Semi-rural, self-catering holiday property, close to the sea with lots to do.
About Suzanne Box
My husband and I have been married happily for almost 33 years. We have 4 children all still living at home, and with all their friends coming and going, eating and staying, it feels more like a guest house! But it is lots of fun. Our house was turned into a farm house in the 18th Century, but since moving here we started using part of it as self-catering holiday accommodation. The first part of the building we used was previously the servants quarters for a servant named Annie, who used to live here many years ago. Sadly no servant came with the house, so it's just me! Annie's Cottage proved to be quite popular, so we then decided to do the same with the cottage next to it called Well House. It used to be a well house and pump room, and was converted into living accommodation about 100 years ago, when the 200 foot well which is now in the kitchen was capped. That too became very popular, so in 2009 we decided to convert The Chapel which only had 2 bedrooms and no kitchen, into a 3 bedroom house, with all bedrooms having their own ensuite, and a kitchen on the first floor. The Chapel guests now, instead of being single people, couples or small families, are now large families, groups, and those celebrating special occasions, or wanting large family holidays. Some guests even hire all three properties and bring the whole family for a special occasion which has been lovely to see. We run the properties as a family which is great working from home. We really enjoy hosting new guests, and many return each year and have become friends. We take great satisfaction in making the properties as nice as we can, so that our guests get as much out of the experience of staying here as possible, and that is our main motivation. It's hard work but very rewarding, and we never get tired of seeing what else we can do, and of seeing our lovely guests enjoy the properties. It's a lovely place to live, and a pleasure to share.
Suzanne Box purchased this House in 2002
Why Suzanne Box chose Ramsgate
The Chapel is a beautiful building, in a great location. It is peaceful and secluded, and yet close to the coast. The large grounds allow you to have fun with the family in a relaxing atmosphere, and there is so much to do in the local area, whatever time of year, and whatever your age. And sometimes it's nice just to do nothing and relax, and The Chapel and this location is perfect for both.
What makes this House unique
The major benefit of The Chapel is the size of the lounge. Being 40 foot long it comfortably houses a full size American pool table and 4, three seater sofas, which means that a large family or group can all be in the same room at the same time, having fun or relaxing. And with the open plan kitchen on the first floor, the layout being focused toward entertaining, it is just perfect for hosting any occasion, whether Christmas, New Year or a family celebration. Plus, with having an ensuite in every bedroom and an extra toilet in the utility room, it makes sharing for large groups really easy.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
The perfect family space
Thoughtfully converted chapel, with plenty of room, and all amenities required, perfect for our happy family gathering over the beautiful Easter weekend.
Suzanne was a wonderful host, welcoming and generous, with her time and thoughtful extras. Nothing was too much trouble.
Thoroughly recommended for the larger party.
You really get a sense of the history of the place, with its thick flint walls and pretty windows. The huge living room, which takes up the entire ground floor, has a pool table and large wall-mounted TV with XBox games supplied. There's a piano for a family singalong, too.
Thank you so much Christine for that lovely review, I really am touched. You have a lovely family, and as I was working on the computer I could hear you all laughing and having fun in the garden, it really made me smile. Hearing you all having fun was really a pleasure, that makes what we do worth while. It would be great to see you all again.
Beautiful property in a peaceful location
Such an unusual cottage, nicely presented and spotlessly clean. The owner was so friendly and helpful too. A lovely place to stay with friends and family.
Thank you Lesley, that's such a lovely review. You were all a pleasure to host and I am so pleased you enjoyed staying in The Chapel. It would be lovely to see you all again, but until then have a great 2019.
Just got back from a couple of nights stay in the chapel. Wonderful house. Great parking. Owner very friendly.
House had plenty of space for 2 families. We all loved the pool table. Great central location for all surrounding areas.
Thank you Shirley for such a lovely review. I'm so pleased you liked staying in The Chapel, and that's great that you all enjoyed the pool table. It was lovely to meet you all, and I hope to see you again in the future.
Great stay at The Chapel, Manston Court!
Just returned from a wonderful week in The Chapel, made "wonderful" not only by being the perfect accommodation for our 3-generational family but also the superb hospitality of the owner, Suzanne Box - she does everything to make her guests feel welcome and to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It's also in a great location, being only a short drive to the many sandy beaches, shopping centre and places of interest in Thanet.
The accommodation, set over 3 floors, has a very spacious (40ft long!) sitting room on the ground floor. It has four large comfy sofas, a wall-mounted TV and a pool table (much appreciated on rainy days!), making it the perfect place to relax. The large kitchen diner, another great space in which to congregate, is well supplied with plenty of crockery, cutlery etc.
The three bedrooms - all en suite - have comfortable king-size beds and each room is so large that there's more than enough space to make them into family rooms (the owner has a supply of portable beds for this purpose).
So, all in all, The Chapel makes for a great stay - it's definitely one to return to and we'll be recommending it to our friends and extended families.
Thank you so much, I am really touched by your amazing review, and you have explained The Chapel perfectly - I will definitely take notes from your great description! You were a lovely family and very easy to host, and it's so nice when we hear that guests have enjoyed their stay with us which is our main motivation, and that's great that you also enjoyed the local area. Thank you so much for your recommendation and it would be lovely to see you all again.

Amazing venue, pictures do not do it justice
We are a group of 10 ladies and chose to stay in this beautiful chapel for a weekend away. The owner Suzanne could not be more helpful both prior to the visit and during. The Chapel is absolutely stunning and the pictures on line don't even begin to show you how amazing and spacious it is.
We would all truly recommend anyone to visit this stunning venue and would like to thank Suzanne for being the most accommodating host and letting us enjoy her wonderful property.
Thank you so much for that lovely review, and it's really good to know that you all enjoyed staying in The Chapel. It's a real pleasure to host guests like you and it would be lovely to see you all again.
The Chapel is within 4 miles of several sandy award winning beaches, some with facilities to jet sky, surf board and canoe.
Dreamland in Margate is only approximately 3 1/2 miles away, where they have loving restored historic fairground rides for everyone to enjoy. They also have a roller blading rink, and lots of attractions including well known bands frequently most weekends from the spring to the autumn.
Or if you want to try something unusual, 1/2 mile away is a helicopter pad where you can take a helicopter flying lesson. It will take you over the sea or the country side and is said to be great fun.
There are lots of free events locally each year, including Dickens Week in Broadstairs in July, where people dress up in Dickensian costumes, and do local tours and theatre, to show how life would have been 100 years ago.
Folk Week in August in Broadstairs, is full of family entertainment suitable for all ages. There are fun fair rides, stalls selling everything from aromatic scents to hand made items for the home and garden. There are two food fairs in Spring and Autumn also in Broadstairs showing off cooking techniques, where you can sample food from all over the world.
The Shell Grotto in Margate is definitely worth a visit. The historic tunnel consists of a winding subterranean passageway, roughly hewn out of the chalk, which winds down in serpentine fashion until it reaches an arch covered with shell mosaic.
This part of the Kent coast is perfect whatever the time of year, where there is lots to do for all ages, great for energetic holidays, sightseeing or just relaxing. You will be spoilt for choice.
