This is a brand-new two-bedroom, two-bathroom flat with plenty of living space to stretch your legs. The bedrooms are roomy, each with a queen-size/double bed. The master has an en suite bathroom, and the second bathroom is large and offers a second shower. The living room/dining room is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen has clean lines and new appliances. The owner met us when we arrived and couldn't have been more friendly.
The apartment is virtually at the train station. On days when we took the train up to London or elsewhere, we simply walked down the sidewalk to the station. (I suspect that many who rent or own apartments in this building are London commuters taking advantage of this location.) The car-rental office that we used was also in this same complex, beside a number of coffee shops.
From this location, we could easily walk (10 minutes) to the Univ of Surrey. And we could walk into the heart of Guildford in a few minutes. High Street is pedestrian-only for most of each day, allowing for a relaxing stroll on cobblestone up the hill. All the streets and alleys are lined with interesting shops, pubs, and restaurants. We also took advantage of the farmers' market and the street vendor who sold fresh bread and baked goods each day. All the pubs are wonderful -- friendly, comfortable, historic, and quirky (in the best possible sense). As for the more mundane, we shopped for groceries at the Sainsbury's on High Street, but you can pick up wine and groceries in other spots, too.
Guildford's highlight is the ancient castle on the hill in the heart of town -- and the surrounding gardens and bowling green. We visited in April and got some good weather, and the flowers started to pop open before our eyes. Be sure to find the Alice Garden tucked away in a corner, with the sculpture of Alice peering through the looking glass toward the castle ruins. (Author Lewis Carroll had a family home nearby.)
The flat's geographical location is quite convenient for wider exploration. With a rental car, we took a series of day trips -- to Highclere Caste (of Downton Abbey fame); to the White Cliffs of Dover/Dover Castle/Canterbury; and to Beachy Head/Brighton. And the train gave us easy access to London (and beyond).
