Family friendly home with I double bedroom, 1 twin, 1 single and 3 bathrooms

Highview, a large village house, is perfect for couples or a family group. Highview is one of two lovely old adjoining stone village houses (Property Nos. 8338096 & 8338102). The smaller house, Hobbit House, may be booked separately or together with Highview in which case a ten per cent discount applies. Together the houses are ideal for larger groups of family and friends.

The houses are situated in the heart of the small, friendly, southern town of Le Boulou with the art gallery in front and the beautiful river behind. Although central, they are situated in a quiet area of the old part with local bakeries, shops, bars, good restaurants and a summer swimming pool nearby. There is a street market in the town twice a week. Le Boulou is easily reached by motorway and less than an hour by bus or car from airports in Perpignan and Girona (Spain) or just over an hour from Beziers airport.

These two houses are joined together by the fabulous wooden decking/terrace area. The large house sleeps six or seven, the small house sleeps two and a baby and they have been recently renovated. They are comfortable, well-equipped & have everything you may need. The houses will be rented separately or together upon request.

Highview House has direct access to the beautiful private terrace/decking area, which is only open to Hobbit House (8338102) if the two are booked together. Highview is on three floors & sleeps six, or seven if required, with three modern bathrooms, one on each floor. It has a large living-room and kitchen and a conservatory leading on to the terrace. Sleeping is in one large double bedroom, one twin, one single plus a sofa-bed, a put-up bed & a cot. (NB. access to the top floor bedrooms is through the first floor room with fully curtained off bedroom area.) The bedrooms all have splendid views as does the terrace. There is free WiFi throughout the large house.

Beaches/swimming/walking/cycling: There is a good path from the back of the house down to the river and along it to the local swimming and fishing/water-boarding lakes near St Jean Pla de Corts. The lakes are a 30 minutes walk from the houses or can be reached in 5 minutes by car & have glorious views, a cafe/bar, adventure trails in the trees by the lakeside and pedalos/kayaking. Le Boulou has a good municipal summer swimming pool 5 minutes walk from the houses. There are excellent beaches such as Argeles & lively resorts within a short drive from Le Boulou. You can follow the Route des Vins and discover local vineyards and enjoy winetasting.

There are many historic sites nearby including the fabulous Cathar castles. Find out more at the excellent tourist office in Le Boulou.

There are numerous local walks suitable for all ages and fitness levels. There are guided walks on offer all year round. They are graded and run by local guides into the mountains, coastal areas and over the frontier into Spain; The grand route 10 passes very close to Le Boulou.

Skiing: Font Romeu is just two hours drive from Le Boulou via the road to Prades and Andorra to the pistes of the Cerdagne. There is plenty of scope for both experienced skiiers and beginners plus cross country skiing.

Golf: The nearest golf course is a nine hole course at Amelie Les Bains but experienced golfers might prefer the new course at St Cyprien on the coast or the wonderful course at Falgos, high in the mountains with a magnificent view of the Spanish coastline and a luxury hotel and spa.

Our careers were in education but now we are at the stage in our lives where we can look forward to more time in our house in Le Boulou, and also travelling further afield for big adventures.

Friends bought a house in Le Boulou in 2001, we stayed with them over the years and fell in love with the beauty of the area, the historic and artistic connections, the variety of activities and, of course, the delicious food and locally produced wines. Then in 2012 we couldn't resist the chance to buy a wonderfully located property up for sale. Right time, right place, right house! We hope you will love the house and its brilliant location as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

We love the mountain views from our windows and the fact that it is very quiet and hidden at the back of the old town of Le Boulou near the river. The decked terrace feels very private and to be able to walk so easily from the living room onto the terrace with its wonderful view and light is a treat. Having both the large house and small house both leading off the terrace but with separate, spacious accommodation and plenty of bathrooms makes for very flexible arrangements - perfect for groups of friends or family. The house is strategically excellent with nearby airports and good roads for visiting the area including mountains, a lovely coastline and also nearby Spain. Who could resist?

There is a conservatory with patio doors between the living room and the terrace. In this room is a big plastic table and four plastic chairs for outdoors. The conservatory also stores a folding wooden sunlounger and some folding wooden chairs.

Highview - Typical French village house in quiet non touristy village

We had a wonderful three week stay in Highview.The house was as described,a typical French village house.A short stroll to all facilities with the twice weekly market a couple of hundred yards from the door. The village is not touristy which was what we wanted,it gives you the chance to meet the locals and after the first couple of days we were being greeted in the streets by the various business owners.While not touristy you are still within a short distance of many tourist spots.The wonderful beaches at Canet,St Cyprian and Argeles all within 20/30 min drive.The beautiful town of Collioure also within half an hour and it must be one of the most beautiful locations for a swim.We made a couple of trips to Perpignan,taking the bus from the village at only €1 each way.Ceret is well worth a visit and is only a few mins away by car while if you want to venture a little further L'Escala on the Spanish coast is less than an hour while we also visited Barcelona which is a two hour drive. If you happen to be travelling in your own car the wine shop Grau about half an hour north of Barcelona is well worth a visit,keep plenty of room to stock up. In Le Boulou the swimming area in the lake was a lovely spot to cool down while a nice walk from the house starting out at the river brings you to a nice park where the zip lines are located,a restaurant on the lake side open until end of September was very nice for lunch.

