About the property

Unusually spacious romantic one bedroom courtyard apartment

We are delighted to announce that Ca' Masena, our beautiful restored courtyard apartment has been selected for Alastair Sawday's Special Places website. They 'reject the bland, the corporate and the impersonal' & 'select only the most special places and owners'. We have also been mentioned in an article on Venice by Guardian newspaper. You’ll find it literally moments from Zattere with its stunning views across the water to Giudecca Island. The furnishings enhance the apartment’s character combinig classical style with contemporary comfort. Exposed beams & subtle terrazzo flooring give a traditional Venetian finish while the Italian chandeliers, original oil paintings and textiles add more than a hint of luxury. The apartment's spacious lounge has sofa beds & comfortable seats. There is a home cinema system with ipod dock & WiFi access is available throughout. The double bedroom looks out onto the delightful paved courtyard which can be reached through a well-appointed kitchen. Enjoy your breakfast in the sun while planning another wonderful day in Venice.

Ca'Masena: Our apartment is ideal as a romantic retreat for couples or small families. Both the living and dining area seats up to six people, so enjoy dinner parties with friends. For times of relaxation play music from our selection of CDs. There is a home cinema system with an internet linked TV, a Blue Ray/DVD player, 5.1 surround sound & ipod dock. WiFi access is available throughout. Watch films from our selection of DVDs or television...that is if you can tear yourself away from the delights of the city! We have aimed to create a luxurious setting in which to enjoy your stay. There are two comfortable sofa beds in the sitting room. One is a double bed while the other is a single bed. You will find many extra items for your use, which include worldwide electrical adaptors; umbrellas; guidebooks. There is a selection of literature, cook books and CDs for your enjoyment. Our pretty courtyard is filled with terracotta pots where we have jasmine, oleanders and even a lemon tree growing! Included in your stay are towels and bed linen and all utilities as well as unlimited internet use.

Shopping: We are just around the corner from one of the few Venetian supermarkets, 2 minutes walk away. Buying food couldn't be easier. Or be more adventurous and go to the famous floating barge crammed with fruit and vegetables just off San Barnaba. There is the daily food market in nearby Campo Santa Margherita and various other small food outlets scattered around where you can buy meats, cheese etc. This will be a more interesting although challenging shopping experience than the supermarket! You will find many antique and gift shops in Dorsoduro, notably around San Barnaba and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum/Salute area.

Location: You could not be in a better location as we are situated in one of the most desirable parts of Venice by the Zattere promenade where you can take your strolls along with the Venetians. The water bus stops 'San Basilio' and 'Zattere' are only a few minutes away, from which you can start your journeys for outings further afield, including perhaps a day trip to the outer islands. This area is the centre of the Arts in Venice and is richly populated with Museums, Galleries, Churches and Historic buildings.

We are sure that our Venetian retreat will provide you with a truly pleasurable experience.

Wonderfully situated apartment in Venice.

  • 5 of 5

Ca' Masena is perfectly situated for exploring Venice. It is about two minutes walk away from the San Basilio water bus stop in Dorsoduro and very easy to find. There are a quite a few restaurants, shops and a supermarket close by which is convenient. The apartment itself is ground floor with one big double bedroom, and with a double and a single sofa bed in the sitting room. There is a bathroom with shower, kitchen and a lovely courtyard garden. The apartment has many amenities, washing machine, dishwasher, very good DVD system. It is also well stocked with DVDs and travel books. It is very nicely decorated with lovely oil paintings of Venice on the walls. We were there in the February half term with our two children aged 13 and 11 and it was perfect for us. The apartment location was great because we could walk to the heart of the busy tourist area easily within minutes but it also offered us a quieter refuge away from the crowds. The English host is fantastically helpful and knowledgeable about the area. She recommended a wonderful guide for us, Rita Satori, who took us on a fascinating tour of the lesser known spots of Venice. There is also a contact who meets you at the water bus stop and lets you in to the property. It would thoroughly recommend this apartment.

