Perfect lake retreat
Owners so easy to communicate with and accommodating. Cabins were charming. Kitchens had everything you needed for cooking, plus large seating areas. Lake is pristine, fun water toys. The property is absolutely amazing combining flat yard space for games and also Sandy beach area with shallow water to end of dock for kids to swim. Plenty of space and private. So many fun family activities. Can’t wait to come back.

Fabulous place!!!
Very private with trees & trails surrounding the property. Lake is very clear & beautiful. Shallow for quite aways out, making it safe & fun for younger kids. Great beach. Played badminton, volley ball & soccer. Cabins are quite comfortable & spacious. Wonderful beds . Large kitchen with amenities for large group. And their golf course is a lot of fun. We loved this place! Also, the owners are very nice, involved & responsive.

Wonderful stay
This was a perfect spot for our group of four families with teens. The lake is absolutely stunning! There is so much to do- our group loved playing golf on the duffer course, volleyball and of course paddleboarding and kayaking on the lake. Can’t wait to come back!

A beautiful Northwoods experience at Sugarcrest
This is an unbelievably gorgeous piece of property. There is the Big House and Little House (lots of bunk beds) for accommodations with a nice big kitchen and living room in the Big House. The water in Sugar Lake is a crystal clear aquamarine color and with the sandy beach, two kayaks, two paddle boards and a canoe we were set for our stay. Our group of 13 ranging in age from 63 to 2 all had a wonderful time!

About the host

My family and I are thrilled to share this historic and magical retreat with you. We're lake lovers through and through and are big believers in blending the best of the past with modern day luxury. We grew up at the lake and, despite traveling the world and living throughout the U.S., haven't found anything that beats time at the lake making memories with family and friends. Whether we're hiking the trails, fishing the lake, battling it out in the "lake olympics" or telling stories about days past, one thing is clear: life is just plain better at the lake.

Why they chose this property

I'm sure we're a bit biased but Sugarcrest sure is a special and magical place. The open spaces, the forest and trails, the authentic Northwoods cabins perched above aquamarine Sugar Lake...when you're here you feel like you have a resort all to yourself. It's as if you've traveled back to a simpler time when life moved at a slower pace. The kids have space to run and play while the adults relax or join in the fun. Sugarcrest was first settled by pioneer Tom Hughes in the 1800s. He had his pick of the lake country and chose Sugarcrest as the best spot to call home. He traded with his Native American neighbors who had their own special brand of maple syrup, helped Art Otis build the original Sugar Lake Lodge and lived an epic life on the shores of Sugar Lake. In the years since, much has changed in the world and around the lake but all the best of Sugarcrest remains. We've poured our sweat and our love into this property and are thrilled to have the chance to share it with you!

What makes this property unique

Pioneer Tom Hughes selected current site as first settlement in 1892;
700 feet of prime Sugar Lake shoreline with a great sand beach and a sandy lake bottom with gentle water depth to end of dock;
20+ acres of beautiful hardwoods and 5 acres of clear, flat, mowed grass for all of your favorite activities and events;
9 hole 'short iron' duffer golf course;
Over a mile of trails;
Extremely private yet located two doors West of Sugar Lake Lodge; perfect for additional lodging, eating out (fine dining or a good bar and grill) or recreation (18 holes of golf, etc.).
Two cabins oozing with authentic Northwoods character but with all the modern luxuries you would expect: fiber optic internet/wifi, cozy beds, open kitchen, original lake stone fireplace, etc.
