Flying High is a gorgeous luxury vacation home located in The Plantation on St. George Island on a 1.24 acre lot with sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico. Take the 200-step walk to the beach down a direct maintained walkway without crossing any roads, and step out onto a very wide quiet beach.

Flying High has four Master Bedrooms plus a private Den which can be used as a second living area for the kids or as a fifth bedroom using the sleeper sofa. Past visitors consistently remark that the Owners have 'thought of everything - remembered every little detail.'

You will believe it when you see the amazingly stocked kitchen, find the separate stereo/CD system for the pool including the in-ground poolside speakers, and even the dimmers throughout the house to give it just the right ambiance in the evenings. And if you can't leave the office behind, there is free high-speed internet access (wired or wireless) and a desk with a gulf view.

The top floor of the house includes the open living/dining/kitchen area all under a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling, a screened porch surrounded by views, covered and open decks and a half bath. The primary King master suite with his and her closets and master bath with large jacuzzi tub, separate shower and separate water closet are on this top floor as well.

The gourmet kitchen features custom cherry cabinets, Silestone countertops and stainless appliances including double ovens for the serious cooks. The huge island contains the gas cooktop and a raised breakfast bar with barstools for those who like to keep the cooks company. The oversized walk-in pantry is to the side of the kitchen keeping the snack-searching traffic out of the chefs' way!

You are sure to remember the decks at Flying High. Comprising over 1000 square feet of covered and sun decks, you will have plenty of room for large groups as well as quiet areas for a little downtime. Visitor favorite - ENJOYING THE HAMMOCK on the covered deck!

Back inside on the middle level, you will find another 3 over-sized bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen, 1 4T) each with flat-screen TV and en-suite bathrooms including one with a large double shower. All have custom cherry cabinetry and custom tile. There is also a den which may be used as a 5th bedroom using the sleeper sofa or the provided queen air mattress. The bath from the 4-twin (2 bunk) room has hallway access as well and may be used by those staying in the den. The walk-in laundry room with wall-mounted ironing board is also on this level.

The oversized 15x32-foot pool with waterfall will be a hit with kids and adults alike. The pool is surrounded with palm trees and natural vegetation, and is entirely private, no neighbors in sight. Connect your phone or device by Bluetooth to the poolside speaker system. You will also find a pool-level wet bar with mini-fridge for the poolside and beverages. The pool can be heated during cooler months for $350/week.

Speaking of kids...Flying High is equipped with a pack and play and a high chair. The den is a great second, separate living area complete with a video library with children's movies and a DVD player.

The St. George Island Plantation is a private gated community including three tennis courts, a community pool and clubhouse, a bike path, a private air strip and incredible fishing at 'The Cut'. Flying High is located on a quiet street 1 mile into the Plantation.

About The Owner

We are a family of 4 from Atlanta, GA. We rented on St. George for many years and saved and saved and finally bought our lot in The Plantation in Spring 2001. We spent the next year or so working with an architect and custom designed the house from the ground up. Our architect was the Chair of the Plantation Architecture Committee at the time, so he was able to get us the best placement on the lot with the best views. Then we selected a fantastic builder and got to work! We visited regularly during construction, made a lot of tweaks and picked out every last thing in the house. We feel we ended up with such a great home. We know you'll love it too! The house was completed 8 weeks after our first child was born, and we spent his 9th and 10th week moving furniture into the house and getting it ready for the rental market. Our second child was born 16 months later, and those boys, now 9 and 10, absolutely beg to go to 'the beach house' all the time. Why The Owner chose Florida

St. George Island is an amazing 'uncommon' destination. It is quiet - free of high rises, chain restaurants or any long lines. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and you can walk a mile or two on the beach and often not see another person. The island is 5.5 hours from Atlanta where we live, and your blood pressure is sure to drop 20 points as you cross over the 4 mile bridge from the mainland to the island. And The Plantation is amazing and completely different than the main part of the island. It is more vegetated, the homes have much more privacy, and the beaches are wider and not crowded at all.

What makes this house unique

So much room and privacy - the lot itself is 1.24 acres. We usually go to the beach in the morning - play in the waves, build sandcastles, fly kites, take long walks. Then we head back to the house, hose off the kids and have lunch by the pool. Then its an afternoon of poolside fun with the waterfall, the in-ground sound system, and the pool-level mini bar chock full of tasty refreshments. We spend evenings cooking great healthy dinners full of fresh seafood caught that day or heading out to one of our many favorite local restaurants. We love to go down to 'The Cut' at sunset and watch for dolphins swimming through the channel, and have taken many holiday card pictures while we're there! Our kids are old enough now that we can all ride our bikes into downtown St. George (3.5 miles one way) - pickup something at the market, stop at the playground by the lighthouse, or head the other way and ride down to 'The Cut'. We almost always have additional family or friends with us, but we also love the times when it is just the 4 of us as well.

