The gîte is located in the heart of the village with the terrace overlooking with the village square to the rear and the door opening onto the colossal 12th century church at the front. The church is steeped in history as it was the birth place of the Cluny monastic movement in France in the 10th century and is a historically classed monument.

Comfortable accommodation for families with several children that comprises of 3 levels with about 33m² on each floor:

Ground floor : toilet, kitchen opening onto the living area, terrace bordered with plants of around 45m² that overlooks the village square (which features a restored fountain).

1st floor : 1 bedroom with a double bed, 2nd bedroom with 2 bunk beds and another single bed, bathroom with shower, toilet and washing machine.

2nd floor : the attic has been converted with 2 single beds, 1 'boat' bed and one cot.

Parking is on street in front of the cottage (ample parking available)

Please note that this property is our secondary home and therefore fully furnished and equiped with our own personal belongings for when we visit the place several times during the year.

Cupboards and wardrobes are busy with our own things but we make sure there is always plenty of room for you to use.

If you are looking for a modern, spotless and luxurious place, this is not the right house you want but it is clean, very functional, and pleasant to live in.

Spacious house in charming little village

  • 4 of 5

We spend nearly a week in this nice, with love renovated town house that was once part of an old abbey. The church is right on the opposite of the entrance door and the market place is just under the terrace on the other side. Everything is exact like in the upper description. Everything was clean and neat. We just felt at home when we entered the door. We had Pizza on Saturday evening, bought our bread and things in the local supermarket and took a lot of walks around the village with our little dog.

The only little disadvantage was, that one of the rooms has to be passed through to get in the other rooms.

The people living around are friendly and welcoming. We once had to call someone for picking up his straying dog (please say hello to this really friendly dog named Scooby Doo if he visits You!) and we just rang at a house for someone making the phone call for us in French since our French is not so well and the lady was very friendly and not curious about us and just called the owner.

This place is full of history as well as the whole area. We visited several churches and the grotto of Baume les Messieurs. You have to go there when You come there! And don´t forget to by the lovely cheese from Saint Julien!

We would recommend this gite for everyone!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay in our gite. A few of our guests have mentioned the Pizza van that comes to the village every Saturday evening which is great when you've just arrived and don't feel like cooking. We too love the comté cheese from St Julien which is made from milk from the cows that surround the village. Thanks for pointing out the grotto at Baume as well. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Wonderful house in beautiful Gigny

  • 4 of 5

We spent a wonderful week in Gigny, in a very tastefully renovated old house.

The location is perfect ( opposite the abbaye and from the terrace overlooking the 'town' square).

In the village you will find a small bakery and a small but well-equiped supermarket. Everybody was very nice and patient with our horrible French.

A car is really necessary for undertaking trips. In the house is various information about things to do available.

Our children (10 and 13) missed having internet, but that was the only comment they had. We can warmly recommend this beautiful gite!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay in our gite particularly your teenager who managed without internet. We intentionally don't have a TV in the gite but there are games and books that you are welcome to use during your stay.

peace and quiet in La France Profonde

  • 4 of 5

This is the perfect retreat for those who like the quiet life. The cottage is in a fine position, opposite the ancient Cluniac abbey.Gigny is not a pretty-pretty village but it is steeped in history. There are many ancient houses. The village is surrounded by wooded hills and fields, and the local cows have clanging bells. The local people are friendly and welcoming, although one needs to have a bit of French in order to communicate! Also, one must have a car,as there is no public transport- at least,we saw none. The local supermarket is well-stocked with local produce and general goods.

The interior of the cottage is homely and there was everything we needed for a week's stay.It is the owner's second home and there are many of the children's books and games on shelves and in cupboards on the ground floor. There is no television, thank goodness. There are available several interesting books about life in the Jura and on La Petite Montagne in particular.

We used the double bedroom. The bed provided a wonderful night's sleep. All the linens were of good quality. There was plenty of hanging space for clothes, but not enough shelf space for underwear, etc. The bathroom was very clean and well-appointed.

We had a happy stay in Gigny. Thanks.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. It's lovely to get an external perspective on our gite and the Jura. If you are looking to try out your French you will certainly get the opportunity in and around Gigny which is off the beaten track and very much a local village. The supermarket is the best place to put any rusty French back into practice. You are correct about public transport. The village is small and buses are extremely infrequent so you do need a car to get to the lakes and to sightsee. Thanks for the comment about space for clothes. We have given over more space for people staying in the gite from now on as a result.

Peaceful stay - great sites and lakes

  • 4 of 5

We were a family of 5, including 3 children between 3 and 7 and we had a lovely time in this very quiet village.

The cottage being the secondary home of the owners is very functional - although there is one thing missing: a dish washer!

A car is needed to visit the lovely sites in the area recommended by the owners in a booklet left in the cottage and what we enjoyed very much was the absolute quiet roads! The roads are always yours!

Séjour à Gigny juillet-août 2012

  • 4 of 5

With fast and easy motorway access from Northern Europe, the Jura is a completely unspoilt area of lakes, forests and mid altitude mountains. It's perfect if you want to disconnect and get away from it all, swim in lakes in the summer or go skiing in the winter.

Gigny sur Suran is a village with 300 habitants in the Suran valley. The village is calm, surrounded by fields, woods and hills. If you are a walker there are many walks of varying degrees of difficulty from the village (some great views to be had once you've walked up the hills). The roads in the area have very little traffic which makes the Jura a great area for road biking as well as mountain biking in the woods. It is possible to fish in the Suran river with a licence. For children there is a small play park which also has a mini football pitch complete with goals with nets. A very big plus is the proximity to the Vouglans lake (25mins drive) which is 35kms in length and boasts beaches and water sports.
