Beautiful private house, sleeps 9, with fabulous pool and countryside views

'La Grange' is a beautiful 200 m² converted ancient stone barn. 4 spacious bedrooms, 3 doubles and 1 triple ( 3 single beds), and one family bathroom are located on the galleried first floor. The ground floor comprises a spacious open plan living,eating and kitchen area with 3 sets of French windows opening onto the garden. The stone-flagged entrance hall is double height with ancient oak beams. A further shower room and utility room are located on the ground floor.

The 3000 m² grounds are idyllic. Open rolling views, mature trees, abundant flowers and a walled swimming pool provide the perfect setting for a tranquil family holiday in absolute privacy. The house is a 5 min drive to Verteillac, a pretty working village with essential amenities.

The ideal location for a perfect holiday. You are just a 5 minute drive to the village of Verteillac which has essential amenities such as a bank, post office, cafe, restaurants, bakery, butcher, church and amazing general store. This is a working village with markets throughout the year. The nearest town, Riberac, is just 15 km away and its Friday market is one of the biggest in the Dordogne and not to be missed. It is exactly how you imagine a bustling French market: lively, exciting and packed with the freshest produce. There's all the fruit, vegetables, meat and fish that you could with for and much more besides!

Within 30 minutes' drive you find many beautiful, classified villages such as Bourdeilles, and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with their picture-postcard settings, restaurants and galleries. Within 40 minutes you can drive to Brantome, the famous 'Venice of the Perigord Vert' and gateway to the Parc Naturel Regional Perigord-Limousin. With its beautiful chateau, Romanesque bell tower, rivers, shops and restaurants, Brantome is an essential day trip destination.

If you are like me though, you will spend much of your time in the garden enjoying the abundant flowers and enchanting views with just the odd chicken from the farm down the road to disturb you. On most days the only vehicle you might hear will be Victor the farmer going about his daily business on the tractor. Mostly it is unbroken peace and utterly blissful. When the summer sun is out in full force then of course a dip in the cool waters of the pool is just a few steps away. If you are looking for relaxation on your holiday then you will find it here! Time seems to slow down as you pour yourself another cold drink...

Getting here could not be easier as the house is conveniently situated for transport connections. Angouleme, with its TGV connection to Paris and CDG Airport (3.5 h) is just 48 km. You can pick up a car hire at the station (Europcar or Avis) and you will be in the house after a brisk 40 min drive. If you are arriving at the airport in Bordeaux, once in your hire car, you have a scenic drive of around 1h 45.

I viewed 40 houses in 4 days. This was the last one I saw and it was a coup de foudre! The house has a wow factor and beautiful countryside views...I love the privacy, the beams, the garden and of course the pool.

What makes this barn unique

Totally private, absolute peace and quiet with a real feel-good factor. This house was a second home for over 20 years and I have tried to keep that feeling...I hope it will feel like everyone's home in France and not a soulless rental property.

Peaceful, colourful, spacious, rustic, Barn

Deliberately and wisely located far from the maddening crowd for that restful holiday or base for exploring. Spacious and well equipped, fabulous grounds, several terraces to sunbath to escape the sun, pool to enjoy and relax around. Well equipped if adventurous, cycling, games, bbq. The building has a gigantic comfy lounge and well equipped kitchen. Bedroom are rustic, clean, comfy but lack a certain luxury eg air conditioning, bed fraem and mattress quality, that if present would rate this a 5 star barn. The locality offers small villages to large towns within a 30-60 minute drive and we had more than enough to see and do in our week. Friends make the difference between a good and superb holiday.

Picture perfect property in idyllic location

The house/barn conversion and swimming pool are picture perfect and exactly how you would imagine such a property in the South of France. We were 2 families with 3 young children between us staying for a week having spent the previous week near La Rochelle. We wished we had stayed there 2 weeks. The property oozes character, the rooms are all large, the 2 bathrooms very modern, and the whole place was clean and tidy when we arrived. It very much felt like a home. We had planned to travel around the region but with the weather so hot the children just wanted to play in the pool everyday which we were more than happy to oblige! It's a beautiful pool and kept in excellent condition. The area surrounding the house is extremely peaceful and the views over the countryside stunning. In the evenings we alternated between bbqs and going out to local restaurants, which were all very child friendly and the small towns and villages nearby are beautiful even if it seems half full of Brits! If we had stayed longer we would have explored the region more as there are so many places to visit...but we'll save that for our next trip. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. Simon was very helpful and responsive both pre and post holiday and a great owner to deal with.

Wonderful three weeks in this great house

We loved staying in this tasteful barn conversion in a bucolic setting in a stunning part of the Dordogne. The house has been nicely decorated and furnished and was well stocked and laid out. The various people who maintain the property (gardener, pool man, cleaner) were all discreet and did their work with minimal disturbance during our stay.The pool is beautiful with the added advantage of being set apart and gated from the main house and having a pool alarm. We had several young children on the holiday, so this was important to us. We ate most our meals on the lovely table that overlooked the setting sun each evening. The owner was most responsive and helpful before, during and after our stay. Ask before you plan your stay his recommendations for where to eat out, as he knows the area well. There are some good restaurants in Verteillac the small nearby village, which is quite cool without being overrun. Just a note: the local store is open on Sunday morning until 12:30 but is closed all day on Monday. The boulangerie is open all day long on all days except Sunday. Riberac, a 10 minute drive away has an excellent Intermarche, which is closed only on Sunday. A nice mid-size market on Friday mornings in Riberac town centre. Arrive early to find parking and get your pick of the lovely fresh meats, produce, and local products. A nice patisserie at the top of the hill on the main road. Riberac also has good medical facilities and a pharmacy if needed. Overall a very relaxing three weeks away in France.

Beautiful and spacious property

This is a beautiful and well equipped property that can comfortably cater for a big family or a large group of friends. It has a wonderful swimming pool beside the house, and well maintained lawn and garden with a lovely set of outdoor furniture to enjoy al fresco dining under the summer sun.

Great house

La Grange is a beautiful spacious and tastefully furnished country house. The house is big enough to host 8 people with a large living area and garden. Ideal place to get away with family or friends, kick back and get into a slower pace of life.

A little piece of paradiise!

Simpy amazing property, the owner Smon is great to deal with and the property more than lives up to your expectations. We easily accomodated 6 adults, the property is very spacious and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. Picture prerfect location and just what I envisaged a country property in France to be. Lovely surroundings and close to some great little villages that offer excellent meals that are exceptional value, especially at lunch time. There are even push bikes provided so that we could cylce around the countryside which was very enjoyable! then when you return you can cool off in the fantastic pool area. One of the most relaxing and enjoyable holidays we have ever experienced, you feel private and secluded and yet you are in reality very close to everything. We will be back for sure and highly recommend it .

Set in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Perigord Vert in the Dordogne, France, this house is 1h 40 mins drive from Bordeaux airport and only 45 mins from the TGV station in Angouleme. Within around 30 min drive are many idyllic villages such as Bourdeilles and Aubeterre sur Dronne and the famous town of Brantome is only 40 min away with its lovely shops, fantastic restaurants, canals and Chateau. The house itself is a superb barn conversion with spacious accommodation for one or two families. The four double bedrooms, two bathrooms and huge dining, living area provide ample accommodation and the garden with its stunning private swimming pool are ideal for the perfect French countryside holiday.
