The property is situated in the centre of a small village. The village has an award winning bakers, butchers, bar/ tabac, pizzeria restaurant and take-away, convenience shop, as well as a chemist, post-office all of which are just a 2/3 minute walk from the property. Our village also offers two local award winning wine producers with wine tasting available.

10 minute drive from the renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte where you will find a variety of restaurants, weekly market, shops and large supermarkets. La Rochelle is just a 35 minute drive as are the famous Vendee sandy beaches For children, there are theme parks locally and the re-knowned Puy de Fou park within an hours drive. A superb nature zoo just 10 minutes away or one of the best aquarium's in La Rochelle. We are within an easy drive to the Marais Poitevin, Mervent-Vouvant forest or if you feel like staying local, borrow our bikes and enjoy a cycle along the river banks and see the beautiful canal views and wildlife.

Excellent access by air from La Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers airports or by car from the channel ports.

A converted Scierie (saw mill) our apartment has been completely modernised whilst maintaining some of its original features including stone walls, original “A” frame bean and oak lintels over the windows. It is located on the first floor with its own front door and stairs. La Petite Tannerie is suitable for couples. It comprises of an open plan kitchen / dining room / lounge overlooking your own terrace area. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with electric oven, 4 ring electric hob, fridge/freezer and micro-wave. There is a modern style dining table for 4 people. Separate utility area with washing machine and storage area is located on the ground floor. The lounge has two, two-seater settees, wide-screen TV with English freeview and DVD player. There is a selection of DVD’s and books for you to enjoy during your stay. Free WIFI is available throughout the apartment and terrace area.

The family shower room comprises of toilet, washbasin with built in cupboard, shelving and mirror, shower cubicle.

The apartment comes with its own terrace area and includes a charcoal barbeque, table and chairs, perfect for relaxing in the sun. You can also benefit from the heated swimming pool (shared) (4m x 7m) (opened mid May - mid Sept subject to weather) and sun loungers located within the Farmhouse just across from the apartment. All outside areas are maintained to a high standard and both pool and garden will be maintained by the owners during your stay. The property has a secure car park.

About Emma and David Barton

Myself and my husband moved over in 2011 having brought our property in 2010. Our property hadn't been lived in for over 40 years so we spent one year and 1 day renovating it using local artisans for such things as plumbing, heating and electricity. We now live a lovely life style of alfresco dining and welcoming guests to our property. We have one small cat that wanders about the garden called Pike who loves tickles if you so wish.

Why Emma and David Barton chose Vix

Located in the centre of the village just a 2 minute walk to an award winning butchers and bakery. We also have a pizzeria restaurant for eat in or take away. There is also a bar in the village. We are within easy reach of La Rochelle, Ile de Re, Fontenay-le-Comte, Vendee beaches, the forest of Mervent and one of the most beautiful villages in France, Vouvant.

The area is filled with canals and therefore very flat perfect for cycling, walking or even just taking a picnic down by the river. There is also a local bus service from Vix to La Rochelle which will take you through some of the local villages and providing a lovely afternoon's adventure.

Another brilliant holiday at La Petite Tannerie

Lovely apartment- spotlessly clean with everything you could need on holiday. Great patio area and beautiful pool in immaculate garden. Emma and David are perfect hosts - friendly, hospitable, generous but never intrusive.

Enjoyed seeing Tour de France go through the village and the fireworks. Great visits to the Ile de Re and La Rochelle .

Thank you again, Emma and David for a wonderful holiday . We do hope to be back.

Another perfect holiday in this lovely apartment

This was our second visit to La Petite Tannerie and we cannot praise it highly enough. The apartment is spotlessly clean, well furnished and everything you could need is supplied as well as many extras.

Emma and David are the perfect hosts - welcoming, generous,helpful but never intrusive. Emma is a brilliant cook so it is well worth booking a meal in the farmhouse.

There is plenty to do in the area and if you are lucky enough to have good weather,as we did, the pool is a godsend.

We cannot thank Emma and David enough for their hospitality and we certainly hope to return.

Wonderful little flat, very homely

This was a lovely little getaway. The apartment was perfect, clean and really homely. Comfy beds, great shower and cute view from the windows in the lounge. The hosts Emma and David were a pleasure, and made sure we didn't go without anything. Overall, it was a lovely and relaxing stay and I would definitely recommend the property to friends and family!

10/10!! Beautiful hosts and Beautiful property!!

I absolutely loved my stay!! The property was modern, incredibly clean, spacious and had all the amenities you could want! The garden and pool area was just so delightful to be in, really beautiful! My friends and I rented bicycles and rode around the town of Vix, i can honeslty say it was stunning, i would definitely recommend!! The hosts Emma and David, were absolutely incredible, it really did feel like home away from home, they were so hospitable, welcoming and warm :)

Our first visit to the Vendee

A fabulous two weeks in a superb area with very comfortable accommodation. The property was as described and suited our needs adequately. The owners, Emma and David were perfect hosts, who provided us with more than we needed, especially daily access to their bicycles. We were made to feel more than welcome by them and the people in the village of Vix, we felt like natives as we left!!!! A restaurant in the village would be a bonus, however, Emma and David put on mean barbeque if asked!!!! I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative and already have !!!

Being our first visit to the Vendee we wanted a base from which we could explore the region, Vix fitted the bill perfectly. Thank you Emma and David