Wonderful relaxing retreat

We thoroughly enjoyed or stay in Highview. This house is ideally situated in a quiet area yet just a very short stroll to the hustle and bustle of the village with its shops and vibrant markets.

We found the house clean and very well equipped with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay.

Highview house has a lovely private veranda with wonderful mountain views and is also ideal for gazing at the stars on an evening.

The house is a short walk on the side of the river to a lovely swimming lake and only a short drive to seaside towns and fishing villages.

We would highly recommend Highview house in Le Boulou to our friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you. We too love to stargaze from the terrace at night or watch the moon rise over the mountains. One night last May we saw three planets at once all looking particularly bright. Our binoculars are always close to hand especially as there are plenty of birds to watch too, such as the swifts which enjoy swooping over the valley in the evening.

Great Location, very well equipped.

A perfect location for easy access to the sea, river and mountains. Highview is very well equipped indeed and comfortable. An extra "closed" double bedroom would be a good addition and perhaps a hard roof on the veranda - when it's 40°c outside the veranda was rather too hot to enjoy !

Owner's Response: The location and the comfort of the house are consistently appreciated by our guests. Thank you for your suggestions which we will certainly consider for the future. We are thinking of creating a shady trellised area to complement the shade from the fig tree although when the temperatures soar perhaps a dip in the nearby swimming lake is the best bet!

An excellent house in the Old Town of Le Boulou

Second visit for me / father / sister in June last year and this year for 10 days. Great location in the Old Town so only a few hundred metres from restaurants, bars and shops. The house itself is lovely. Great views from the bedroom windows and terrace over the valley. Very comfortable lounge, great kitchen though hardly used, with everything provided throughout the house, but we most enjoyed evening meals out on the terrace with a bottle of wine after the sun had gone behind the other houses. Hopefully will be back next year.

Comfort staying and nice feelings

We already had positive experience of holiday renting in very nice places. There are a few considerations which are important when we chose the place for vacancies with children. The place should be close to nature, comfortable, quite, has the necessary equipments. Sounds simple, but it's challenging when you would think what does it mean comfortable staying "close to nature" of the family with two children. The High view house over-performed our expectations. The owners know what could need travellers. They do care not only about well-maintaining the property, or availability of the services. They guarantee that you know how to enjoy your staying. I could recommend this place to my best friends.

Central location, comfortable and welcoming

A lovely, spacious house with all the comforts you could hope for. Centrally located with easy access to the sea and the mountains. The little town has plenty of bakeries and restaurants to mean you don't need to travel far, even a couple of markets a week.. It is also on the river Tech which provides walks and paddling. Thank you for a lovely 10 days or so.

This area is a perfect for both active and more relaxed holidays. Why not sunbathe on golden sands on the Mediterranean coast; visit a local vineyard; try a local restaurant or take a picnic to the nearby swimming lake; explore this walker’s paradise? There are plenty of walks for all, whether you would like a short stroll or a day's hike. Or why not take the opportunity for some gentle learning, carry out some creative writing and de-stress with a reflective writing course, see for more information. There is plenty of inspiration: the views and colours are wonderful all year and the Canigou Mountain and the Alberes Mountains dominate the horizon. The town itself is small with lovely restaurants and bars and a lively street market in the town centre on a Thursday and Sunday. There are numerous fiestas all year, especially the famous water festival celebrating the hot springs - the town's claim to fame. Art lovers will enjoy the close-by town of Ceret with its famous Modern Art Museum and Collioure, the haunt of Matisse. Figueres in Spain, only 35 kms, has the famous Salvador Dali museum. The wonderful coastline including Port Vendres, with its excellent fish restaurants, is only twenty minutes drive by car, as are numerous sandy beaches. The Costa Brava, beautiful Girona and Barcelona are all within easy reach on the motorway south from Le Boulou. The stunning Cathar castles, Carcassonne, Montpellier, Narbonne and Perpignan are easily reached to the north. Le Boulou is very close to the famous GR 10 footpath which crosses the Pyrenees from east to west. Information on all activities and events can be obtained from the helpful Tourist Information Office in town.

Pets are not allowed in the house unless there are special circumstances. If necessary, please enquire. If a pet is exceptionally allowed there will be an extra charge.

It is preferred if changeover day is not a Saturday, please.

Return of the deposit is dependent on the house being left as you found it - tidy, swept with all rubbish removed and the washing-up done, please. We reserve the right to keep some or all or the deposit if extra cleaning is required after your stay.

If Highview (Property number 8338096) and Hobbit House (Property number 8338102) are booked at the same time for the same rental period there will be a 10% reduction on the total rental amount for the period booked.

Owner's Cancellation Policy
