Superb barn conversion originally constructed in 1808 recently restored to a very high standard with many exposed beams and masonry. The ground floor is open plan and consists of a living / dining area and well equipped kitchen. There is also an adjoining double bedroom with Juliet balcony and stylish bathroom. The large upper floor mezzanine double bedroom also has its own lounge area with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Outside there is a courtyard with ample space for relaxing with a book or a spot of sunbathing. The gazebo provides an excellent shaded outdoor eating area.
France is our favourite holiday destination, and with this in mind we decided to try a different area this year for our holiday. My demands and expectations are very high for a holiday venue. This little barn fitted my expectations on paper, and from the very beginning of my communications with Cath and Derek I knew from the start that this was a perfect choice. Upon arrival my demands and expectations were not only met, but exceeded. Wonderful barn, spotless and fully equipped to a very high stand, and had everything we required. Our hosts Cath and Derek were on hand to help with any requests or information we needed, but also gave us our total privacy. The area around is both beautiful and peaceful, and the woods and nature take your breath away. I would highly recommend this venue, and do hope that we have the possiblity to return. A big thankyou to Cath and Derke. Best Regards Rita and Andre
Easy to find, clean, good service. Problems with fridge (sorted out quickly) and tv (not sorted out).
Can be recommended to anglophones.
This is a lovely, comfortable, spacious, well-finished house in a quiet, attractive rural setting with everything provided that you could need. Cath & Derek are extremely welcoming and are on hand if/when required with a wealth of useful information and suggestions. The location is very convenient for many interesting places and we spent a very pleasant, relaxing week that passed too quickly. Whole-heartedly recommended.
Having seen the property online, it seemed to tick all the boxes for us: the right area, the right size, the right price. The barn itself is lovely, decorated well and spotlessly clean, with some lovely features, and the views are stunning from just a few meters away. It is well equipped, including satellite television, comfy furniture, small but adequate kitchen, and comfortable beds. It is only a few km. from Argentat, a lovely market town, and there is a bread/grocer van that calls outside twice a week.
You will not find better hosts than Cath and Derek, for whom nothing was too much trouble, and were most hospitable, helpful, and great to talk to. (Cath make the most delightful flap jacks!)
We intend to stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone.
A wonderfully equipped, clean, modern and sympathetic conversion of an historic barn. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 under 6yrs). Nestled in a small hamlet on a hill this beautiful gite provided us with the perfect base for our one week stay. Cath and Derek are lovely hosts who keep their distance but are readily available should you need help or advise. One of our initial accommodation requirements was a pool. However, the lack of pool at this property was more than compensated for by the variety of fantastic child friendly lakes nearby (with sandy beaches and lifeguards).
Our third consecutive year in a wonderful part of France. As always Derek and Cath are the perfect hosts to the point were we are now almost treated as family. The barn is spotlessly clean and well appointed and the building and surrounding area is much prettier than the best photos can portray. The thoughts of beautiful peaceful walks along tree lined roads in dappled sunshine with birds calling, to long lazy lunches at Forges and Argentat kept spirits up through a long cold winter and spring at home. We even managed to see a family of wild boar on our first evening walk. Can't recommend this destination highly enough.
The gite is located in a small tranquil hamlet of 8 properties called Espargilliere, between Argentat (11 km away) and the larger town of Tulle (20 km away). The nearest village is Forges (1.5 km away) Here you will find the local boulangerie, convenience store and the Auberge restaurant, cafe bar and convenience store. Fishing and canoeing are very well catered for on the river Dordogne. The river is excellent for fly fishing for game (cat I) and coarse (cat II) fish. If you need to cool off an open air swimming pool ' Le Splash' can be found in Argentat or ' Lac de Miel' (16km away) for those of you who prefer a dip in the lake and relaxing on a sandy beach. The surrounding countryside is ideal for hiking and cycling or for the less ambitious, leisurely walks to take in the 'breathtaking' views.
Other Activities: canoeing
Golf: There are 9 and 18 hole golf courses 'Golf du Coiroux' which is approximately 25 minutes away.