Fabulous apartment

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful apartment for a week in August. The apartment is in a very convenient location just a minute or two walk from San Basilio Vaporetto water bus stop. We were met by Enrica and got into the apartment earlier than the 2 pm stated entry time. The apartment itself is down a quiet alley way. The apartment was very clean and well maintained and had everything you could ask for to make an enjoyable stay

The lounge was comfortable and nicely furnished. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed. We cooked a couple of meals and ate them in the lovely courtyard (one very small gripe, it would be handy to have kitchen steps as the cupboards were too high for me and I had to ask my husband to get things down for me)

The bedroom is very roomy with a very comfortable bed. I loved getting up in the morning, opening the curtains and looking out at our own private courtyard

The courtyard is lovely and was a lot bigger than I expected it to be. We loved sitting out there amongst the lovely plants

There are plenty of cafe's and restaurants around San Basillio and the Zattere but we like eating and people watching around San Barnaba

Suzette was great to deal with and booking the apartment was simple. Suzette answered all enquiries promptly

We would stay in this apartment again (and again) when visiting Venice. We would recommend this apartment to family and friends

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

My first time in Venice and it was just wonderful, especially the days spent in Dorsoduro.

Best times were spent minutes from the apartment, enjoying drinks at the kiosk bar on the Zattere, ice cream at Nicos and taking in the amazing Guggenheim and Academia collections. My children found Venice magical and said it was so much better than their normal beach holidays!!!

The apartment was a place for them to relax after a busy day, spacious, with excellent air conditioning, good shower and clean bathroom facilities, we only used the kitchen for breakfast (cereal bought at supermarket minutes away) and coffee. The local restaurants and sights were too good to stay in!! To be honest the location was so good that we didn't spend much time in the apartment. The living room was a little dark but this we found relaxing. The area felt very safe. The big bonus for me was that the children loved every minute of it!!

Definitely arrange a water taxi when arriving to take you to San Basilio water stop, minutes from the apartment. Make sure you ask for the scenic route, a truly unforgettable sight of Venice, leaving the city was disappointing as I wanted one last look at a city that is now top of my list. Living in Dorsoduo made such a difference, I think if we had booked in San Marco our holiday would have been very different. We can't wait to return one day. Suzette (the owner) was so helpful that I felt I could contact her at any time.

Perfect Stay in a wonderful city!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Ca'masena for 4 nights ( family of four) and found it was everything we needed. The accommodation is charming and very well looked after. The extras - air con / surround sound / great wi fi were a big plus - especially for our teenage daughter who didn't feel cut off from her social circle whilst away with us! The courtyard garden was a little sun trap and we loved having our breakfast in the garden every day.

The location is ideal - right next to a water stop / well stocked supermarket and lots of restaurants to choose from.

After a day in the city returning to Ca'masena was the perfect end.

We definitely would love to return to Venice and Ca'mesena again.

Peaceful retreat a few steps from everything

  • 5 of 5

After a twelve minute picturesque stroll from Piazzale Roma we arrived at the western end of Zattere 'promenade'. We were greeted by Enrica who took us to the apartment and showed us around - a pretty and comfortable retreat. . At first it seemed a little dark but we would be grateful for the peace and quiet after a day of vaporetto travel and sightseeing in the sun.

The wee courtyard was lovely and we enjoyed a refreshing coffee or wine there on a number of occasions. The kitchen was more than sufficient for our needs - compact and well stocked. The bedroom was very comfortable and peaceful.

Great location! We cooked a couple of times and the supermarket at the end of the Calle was a couple of minutes walk away. It's really within easy reach of restaurants, vaporetto stops and galleries. We walked most of the time and the Zattere is a lovely place for an evening stroll, right at the end of the lane. We loved it and will hopefully return one day soon!

Ca'Masena is situated in Dorsoduro one of the most desirable areas in Venice just off the magnificent Zattere waterfront and only a couple of minutes walk away from the San Basilio & Zattere Vaporetti. We are a 2 minute walk away from the supermarket. It is also within easy reach of other transport links such as Piazzale Roma and Ferrovia.

Stroll along the Zattere with its amazing views across to Giudecca Island and Palladio's wonderful Redentore church. Keep going and you will reach La Salute which marks the point where the Grand Canal meets the Bacino di San Marco, from which you can see the whole expanse of the lagoon. You will not forget such a moment in a hurry! Also local to us is the Guggenheim and Punta della Dogana Art Museums both near the Accademia Bridge. Not far away is Campo Barnaba, with its famous floating vegetable ‘shop’, and a bit further on is Campo Santa Margherita one of the liveliest squares in Venice with cafes, restaurants and a daily food market. Dorsoduro, the heart of the Arts for Venice indeed has it all!