Starting to show age

My family stayed at Flying High in June 2015 for the 3rd time. We have been coming to St. George annually since 2007. Flying High offers a great location and amenities, however it is beginning to show its age. The patio furniture on the 3rd floor deck is broken and needs replaced. The pool furniture is broken and needs replaced. Two of the pool chairs are unusable as is the table. The previous guest had a white dog and there was dog hair everywhere. We used St. George Island Resort Vacation Properties for our rental. Our original contract in the Fall of 2014 said check in time was 4:00pm. Our final contract in May of 2015 stated 6pm. We elected to "upgrade" and pay more money to check in at 2:00pm. We love St. George Island, however we are starting to become concerned with the lack of updates to the properties. Many of these properties have been built in the late 90's and early 2000's and they are all starting to show their age. For the prices charged it would be nice to see some updates and improvements.

Owner's Response: Thank you Caridea for your review. I'm sorry you encountered problems during your stay - we try so hard to keep the house updated and good as new for every guest. Unfortunately, some of our outdoor furniture was abused last summer, and it has all been replaced. We've upgraded to heavy duty polywood furniture which should hold up MUCH better against the salt-air elements! We've recently done many other upgrades inside and out, new HVACs, new living room furniture, new exterior paint, new dishes and silverware and the list goes on. As for the cleaning and check-out times, PLEASE be sure to give this feedback to Resort Vacation Properties. I have done the same. Thanks once again for staying at Flying High, I hope you'll return again and check out the work we've done thanks to your review!

What a great place to stay

We just returned from our trip to St George and Flying High. Everything was perfect! Your description says the kitchen is well stocked; that does not do it justice. The house was just the right size giving amble room to spread out. We cooked, enjoyed the views, the pool and beach. None of our group wanted to leave. All of the outdoor living areas are fabulous. It was a perfect week and we thank you! We hope to return again next fall.

Great Place!

My husband and I rented this property for our wedding! We got to have the reception at the house which was amazing because our wedding was on the beach. While the house was great, we had a few issues. Upon arrival, our keyless entry code wasn't working so we had to wait for maintenance to come out to give us a new one. The garbage hadn't been picked up and was completely full. We stayed for a week and the trash was supposed to come by twice a week, they only came by after we called.

These are minor issues, really. We had an amazing time. We were super sad to read in the house book that there was a telescope only to not see it anywhere in the house :(. We would stay here again, and would recommend this property to others as well!

We enjoyed Flying High

Our extended family spent the Thanksgiving holiday Flying HIgh. The house was spacious, comfortable and close to the beach. The pool was a great hit! The kitchen was well equipped including a large dining table for Thanksgiving dinner. The natural beauty of the area was appreciated by everyone- we caught fish, saw dolphins,saw beautiful sunsets and even saw a big black bear! It was a great place to spend time with family.

Thoroughly enjoyed the house with another family for over a week. The bedrooms are arranged perfectly to handle a crowd and keeping comfortable. Beds were very comfortable and the view of the ocean great from the top floor. We really enjoyed the kitchen open to the dining and family room. This allowed for everyone to be together. Kitchen was well stocked with pots and serving dishes, and we used the double oven for preparing meals. Liked how the interior was not totally "beach theme" where we could see returning to enjoy time in the fall or winter and use the fireplace. A little walk to the beach but reasonable.

Gorgeous home + excellent location = perfect vacation property!

We stayed at Flying High in June of 2011 along with our children, another family with 1 child and a couple. The house was beyond perfect for our needs for several reasons:

1) It is large. All 4 bedrooms can accommodate a couple or small family. Yet despite the relatively large number of people we had there, it felt very roomy.. never crowded.

2) Location. The location is awesome. Only a short walk to the beach and a short drive/ride to the market and other central island necessities.

3) Awesome pool. The pool is surrounded by lush mature vegetation which gives it a tropical feel in addition to privacy. The waterfall feature was a huge hit with our kids and the fact that it was not too deep was terrific from a safety perspective. The sound system, close by bar/refrigerator and night time lights were icing on the cake.

4) Well appointed. The owners have thought of everything. The kitchen truly had everything we needed and the new washer/dryer were put to good use.

All in all, a perfect house for a family vacation and we will definitely return.
