Why Elizabeth Tough chose Thollon-les-Mémises
We fell in love with the view, then the layout of the property. It has such a cosy feel, and for a ski apartment, the bedrooms are a good size. The big picture windows at the front mean that wherever you are, you can always catch a glimpse of the view. We can also walk to everything in the village easily, and get onto some breathtaking walks in just a few minutes.
What makes this Apartment unique
We never tire of the view. To see so much of such a beautiful landscape is simply awe-inspiring. And it changes every day, and every season. We have sat on the balcony all evening and watched dramatic summer thunder storms far away in Switzerland, lighting up the mountains. Some days we can see up to 30-40 miles away. In the Winter you can watch snow storms coming in from far away. At night, you get a sense of the scale of the lake, with all the twinkling lights below. It is food for the soul, and we feel re-connected with nature whenever we are here. We have fallen for Thollon hook, line and sinker! It offers the perfect mix of mountains and lake, with snow in the winter and sunshine and warmth in the summer.

Thollon-les-Memises Winter break
We recently stayed for a week in the lovely Thollon-les-Memises resort. Not your typical ski resort but great for a quiet break for a change. Travelling there by car, it was relatively easy to find, especially with the instructions provide by the owner which were comprehensive.
The apartment itself was brilliantly located next to the lift station but we found it was fairly quiet so did nit stop us enjoying the apartment. From the lounge area and the main bedroom there were windows and balconies with views over Lac Leman that were very nice and the resort itself is an ideal place to view the lake in all it's majesty.(note - the balconies do not get much direct sunlight from what we can tell). It is adequately sized but would be a struggle for more than 4 adults purely because of the overall size, A separate toilet and bathroom which may put some people off and these rooms are usable but quite small. However it was generously equipped with everything to make a week's stay enjoyable from an accommodation perspective, well done to the owners. It is a smart place and as described
Unfortunately we picked a horrible week to go with very strong winds throughout, with heavy rain on a few of the days, blizzardy snow on others and because the resort runs do not go up that high the snow did suffer, being very wet and grabby. There is nothing that the owner can do about the weather.
It's a place I would consider visiting for a couple of days of skiing again, although it is a bit limited with older lifts. The plus side is out of general holiday periods it seemed to be very quiet and we are considering gong back again during a future summer break because it is a stunning view and handily placed to get to other parts of the lake, being fairly close to Evian.
If you do go, as long as you get the weather you will enjoy yourselves.
Thank you for your detailed review. I am sorry that you were so unlucky with the weather. We would love to welcome you back again in the future.
Kind regards, Liz
Very welcoming place to stay, near all accommodations for the ski (20m from the télécabine) with a view on the Lac Léman.
Very well furnished appartment with a unexcepted DVD collection for adults and children.
The owner of the place (Liz) is a very nice person answering very quickly to any kind of demand.
We enjoyed very much our stay and will definitely come back next year
Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm pleased you enjoyed the DVD collection. We look forward to welcoming you back. Liz
Great appartement, with an amazing view!
The appartement is great, it has everything you need!
It has a great view over Lake Geneva and is only a few meters from the lift to the Thollon ski area. So in summer and winter it is perfect.
Thanks very much for your lovely comments. We hope to welcome you back again.
Fabulous lake view!
The apartment was very clean and well stocked and Elizabeth was very responsive. We especially enjoyed the recommendation for the fromagerie in the village!
Thank you for your lovely comments. We’re glad you visited the fromagerie. It is a bit special. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, Liz
Well equipped, smart and comfortable - with a great view!
Elizabeth was so helpful when we had to find a new place to stay last minute! The place was easy to access, the apartment was well equipped with everything we needed. The movies and heated towel racks were a nice touch too! Only suggestion is to get a WiFi unit in the apartment as the connection to the local “Free WiFi” was spotty. Thanks to all of her help up front, we had a smooth 2 week stay. It was lovely!
Thanks for your lovely comments. I'm really pleased we were able to help you out of your predicament! We are looking into the WiFi option, so thank you for mentioning it. We are hoping that our development will get a shared WiFi. Many thanks, Liz
Great Property, and a Very Helpful Owner who is easy to deal with
The property is Ideal as my partner is disabled. It has lift access and also a shower which is easily accessible. The views over Lake Geneva are stunning. The property is well maintained, and if needed the owners have a very helpful person who can be easily contacted should you have any issues. We have used the apartment twice now, both times in the Summer months and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay both times.
Thanks so much for your great comments Al. I'm pleased the apartment works well for you, and that you enjoyed your stay again this year. You are very welcome.
Thollon-les-Mémises is a collection of pretty Savoyard hamlets and villages located in the Pays de Gavot, a plateau overlooking Lake Geneva- Lac Léman, just above Evian. Situated at around 1000m, Thollon offers spectacular views over the Lake and to Switzerland beyond. It is perfectly positioned to take advantage of both lake and mountain. The Télécabine (Gondola cable car) takes you up to the Mémises mountains behind the village, and is open throughout the ski season (Dec-March) and also in July-August, and at weekends in June and September. In the summer, there are walks for all abilities, or simply enjoy the views and some lunch on the terrace at 'Le Repaire de l'Aigle'. In the winter, Thollon is a well-managed, family friendly ski resort with 50km of runs, ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers. Staff at the tourist office are always on hand to offer help, and organise many activities throughout the year. The village has several shops and restaurants to ensure a relaxing stay.
Other Activities: Rafting, markets, snowboarding, sledging, snowshoe walks, wine tasting
Golf: Only a 10-15 minute drive from Thollon, the course at the Evian Masters Golf Club is in a wooded park of 60 hectares, overlooking Lake Geneva. It is a challenging 18 hole, 72 par course. Every July, the club hosts the Evian Masters Ladies' tournament, which brings together the 90 best players in the world. Numerous packages for golfers are available. Why not combine a round of golf with lunch or a spa treatment at one of the two associated luxury hotels, the Hôtel Royal or the Hôtel Ermitage.
Ski: Just a stones throw from the apartment, the cable car takes you up to the ski resort. There are approximately 50km of runs, mostly north facing, between 1000-2000m altitude (16 pistes: 9 red; 4 blue; 2 green and a 6km cross country ski track). There are also tracks for snow shoe walks. 2010/11 saw a substantial investment in the new snow park with a half-pipe for snowboarders. The resort is very well-managed, and has many snow machines to ensure good coverage on the main pistes throughout the season. The resort is served by 3 chair lifts and 11 ski lifts. With the ski school (ESF) in the village, the resort is ideal for beginners and intermediates, and is particularly good for families, with lessons for 4 years and up. There is also a crèche in the village. There are several good ski hire shops. The town organises many events and activities, especially during the school holidays. The Portes du Soleil (Morzine, Les Gets, Châtel) with 650km of runs, is only a 45-50 minute drive away.
