Beautiful Maison de Maitre, in the centre of Lectoure, Gers, short walking distance to all ammenities, including numerous street cafes and restaurants, boulangeries, pharmacies, boucheries, thermal spa, shops and the beautiful open air swimming pool at the top of the high street, near the Catherdral, which is open during the summer months. The house, originally built in 1720, has been tastefully renovated to a very high standard, retaining many of the original features, including the beautiful tall fireplaces and flooring, but offering the height of luxury with all mod cons. The rooms are light, airy and spacious, providing a touch of class and elegance after a day walking around the beautiful countryside surrounding Lectoure, or meandering around the many shops and cafes, and the old Hospital, a short walk away, which has now been turned into an antiques market, which is open every day. The bespoke kitchen has recently been fitted with range cooker with double oven, dishwasher, microwave, Nesspresso coffee machine, toaster, kettle, integrated fridge and freezer beneath a large breakfast bar, and has ample space to entertain, including two beautiful window seats which overlook the street market held every Friday morning. Go through the original 2.5m tall double doors to a lovely hall, opposite which can be found the huge lounge, tastefully decorated, offering a relaxing retreat after a day's hiking. Enter the lounge through the original 2.5m double doors to find an elegantly furnished room which provides comfortable seating, flat screen television and a selection of DVDs. Free wifi available. Walk upstairs to a large landing to find three light and airy, beautifully decorated bedrooms with comfortable beds and fans available for those warm summer nights. Also on this floor is the fantastic, very large main bathroom, which must be seen to be believed. It has a large double shower, beautiful old English, high level Victorian toilet, bidet, and sink. To rest your tired muscles, why not relax in the beautiful roll top bath with a glass or two of wine. For the more chilly evenings, underfloor heating has been installed in the bathroom, together with quick and efficient electric heating in all rooms. The master bedroom on the top floor has it's own stunning en-suite bathroom, with Victorian style double shower, toilet, large sink, and another beautifully placed roll top bath beneath a window, for a cool breeze and amazing view of the stars! There is also a games room with pool table in another large reception room on the ground floor, complete with original wood panelling and fireplace, a separate toilet with sink on the same floor, and a large utility room/summer kitchen/studio, complete with washing machine and large area to dry your bathing suits and towels after a visit to the open air pool or the nearby pleasure lake. This light and airy room leads out to a small outside space, through which you can access the courtyard garden (4m by 4m approx,) for a bit of al fresco dining. If you want a remote quiet house without neighbours or ammenities nearby but with a large garden, then our beautiful house is not for you, but if you want to sample the French way of life in a lovely, friendly busy little town, with lots of things to do and within a short walk away, then please feel free to contact the website for futher information and an amazing holiday in one of the most beautiful areas in France!

Why Garry & Stephanie Holmes chose Lectoure
Having spent more than five years looking at properties and areas in France to buy in, starting off in Normandy, nudging further down to the Creuse, Limosin area and further south still, insearch of the warmer weather, we found this beautiful old house by accident, after a previous purchase in the same town fell through. We fell in love with Lectoure, a truly stunning and picturesque town with beautiful architecture, the friendly people and the beautiful countryside, discovering that no matter what time of the year we came, the little town was always busy, full of life, and offering year round cafes and restaurants, unlike many other French towns and villages, which are often very quiet with all the shutters closed, and no-one around. We love the fact that we can jump out of bed and walk a short distance to buy coissants and bread before the kettle has boiled or the coffee is brewed! With the many lovely and reasonably priced restaurants just a few minutes walk away, it's lovely that we can both enjoy a glass of wine with our meal and not have to drive home. The renovation has been a labour of love, being derelict and unlived in for 40-50 years! No roof meant that most of the ceilings and floors had fallen through, and on the odd occassion it rained in the Gers, we would be running around placing buckets everywhere using umbrellas to avoid getting wet. We had no electricity or water, and our toilet was the public "loo" half way up the high street. We have loved breathing life back into the beautiful old house, so much so, that we have bought next door!
What makes this House unique
Completely modernised to an exceptionally high standard, maintaining many of the original features but also very comfortable. Unique location, no car necessary, everything one needs is a short walk away in one of the many local shops, or if you prefer, the large supermarket is just outside the town about 2 kms away. We have decent bycycles for those who would prefer to cycle to explore the stunning scenery, and there are an array of vineyards to visit to stock up on wine before your journey home. It is a walker's paradise, for those wishing to stretch their legs and earn their lunch and dinner, or there are some lovely roads to wander around and get a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. From the ramparts of the old Hospital - another lovely stroll - one can see the Pyrenees on a clear day. And for those wanting to get away from it all, Here is a safe haven to hide away in, where you can turn the TV off, read a book, relax, soak up the French way of life and forget all the stresses of life.
