About the property

Lovely 1 bed cottage (double) with private terrace overlooking the vines

This tranquil cottage is set amid vines & beautiful villages but only 1.8 km to the village bar/restaurant, boulangie, & shops. It is 9 km to the medieval wine city of St. Emilion. Perfect for relaxing by the pool or exploring the Dordogne or Bordeaux & its coast. Built in an ancient winemaking barn it provides superb facilities retaining the charm of the original beams and stonework.

Rose Cottage – Accommodating two people (plus cot) this cottage has a galleried double bedroom & en-suite shower room. The modern kitchen & well-appointed living/dining area leads out onto a private walled/balconied terrace overlooking the pool & onwards over the vines. In addition to plenty of sun loungers & parasols around the pool the cottage's private terrace has a gas BBQ, more sun loungers, parasol & a table & chairs

Shared Pool – Each cottage has its own private terrace or garden but share the pool (4m x 6m). This has Roman steps and is walled & alarmed for child security. The pool terrace with plenty of sun lounges, tables & chairs for the 3 cottages is the setting for the owners' collection of eastern statues which are lit at night.

Facilities and Equipment - The cottage has traditional tiled floors and golden exposed stone work which contrast with the modern fittings and classic furniture.

•Facilities include sofa & chair, both interior and exterior dining tables and chairs, gas BBQ, sun lounger, central heating and fans.

•Equipment includes a Flat Screen TV with DVD player and UK Cable TV (Sky), dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer iron, hair dryer, safe deposit box, WI-FI and I-Pod docking station. We have no French TV

•All linen (including towels and pool towels), baby cot, high chair & bikes are available for free.

As we live locally, we can organise restaurants, cleaning, baby sitting or deliver superb home cooked meals. We take guests on wine tours so you do not need to drive. Alternatively just take the bikes and explore on your own.

About Andrew Okell

We are English, we moved to France in 2003 & we run the properties for a living. I have a keen interest in history & wine which we decided to combine into providing wine tours. My partner is a foodie who loves to cook, hence the catering. The cottages are built into a 18th century wine making barn. We designed them ourselves calling them Vines & Roses & we used only local craftsmen for the building & furnishings. We hope to offer a stress free holiday with almost anything you could want including baby sitting, cleaning & transport. As a result we now have many guests who return again & again. Our full day escorted wine tour had been a fantastic success. The French language was been a challenge until we decided to relax & admit that we would always sound like the policeman from “Allo Allo”.

Andrew Okell purchased this cottage in 2004

Relaxing Break

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Rose Cottage for 1 week and had a fantastic time. The Gite was clean, comfortable and well equipped including a lovely little terrace with table and chairs - perfect for dinner outside. The location is great, very close to St Emilion and not far from Bordeux either. Andy and Richard were fantastic and gave lots of recommendations on restaurants and things to do. The homemade 3 course dinner when we arrived and various homemade apple desserts we had throughout the holiday were fantastic. We would highly recommend Rose Cottage for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday.

Excellent location, attentive host, wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by Andrew, our host.

Rose Cottage, accessed via the steps by the pool, is a petite, yet surprisingly spacious, gite for 2.

Everything you need is there, the welcome pack provided essentials for the first day and we also had a wonderfully prepared 3 course dinner which Richard had cooked for us ... just superb! A little extra treat in the form of lemon madelines were hugely appreciated after our long drive!

The outside terrace, overlooking the pool, was just delightful. Many hours were spent sitting on there watching the glorious honey buzzards soaring overhead.

Pool is just perfect for a cooling dip, not huge but big enough to do a bit of swimming, although lounging on the inflatable was much preferred to boost the tan!

Andrew was the perfect host, ever on hand (but not at all intrusive) to assist and often delivering gifts of food from Richard ... yum!

In the second week of our stay he organised a wine tour during which we were taken to 3 different locations, all producing wine in different ways, which was fascinating, and incredibly informative. Met some truly unique characters on this trip!

The wine tour was broken up at lunchtime by a visit to a local workers' restaurant. Not much to look at but WOW ... food to die for!

During our day out, Richard kindly looked after our pooch, which were singing grateful of as it meant that we could both enjoy the day.

Just fabulous... definitely planning to go back in the future.

A fantastic retreat with excellent hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Vine cottage for a few nights. It's a beautiful, private place with a shared pool although it was too cold for that in april!

Andy and Richard were excellent hosts, providing a delicious meal for our arrival and taking us and the other residents on a wine tasting tour around the area. The property was clean, well equipped and exactly what we were after, I'd highly recommend it. If you're lucky Andy might even pop around with excess dessert as he did when we where there!

Lovely Stay in Remote St Emillion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Rose Cottage - We would stay there again!

In a quiet remote location, three separate cottages share a communal pool. The hosts are very welcoming - offer home cooked food on arrival on request (very good food!) - offer wine tours in small groups (great fun) and are very knowledgeable and helpful about the local area and what to do!

Great place to stay in Bordeaux region.

  • 5 of 5

Our host Andy met us on arrival and gave us all the information we needed to explore St. Emilion, Bordeaux and the local area. The accommodation was excellent and had everything we needed. An added bonus was a prepared meal on arrival, a bottle of local wine, pate, bread, cheese and other goodies. We later received some delicious carrot cake courtesy of Richard. We would have loved to stay longer and will definitely return.

Lovely spot for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip to Rose cottage which in itself tells you something, as we seldom return anywhere.

The property is in a lovely quiet spot and is the best equipped place we have stayed - there is everything that you will need and more. With an outside terrace overlooking the pool you are well set for a great holiday - we would have liked a bit less rain but that wasn't anyones fault.

Andy is a fabulous host and there is loads of really helpful information about the area which really helps with the holiday. The homemade cakes are a definite bonus and worth visit in themselves.

One small thing - no pun intended but if you are tall you might find the bed a bit small and be better served at Rose cottage but this would certainly not put us off returning. A great place to stay!
