About Lisa Swindells
We bought the Old Slate miners Cottage in July 2015. We have always loved this part of Wales so decided to buy a property which we could use as a base to explore the area and return as often as possible. We take great delight in sharing our cottage with guests so others can enjoy this beautiful part of unexplored North Wales. My partner is a roofer and I’m a dog walker and we are from Warrington in Cheshire. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Why Lisa Swindells chose Blaenau Ffestiniog
Location, Location, Location! We love and adore our 1854 slate miner’s cottage for its original features and charm. It’s pretty, sweet and comfy, with a cosy relaxed atmosphere. It has the river to the front and mountain and steam train to the back. Within walking distance to the town. Great base to explore wonderful North Wales!
What makes this Cottage unique
River to the front of the cottage and mountains at the back, mountain stream to the side. With the steam train passing to the back of the cottage. Totally stunning sweet cottage.

Lovely quirky cottage off the main tourist area
Lovely clean comfortable cottage- with lovely quirky shabby chic style
We struggled with the key safe but the owner was extremely helpful.
We had a few days of amazing walks and really enjoyed staying in a village that for tourists is off the well worn areas . If you want to explore a different part of Snowdonia would highly recommend
We loved our stay in Lisa’s miners cottage in B...-Ff...(can’t pronounce it or spell it). But it was wonderful. The well-appointed cottage transported us back in time to prior times of slate mining. We enjoyed the beautiful stream in front and the steam engine whistling by in the back. We had great access to hiking, castles, steam train rides and much more. Thank you, Lisa.
Beautiful location being next to stream
The cottage had great location.kitchenvery well equipped -we are big home cookers so always need that! really comfortable beds.
Unfortunately, the living space in the evening was extremely cold. I contacted owner twice and she was unable to reset the heating, eventually appearing annoyed -her response being "I've had this all day can't you just light a fire?"(we being on a tight budget we're limited buying bulks of logs and coal for our short stay and struggled to get fire blazing anyway-we are used to open fire not log burner. There were a lot of fairly strict notices around about things we we're not to touch, we didn't in the end date also say that we couldn't really get shower to work or TV. The garden in the pictures is misleading-being tiny and with artificial grass
Sorry to moan but I feel I need to give my honest opinion. We are customers, rather than that owners are doing us a favour allowing us to stay in their houses!
All of this didn't spoil the fact that we had a beautiful time in wonderful north Wales.
Had a great holiday, the cottage is nicely presented & the log burner gives it a nice cosy feel in the evenings. Ideal location for seeing the sights of snodonia national park.
Nice cosy propert with comfortable bed. Well equipped kitchen all the facilities we needed
Despite the terrible weather on 1st 2 days we were there we enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately due to the weather we had to miss our planned climb of snowden. But, this is north wales of course. Beautiful area and we found the locals very friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to have had a pub in the village which did decent food , in that case we would have eaten out a couple of times . Caernarfon is a lovely town with a great castle . We also had a great walk followed by a swim on the tip of the peninsula just below Caernarfon.
Only slight downside re the specific property is when we first arrived we were unable to find parking within couple of hundred yards of the cottage which means we had to wheel our bags that distance up the road in the rain. But thereafter was fine , so I think must have been unlucky. Overall though really nice little cottage in lovely area
One thing I would like to ask is how our refundable breakage deposit is refunded , as we do not appear to have received info on this. Could you please let me know .. thanks
A very pleasant little cottage, ideal for two or perhaps a couple with a child. Fairly steep stairs.
Enjoyed our one week break here. The cottage is nicely renovated (unlike some of the adjacent properties), and had everything we needed. The log burner was a little difficult to keep in but otherwise we had no problems.
The stairs may be rather steep for aging folk or people with mobility problems. Rather too much furniture that didn’t serve much purpose made it feel a bit cluttered.
Super walks on the doorstep for active folk - and the scenery is just stunning.
This is a great base for travelling North Wales
