Nice property in quiet location. A bit far to walk into Luz. Well appointed house
It was perfect.
The property exceeded my expectations. It was quiet but only a short walk to the beach.
Really great, relaxing week
I could happily live in this villa! Really enjoyed it. Check in was easy via a key safe and pre-visit provided information, Clara the villa manager was really nice and accommodating with us dropping our bags slightly earlier than check in to save us carting them and our baby about!
It's a little bit of a walk down to the village but no more than 10/15 down and 15/20 back up. Shouldn't be a problem though unless you have mobility issues.
The villa was really nice, everything you need to prepare food and serve up. There's clothes washing facilities and an iron so it has shrugging you could realistically expect to need. Great area to sit out on. The pool was too cold to go in for a good soak and really too cold for our baby but it is April so that's to be expected!
I liked the area, residential feeling and quiet, very quiet! This was a mixture of location and being off-season. Suited us just fine though as that's what we were looking for.
I received answers to any queries promptly and everyone I dealt with was friendly and helpful. Can't fault any part of the service we received. One slight suggestion I'd make would be if it was possible to let the guests know when the cleaners would be arriving through the week ahead of time. This was maybe only noticed by us as we were trying to plan baby naps etc and wasn't a big deal at all but just a thought. (This may allay be don't but we didn't notice) The cleaning team were friendly and did a good job.
If you don't mind a little bit of a walk and you're happy with quiet surroundings then the villa and area is great.
All was clean and decent location, 20 minute walk from Luz or a short taxi ride. Enjoyed the holiday and the villa topped it off. Couldn’t get the microwave to work but that could have been us. Would definitely visit the area and use the villa again. Thank you to all involved.
Very comfortable Villa
Good comfortable accommodation, well equipped. Good quiet location, a car is definitely recommended. Only rated it with 4 stars due to the fact that the pool was cloudy and slightly green for at least 3 days and the shower door was loose and broken. This issue was hopefully going to be resolved. Everything else was excellent and of a good standard. Would recommend.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay in Villa Maria. It is a lovely villa. The issue with the shower door has now been fixed. We are not sure what caused the pool to be slightly green but we have advised pool maintenance to be more vigilant especially during hot weather. Many thanks for taking the time to write and we would be delighted to have you stay again.
Praia da Luz is a charming friendly village with a safe, sandy Blue Flag Beach. As well as the lovely family beach and promenade, the former fishing village has a post office, banks, supermarkets, jewellery, clothes and craft shops and a wide variety of restaurants offering traditional foods using local fish, meats and vegetables, and various ethnic food eateries.
All sorts of water sports are available at the beach including tuition, kids clubs and dolphin spotting boat trips. Tennis, cycle hire, football, horse riding are all on offer in the area, and of course there are many Golf options. The nearest golf course Boa Vista Golf is just a few minutes' drive away, Espiche Golf is also very near and there are many other excellent and championship golf courses within easy reach. All welcome visitors, but the normal dress code applies.
The extensive coastal path has wonderful cliff top walks with breathtaking views of the fabulous coastline. (It can be rugged in places and is not suitable for buggies) The walk eastwards to Porto do Mos, Ponta da Piedade for beautiful sunsets, Praia da Dona Ana, and onwards to Lagos is fabulous. The walk westwards to Burgau and Salema beaches has a different character, but is also a beautiful walk close to nature with amazing sea views.
Lagos, the regional capital, just 10 min by car, has a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets inside the ancient town walls and a great choice of shops, restaurants, pubs, a lovely palm-fringed promenade, marina, zoo and nearby water parks.
Zoo Marine and several water parks are within 45 minutes, for which transport/tours can be booked locally for a fun day's outing.
The coastline to the West and up the West Coast is stunning and you can drive on a smaller road, stopping off at different locations to view the rocks and cliffs and little beaches where you can often observe surfers taking on the strong Atlantic rollers. There are occasional small, excellent restaurants to help keep you fed and watered.
For a complete change in tempo you can turn inland to visit the spa town of Monchique, set in the mountains of the same name, and eat local dishes and chicken piri, and buy some colourful local crafts. North of Lagos and Portimao is the town of Silves, a former Moorish capital with impressive, still intact, castle walls that can be seen from afar. This is also a lovely town to visit with narrow cobbled streets and lots of little shops, restaurants and local crafts.
It can be hard to leave the easy laid back beach life on your first visit, but a trip down the coast and into the interior should definitely be on a 'must do' list for next time!
