Wirksworth is a town full of character with many nooks and crannies waiting to be explored. The annual Well Dressings and Carnival take place Spring Bank Holiday weekend and the Arts Festival is held in September. The town is surrounded by rolling countryside, easily accessible from Fox Lodge on foot, and makes a great base for exploring the Peak District. The High Peak Trail, the first abandoned railway line in the country to be turned into a recreational path, runs across the northern edge of the town and extends 17.5 miles deep into the Peak District National Park. Open to walkers and cyclists, bicycles can be hired at nearby Middleton Top Engine House alongside the trail, or you can bring your own. Bikes can be stored in the yard with room for up to 4 bikes in the cupboard under the stairs.

A spacious and comfortable cottage in a perfect location
The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and very well equipped. There was enough of everything for the number of guests advertised, which may sound odd, but some places have enough for 12 people when only 2 or 4 are staying, and then there's no room to put your own things.
The location is ideal, with a very well stocked co-op store at the garage, just 3-4 mins walk, and another 2-3 mins gets you into the town.
Perfect also for walking, the High Peak Trail is just 10 min walk away, giving access to many walks.
A must to visit is the community garden and the puzzle gardens.
Our visit was in November, and the heating in the cottage was excellent, a really good place to snuggle up in the evening.
Well done Lesley, we'll be back.
Spacious and comfortable property. The open fire made the sitting room cosy.
An ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Comfortable bedrooms and generous bathroom. Handy area for dumping mucky boots and coats. Having an open fire going turned the sitting room into a cosy space and the large dining table was perfect for playing board games.
Lovely comfortable cottage close to Wirksworth and lovely countryside.
A light, spacious yet cosy and comfortable cottage. The Kitchen is very well equipped. The cottage has plenty of storage space for walking gear which is a must in this beautiful part of the country. We would recommend this cottage for families and friends getting together.
Beautifully equipped cottage in this lovely market town
Just back from a very enjoyable short break in Fox Lodge. The cottage was easy to find, beautifully equipped and spacious enough for 4 adults, 1 teen and 2 dogs. We arrived to some welcome treats (milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and dog treats) which was a lovely touch. The house was spotless and clearly newly decorated. Lots of little extras to make it feel very homely. The weather was lovely so we took full advantage of the outside deck area which beautifully captured the morning sun. The road alongside was fairly busy but the garden was secure so no worries about escaping dogs. . The local area had lots to offer with walks, points of interest, the Ecclesbourne Valley railway as well as welcoming pubs and excellent restaurants in the town. Would definitely recommend.
