About Linda and Keith Scowcroft

Chinley Moor House has been part of our family for a long time. Linda was born and grew up here, and we bought the house from Linda's parents after the birth of our first son, to bring up our own family in. Our two sons are now grown up and, since our retirement, we've turned our attention to making our home pay its way! We live here with our dog, Danny, and enjoy regular visits from our young grandson.

Linda and Keith Scowcroft purchased this apartment in 1950

Fantastic stay, lovely, well designed apartment.

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we have had a holiday with just the two of us for a very long time (kids now grown up etc) and the first time we have stayed in a studio apartment. We had an excellent time from beginning to end. Linda (the owner) made us feel very welcome and the apartment was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed including some extra goodies that we appreciated. It was roomy enough that we did not get under each other's feet and well equipped for preparing meals etc. The location was perfect for us too - a footpath runs past the cottage straight on to Kinder Scout. (We did the circular walk past Kinder reservoir, up William Clough, past Kinder downfall and kinder Low then back to the cottage via Coldwell Clough). It is also only a 15 minute drive to Castleton where we visited two of the show caves. We hope it will not be too long before we can find the time to book this apartment again!

What a great place!

  • 5 of 5

Location is fab and the cottage couldn't be nicer. Linda & Alfred have made a cosy home in the heart of the Peaks. Within a 5 minute walk, you can be away from civilisation and looking out at Kinder Scout. The start of the route is about a 25/30 minute walk from the cottage (and a beautiful walk at that), so is a perfect place to stay for walkers. I would highly recommend!

Great exploring Hayfield.

  • 5 of 5

A really enjoyable experience right from booking and throughout our stay. Linda and Alfred were very helpful with the booking and the studio was perfect for our break. Linda met us on arrival and explained everything we needed to know, even offering a lift home from the local pub! We spent 2 days exploring tha area, climbing Kinder Scout on Saturday then drove over to Derwet dam on Sunday, 30mins, to walk around the reservoirs. We had a choice of a few of the local pubs and both of us and our dog were made to feel welcome. A very enjoyable weekend break. Thank you.

A perfect little studio for us and our dog Skye!

  • 5 of 5

The studio felt pretty spacious for the two of us and our dog. Everything we could need was provided.

We could walk out of the door and start a walk off road immediately, just lovely!

Ideally situated for enjoying the Peak District without being in the middle of a tourist filled town.

The road it's located on is not a secluded quiet road but I slept well so didn't notice!!

Pubs for food are a drive realistically unless you are happy to walk down a dark footpath for a mile, or on a roadside.

Linda was very communicative and happy to help with anything we needed.

I would definitely recommend!

Thank you 😊

We're situated close to the picturesque village of Hayfield with its cosy pubs, winding streets and scenic views - and with plenty of potential for walking, fell running, mountain biking, horse riding and rock climbing in the rolling hills and beautiful countryside right on our doorstep, we're in the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts.

The larger towns of Manchester and Sheffield are within easy reach, so you won't run out of things to see and do, even on rainy days.

If you're looking for beautiful scenery, historic homes, or delicious afternoon teas, nearby Lyme Park, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton, or Edale are ideal day trips, as is the lovely spa town of Buxton.
