Historic Rosegill is a spacious, beautifully furnished yet comfortable home. Our extended family enjoyed ourselves immensely. The views from the house are amazing. Roseville is set back from the river and the wide lawn with beautiful oak trees was perfect for the children to run and play. The kitchen is well stocked. Martha, the caretaker, was communicative and welcoming. It was nice to meet the owners as well and hear about the history of the house. We rented a boat from Norton Yacht Rentals (highly recommend) and it was delivered to the Rosegill boat dock. We took long walks on the property, kayaked, cooked and went out to several nearby restaurants, shopped in Urbanna, and rode the boat to the Tides Inn for lunch. We particularly enjoyed cocktails on the lawn at sunset and watching 2 bald eagles with a pair of binoculars that were on the sun porch. Of course there is a pool too! We had a relaxing vacation and look forward to returning to lovely Rosegill.
Thank you for your kind review! We are so glad you and your family spent your vacation at Rosegill and enjoyed all the things we love about it.
Stunning and Magical
It is hard to adequately describe the beauty and wonder of Rosegill farm. The house itself is a gorgeous step back in time, with all of the modern comforts. We approached down the long driveway across the soy bean fields surprising fox and deer. The well-stocked and well laid out kitchen made it easy to prepare family dinners and share them in one of the two dining rooms. The den was super cozy for the family movies or games. My favorite area was upstairs where all of the bedrooms were located in a long row and the area outside of the bedrooms easily became a meeting spot for conversation and cards.
You may never find a home with grounds as beautiful and unique as Rosegill farm. The pool was so convenient out the back door, clean and a perfect temperature. The view to the river from the back of the house, including sunrises, was spectacular. It was a very short walk to the dock where we fished and launched the boats to paddle around the marina. Walking the other direction took us to the beautiful sandy beach of the river and the freshwater lake, just a few steps away.
The towns of Saluda and Urbanna were darling and welcoming. The owner was easy and wonderful to work with and one of the greatest treasures of the house was the caretaker Martha who answered all of our questions before and during our trip with kindness, patience, and knowledge. We so highly recommend this once-in-a-lifetime property.
Thank you for such a lovely review. We are so glad your visit was a success and that you were able to make the most of Martha's great recommendations and hospitality. We agree she is a treasure indeed. We are thrilled to share Rosegill with guests like you and your family who so fully appreciate it's charms.
Our family of 11 had an awesome vacation at Rosegill. From the private beach, the fishing, the private pool to the ability to use the canoe and kayaks. Our guys could fish and crab (which we cooked and ate) to their hearts delight. We rented a golf cart and road all around the property, which the children loved. The feel of being at the beach and out in the country was exactly what we were looking for, as well as a house large enough to accommodate our large family without feeling cramped!
The little town of Urbanna was also a nice place to eat and play some miniature golf (and eat ice cream).
The family and Martha (our rental host) were so pleasant and easy to work with. The ability to spend some time with one of the owners on one of our days, was a treat!!! (Thanks Alfred) Everyone made us feel so welcome and like "part of the family". Rosegill is now top on our list of vacation destinations...we will definitely return!!
Thank you to the Scott Family!!!!!
We are so glad to hear your stay at Rosegill was such a success and look forward to welcoming you back! Thank you for your kind review and for taking such good care of the house.
Rosegill is fantastic. We loved our stay at this beautiful, historic plantation. There were 10 of us including 2 children and the house was ideal. We enjoyed the pool and the beach, rode bikes into town, and lounged in the sunroom. There are not many places that could accommodate all of us comfortably but Rosegill had room to spare!
It was a pleasure hosting you and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your lovely review.
Beautiful estate with so much to do!
Loved our vacation here! We stayed here in August 2018, there were 2 families with 6 kids ranging in age from 1-7. The house is beautifully updated with a nice well equipped kitchen where we cooked most of our meals. There was a lot of space for us to spread out and we found a number of games and toys for the kids to play with. The pool and grounds around the house were perfect for running around and playing outside. We took the kayaks to the lake and also fished and caught crabs at the dock. Martha, the local contact, was a wealth of knowledge for restaurants and places to check out in the area! We loved Merrior and Something Different. If you are traveling with kids the mini golf at Cowtopia is a must visit! We will definitely come back here and I can not recommend it highly enough!!! There is so much to do on the property and it was a great place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.
It sounds like you made the absolute most of your stay, which we love to hear. We do hope you'll consider another visit. Thank you for your kind review.
Timeless and unique property enhanced by modern upgrades.
Our family will always remember our time at Rosegill. The online pictures do not do the property justice. The house is beautiful and timeless. The air-conditioning did a great job providing an escape from the heat and humidity outside. The kitchen is spectacular and was a dream to use. Our family very much appreciated how child-friendly the house was--from dress up clothes, to games, to bicycles, to a doll house that delighted six children of different ages. They also loved swimming in the pool, fishing in the creek, biking to the lakes, and wading in the river. I think we spent most of our indoor time in the sun room using the binoculars to watch the ospreys and eagles. Your caretaker Martha did a wonderful job facilitating our stay. We would love to return someday. When we initially planned the trip, we thought we would include some day trips to other eastern Virginia sites. Almost immediately, we realized those places weren't going anywhere and we had no intention of leaving Rosegill before we had to. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
It is great to hear about our guests having fun doing all the things we love to do at Rosegill. We also sometimes find it hard to leave despite all the great things to do in the area. Thank you for your lovely review.
