Why Claire Macdonald chose Melrose
Saddlery cottage is a stunning property sitting in two acres of idyllic landscaped gardens. It is a traditional stone built cottage dating from 1860 which has been modernised an equipped to a very high standard. The cottage is only a short distance from the centre of the lovely town of Melrose with its wide range of high quality, shops, restaurants and bistros. The cottage offers the best of both worlds enjoying a very private south-facing location looking over our gardens to the Eildon Hills but is within very easy reach of a wide range of local tourist attractions and services. Tweedbank station and The Borders railway is less that 1 mile away and provides direct and frequent train access to central Edinburgh with all its attractions.
What makes this Cottage unique
A setting that is second to none. Close to Melrose which can easily be reached on foot but totally private and secluded. Beautifully equipped and furnished to provide guests with a luxurious self-catering experience.

My family loved this cottage.
I booked Saddlery Cottage for my family (2 adults, 3 children) as we couldn't accommodate them in our flat. It was ideal - just 5 minutes away from us.Everyone really liked staying somewhere with so much character. The cottage was comfortable and spacious, and the children made good use of the huge garden. It was wonderful to be able to have meals outside too. We all appreciated Claire and Donald's kindness - they gave us a great holiday.
Weekend break with friends from the US
Wanted to bring our friends to Scotland and found this cottage. It was just perfect. Clare and Donald were perfect hosts and the cottage had everything we could need and more. Lovely surroundings and handy for Melrose and took the train from nearby Tweedbank into Edinburgh. Would definitely go back again and highly recommend it.
Our second visit
This was the second year we have stayed at the cottage and it was excellent again this year. It is well maintained in a quiet and peaceful spot. If the weather is good it is only a 25 minute easy stroll into town for an evening meal, though do take care down the lane at the start.Other wise parking in Melrose is not a problem. We will be back again next year.
Wonderful cottage! I'd 100% recommend to others!
My family and I visit Scotland almost yearly to see my sister who lives near to Jedburgh. We'd never heard of this cottage before but we found it online and were automatically interested given it's location, price and beautiful pictures!
The owners were wonderful and very helpful leading up to our stay.
On arrival we found the cottage to be much larger than we expected! We had 5 adults, 1 child and a dog in our party and the cottage was a perfect size for all of us. The cottage was very clean and tidy and decorated for comfort. Our dog and 2 year old absolutely loved playing on the huge patch of grass right outside the front door!
The owners were extremely welcoming and friendly. Just what we needed after a 6 hour journey from Cambridgeshire!
We would 100% recommend this cottage to others. We will definitely be staying again in the future!
Superb cottage in a lovely location
This was our second long weekend in Saddlery Cottage and we will be returning. The cottage is quiet, well away from a main road and the adjoining field was perfect for walking our dog. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished and it provided everything we might need. The kitchen has all the appliances including a dishwasher. and washing machine. I have to say we didn't use most of them because tempting restaurants are just five minutes away but for a longer stay we would be well catered for in the cottage. Melrose is minutes from the A68 so we were easily able to reach places of interest. For us it was a perfect place to chill out and recharge our batteries. The owner showed us the smaller, one-bedroom cottage which was equally well appointed and charming. It would be a satisfactory second choice if Saddlery Cottage wasn't available. Highly recommended.
Excellent base for exploring Melrose and beyond
We spent a few days in this comfortable and cosy cottage but we could easily have spent longer. The cottage is in a quiet location, is very well equipped and we were made very welcome by the Macdonald family. In one direction it's a straight forward walk to Melrose itself and in the other a slightly longer walk to the hills and beyond. Our dog had a fantastic time too and we hope to return in the future.
The area has many attractions such as beautiful walks, splendid scenery, country houses, historic abbeys and a wide range of good restaurants in the beautiful town of Melrose. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, and stunning walks are all on the door step. The cottage is only a short walk from Melrose and enjoys a beautiful south facing rural outlook towards the Eildon Hills. The cottage sits in two acres of landscaped gardens and has been modernised and equipped to a very high standard to offers guests every modern comfort in this beautiful part of Southern Scotland.
