About Andrew Okell
We are English, we moved to France in 2003 & we run the properties for a living. I have a keen interest in history & wine which we decided to combine into providing wine tours. My partner is a foodie who loves to cook, hence the catering. The cottages are built into a 18th century wine making barn. We designed them ourselves calling them Vines & Roses & we used only local craftsmen for the building & furnishings. We hope to offer a stress free holiday with almost anything you could want including baby sitting, cleaning & transport. As a result we now have many guests who return again & again. Our full day escorted wine tour had been a fantastic success. The French language was been a challenge until we decided to relax & admit that we would always sound like the policeman from “Allo Allo”.

We stayed in Rose Cottage for 1 week and had a fantastic time. The Gite was clean, comfortable and well equipped including a lovely little terrace with table and chairs - perfect for dinner outside. The location is great, very close to St Emilion and not far from Bordeux either. Andy and Richard were fantastic and gave lots of recommendations on restaurants and things to do. The homemade 3 course dinner when we arrived and various homemade apple desserts we had throughout the holiday were fantastic. We would highly recommend Rose Cottage for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday.
Excellent location, attentive host, wonderful.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by Andrew, our host.
Rose Cottage, accessed via the steps by the pool, is a petite, yet surprisingly spacious, gite for 2.
Everything you need is there, the welcome pack provided essentials for the first day and we also had a wonderfully prepared 3 course dinner which Richard had cooked for us ... just superb! A little extra treat in the form of lemon madelines were hugely appreciated after our long drive!
The outside terrace, overlooking the pool, was just delightful. Many hours were spent sitting on there watching the glorious honey buzzards soaring overhead.
Pool is just perfect for a cooling dip, not huge but big enough to do a bit of swimming, although lounging on the inflatable was much preferred to boost the tan!
Andrew was the perfect host, ever on hand (but not at all intrusive) to assist and often delivering gifts of food from Richard ... yum!
In the second week of our stay he organised a wine tour during which we were taken to 3 different locations, all producing wine in different ways, which was fascinating, and incredibly informative. Met some truly unique characters on this trip!
The wine tour was broken up at lunchtime by a visit to a local workers' restaurant. Not much to look at but WOW ... food to die for!
During our day out, Richard kindly looked after our pooch, which were singing grateful of as it meant that we could both enjoy the day.
Just fabulous... definitely planning to go back in the future.
A fantastic retreat with excellent hosts.
We had a lovely stay in Vine cottage for a few nights. It's a beautiful, private place with a shared pool although it was too cold for that in april!
Andy and Richard were excellent hosts, providing a delicious meal for our arrival and taking us and the other residents on a wine tasting tour around the area. The property was clean, well equipped and exactly what we were after, I'd highly recommend it. If you're lucky Andy might even pop around with excess dessert as he did when we where there!
Lovely Stay in Remote St Emillion
We had a wonderful stay at Rose Cottage - We would stay there again!
In a quiet remote location, three separate cottages share a communal pool. The hosts are very welcoming - offer home cooked food on arrival on request (very good food!) - offer wine tours in small groups (great fun) and are very knowledgeable and helpful about the local area and what to do!
Great place to stay in Bordeaux region.
Our host Andy met us on arrival and gave us all the information we needed to explore St. Emilion, Bordeaux and the local area. The accommodation was excellent and had everything we needed. An added bonus was a prepared meal on arrival, a bottle of local wine, pate, bread, cheese and other goodies. We later received some delicious carrot cake courtesy of Richard. We would have loved to stay longer and will definitely return.
Lovely spot for a relaxing holiday
This is our second trip to Rose cottage which in itself tells you something, as we seldom return anywhere.
The property is in a lovely quiet spot and is the best equipped place we have stayed - there is everything that you will need and more. With an outside terrace overlooking the pool you are well set for a great holiday - we would have liked a bit less rain but that wasn't anyones fault.
Andy is a fabulous host and there is loads of really helpful information about the area which really helps with the holiday. The homemade cakes are a definite bonus and worth visit in themselves.
One small thing - no pun intended but if you are tall you might find the bed a bit small and be better served at Rose cottage but this would certainly not put us off returning. A great place to stay!
THE AREA - The beautiful local villages of Puisseguin, Lussac, Montagne have boulangerie, small supermarkets, banks, chemists and 3 bar/restaurants. The local towns of Libourne and Castillion la Bataille have street markets Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and all the usual large hypermarkets. Bordeaux had an antiques market every Sunday. The medieval gem of St Emilion has a multitude of restaurants and wine tasting ranging from world class to casual dining. In addition, there are. daily wine tours & guided tours of its 12th century underground cathedral and catacombs
THE COAST/BEACH - Villefranche-de-Lonchat (13 km) is a pretty village with a lake-side beach complex. In addition the “silver coast” at Arcachon is 100 km away with its beaches, oyster beds, water park and Europe's largest sand dunes at Pyla.
