outside Pisa (drive through Migliarino for a nice quiet beach!).
All in all, this is a great place to stay and enjoy Italy! Highly recommended!
A few points to note for potential future guests (1) guest need to park their car halfway between main road and the house. The drive up the mountain can be adventurous for cars that are not relatively high on their wheels (you will hear the car bottom each time you drive up). Parking the car is done, after some "handbrake-steering" under a big three with big branches at around 2m from the ground.
Dear Boris & Family, it has been a pleasure for us to host you in our home. You have been very kind with us and have taken care of our home. Baldo and I hope we can host you again!
