About Trudy Waterhouse
We moved to Lakeside Barns in Bleadon in 2002. This property was the dairy of the farm next door, which consisted of an old large grain barn, which is now our home and other outbuildings. Over the years we have slowly renovated, Knoll, Mendip and South Hill Cottage. Bleadon and the Somerset levels and Mendip Hills are beautiful, we love it here and its been worth all the hard work.
Trudy Waterhouse purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Trudy Waterhouse chose Bleadon
We have both always wanted to live in Bleadon in Somerset, it is such a beautiful area. All our married life we have renovated properties and to find a barn conversion in the heart of Bleadon was fantastic. We are so pleased we have finished the holiday cottages so that now other people can enjoy this peaceful Somerset location. A real escape.
What makes this Cottage unique
While you are staying at Lakeside Barns the one thing you will notice is the lack of noise. At night apart from a hooting owl or call from a fox there is just wonderful silence. All the properties have outside lighting but because there are not any street lights you can really appreciate the illuminating night sky. We now have a seating area by our large duck pond, looking out onto the views and paddocks, a perfect place to sit and unwind with a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine.

Don’t go for the Spa
Trudy was amazing. The place is spotless and quiet, really good for getting away from the city and have a romantic getaway. However, do not go without a car as moving around the area is expensive and time consuming. The spa is not by any means a spa, it’s more of a leisure center falsely advertised as such :( the spa and sauna rooms are part of a run down gym, pool is ok but solarium is a lie (scarce, sketchy and dirty sunbeds). Treatments are impossible to book (massages etc) as it’s just one lady who has no timetable with the actual “spa”. We went and turned around immediately, wasting 35£ worth of taxis. As mentioned Trudys cottage is lovely (bed and linen are of a superb quality, better than a hotel really) family’s lovely and cleanliness is a five star rating. Only reason we gave it 4 starts is location is hard and spa was a local gym, if anything, not a spa at all.
Dear Nicolas and Nicola,
Thank you for your kind comments relating to ourselves and the cottage.
We do live in the country but yet close to WSM In our cottage detail’s it does mention that a car is recommended, your reservation for your 2night stay was very last minute and from your comments I was under the impression you were cycling as from our conversation that is how you were wanting to explore the area.
I was not aware that you did not have any transportation .
I am so very sorry that you did not enjoy your (free) Spa Visit the cost of your entrance is paid by ourselves as a thank you for staying in one of our cottages.
We have been members there for a number of years, no it is not like a modern city spa but there is a lovely swimming pool, sauna , steam room , gym and also a solarium! although the solarium is not mentioned in any of our cottage descriptions and the staff are most friendly and helpful.
We have never had anyone over the years ever complain before about their (free ) visit.
The treatments are wonderful and run by a separate business although on a bank holiday weekend would have needed to have been booked in advance. I do not know of any spa’s where you can get an instant treatment without prior booking and I do feel your comments were very harsh. The entry to use the facilities was (free) and no added charge was made to your booking.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say I was very disappointed in how untidy the cottage was left following your stay.
Cosy getaway in the Mendip's
Me and my wife had a lovely time away at the Mendip Cottage. The cottage itself is well suited for a couple and very comfortable. The location is nicely out of the way and quiet for those wanting a bit of seclusion. Trudy and Paul are great hosts who were very accommodating and also were non-intrusive to our break away. Trudy even had some scones and cream for us upon our arrival, which was very much appreciated. A highlight of the cottage is the access to the nearby pond which is very entertaining and a great spot to sit on the benches and feed the fish and ducks. There are also some Shetland ponies which are a treat to watch.
Overall, the cottage was just what we needed and was well stocked with the essentials and information on the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend a stay here for those looking to relax or for those wanting to explore Bristol or visit Cheddar Gorge.
Lovely cottage, clean comfortable magnificent setting
Fantastic little hide-away
An exceptionally presented cottage with all the facilities you have at home. Visitors are well cared for by Trudy and the situation is in beautiful countryside. The very good weather we experienced was the icing on the cake. Peter and Pat
We had a fabulous stay at Mendip cottage. It was a lovely cottage, very well equipped.
We would recommend Mendip cottage to anyone. It had everything you could possibly want. Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Absolutely spotless. Will definitely go back.
Lovely place in the Mendips
From the warm welcome with a cream tea and chocolates to the spa day at a local hotel, nothing was too much trouble for Trudy and Paul.
The property is beautifully finished with everything you could possibly need for a short weekend break or even longer.
It is in a good location to explore the Mendips and further afield if so desired or just to sit in the small courtyard garden and enjoy the sunshine.
Can't recommend this place highly enough.
