1-2 must things to do
Cabo Tinosa - The Guns: These two battery emplacements are well worth a visit, whether you have any interest in military history or not, and are a great place to take the visitors, offering stunning views, interesting architecture and fabulous great guns which make wonderful holiday photographs. There are several factors which make a trip up to 'the guns' as they are popularly called by the local population, such an enjoyable trip - the stunning scenery, the excitement of the guns themselves, and the bizarre architecture. Not for the faint-hearted with a narrow mountainous climb but it is well worth the visit.

About Eileen Swift
Originally from the UK and currently living in a small medieval town NE of Barcelona. We love traveling and we know what it's like to rent a holiday apartment so we have the apartment fully equipped. It's just like home from home!
Eileen Swift purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Eileen Swift chose La Azohia
January 1 2002 after a New Year's Eve party, my friends who live in the area 20 minutes away, took me out for a drive and a coffee to La Azohia. As we entered the bay I could feel my headache leave me and my eyes brighten, shoulders relaxed. The sun shine so brightly against the bluest sky. I returned a month later and bought our lovely apartment. It was then I saw a crane at the back of the village and asked to take a look before we left. Weeks later I had made a deposit on an off plan project. The rest they say is history. We love it. Spain at its best. Spanish speaking and bars that sometimes open when they feel like it. Years later La Azohia still works its Magic. Through some difficult times it is the place I head for.
What makes this Apartment unique
Very very Spanish. Untouched by the builders and bulldozers of the other Costas. It remains virtually untouched. The odd bar/ restaurant has made little improvements, but that's not a bad thing. Beach bars (known as chiringuitos) have appeared during the summer months, and that's not a bad thing either and a great place to people watch and see the amazing sunsets. Live on the solarium with a BBQ and a bottle of local, inexpensive but tasty wine, for some great views especially the fantastic sunsets. If you are feeling stressed, overloaded with work, La Azohia will certainly recharge the batteries.

Very nice and clean good views from the upstairs terrace.
A well kept apartment with all the things you need. Nice kitchen all the pots and pans you need. The rooftop terrace has lovely views across the ocean.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay in our apartment and like us, loved the solarium views.
I hear the weather was just perfect for January.
We hope to see you again in La Azohia.
3 Spanish & 1 English have a good time in La Azohía
I102 El Pinar - a really good, unspoiled village in Murcia from which to enjoy hot sun, sea and sand.
Sea? Take a 12 minute walk down a footpath to the beach by the lifeguard’s station. Otherwise free parking along the front. Knee-high sea for 40 yards for children and other paddlers. Thereafter you can swim beyond your depth in the buoyant Med.
Food? Villamar: an al fresco bar-restaurant looks out on the beach. Good aperitivos and luncheons with good food and friendly staff. Cyclists lean their machines and eat. (Avoid La Bodega restaurant.) Shop in Spar: well-stocked with food, wine & beer.
Driving? The roads around I102 are fun, like most Spanish roads. But BA lands at San Javier late at night. Train from Madrid to Cartagena ditto. At night, best to take the excellent AP-7 motorway in your new-to-you hire car. Leave it at Mazarrón to the west of La Azohía. Toll: 6.5 euros.
Proably best to land at Alicante during the daylight. Daytime, the E22 is a fine mountain road between Cartagena and La Ahozía with one bend sign-posted “muy peligroso”. (The parallel N332 is boring with a dozen unnecessary roundabouts.) Driving in Cartagena is also fun if you have a good map (free from El Corte Inglés). But you park at the station at the mercy of the drug addicts who pretend to supervise you. Slip them a euro not to have your hire car scratched. Let them fight it out.
The apartment has all mod cons. The roof terrace is a big square bonus. You can sunbathe there all day when the wind and the sea are rough (not that often). Washing pegged on the terrace dries inside an hour.
WiFi works well for Ipads and laptops. We were 3 Gallegos and 1 Harrovian. Spanish TV is, of course, rubbish: food programmes, lengthy weather and football. And the UK connection is invariably “pas de signal”. But hey, you’re there for the sunshine and the sea. Get a La Azohía life. Catch up on Shakespeare and Cervantes.
One tip. On arrival, consult the huge billboard map of the complex to locate I102. Most of the apartments seem to have driveways or numbered parking. But not I102. No worries. The public road has lots of unallocated bays which serve the complex.
The complex has a number of residents who live there in-season or at weekends. They chat to one another and are helpful. A couple living opposite had a boda party on their roof top . Pleasant to hear the Espańolas & the Ingléses getting together for a feast and hobnob.
Thank you Martin for your advice and help on driving directions. The other route on the mountain road from Cartagena is gorgeous but perhaps best in daylight if you haven't done it before with stunning scenery!
I'm sorry that you had this experience at Cartagena station but there are many other safe and secure car parks in this lovely city.
With respect to the parking here on the complex, only ground floor apartments have parking at the door, we on the other hand, have the benefit of the beautiful roof terrace that you and the family enjoyed. There is more than ample spaces in the dedicated parking 20m from the apartment.
It sounds like you and the family had a great time and we would hope to see you back in La Azohia again sometime soon.
Ultimate ralaxation vacation!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Azohia. The Mediterranean is stunningly beautiful from this little bay and the view from our patio roof was an abosolute delight. The flat was very well appointed, all of the necessities accounted for...a cozy home away from home. We fell very easily into the Spanish rhythm of life...play, eat, sleep, repeat. Possibillities for fun and fascinating day trips were many, we particularly enjoyed the ports of Mazarron and Cartegena. One of our favorite rituals was to go down the hill to the Beach Bar, sip on G and T and watch the sun go down. We were very sad to leave and plan to return again.
Thank you for your prompt review Juan.
We are pleased you liked the area and apartment for your Easter break and enjoyed the short walk to the beach and restaurants of La Azohia.
Recomendable.
La Azohia and surrounding area. La Azohia is cuddled by mountains and surrounded by sea. The beautiful sandy beach stretches for miles and even in the highest season you can find a beach to yourselves. The Costa Calida is a beautiful part of Spain. The area has a quiet village atmosphere with some local bars a mini-mart and the La Azohia 4 star hotel. The Port of Mazarron is 10 minutes drive away, and the main shopping area is just further along about 5 minutes drive. There is a wide variety of bars, restaurants, shops, Sunday market, banks and hotels. The town of Mazarron is 25 minutes drive away from the apartment, with Cartagena being 20 minutes away, which also has some lovely shops. The surrounding area is very rural with mountain scenery and lots of greenery. There are small pockets of different towns, such as Fuente Alamo and La Manga for you golfers.
