Fabulous apartment with views over the roofs of old Nice to the sea. 100m from the markets of Cour Saleya and the beach with its abundance of cafés and restaurants this is a location that is hard to beat.
The apartment was selected by us, to include as one of our rental properties, for its location. Rue du Malonat is a quiet pedestrien side street, right in the heart of old Nice. You step out of the door, 20 meters to the end of the street, and you literally have hundreds of cafés, restaurants, and shops, not to mention the famous market stalls of Cour Saleya just around the corner. Another few steps from there and you are on the Quai des Etas Unis and the beach.
When you have had enough sun, and enough food, there are a multitude of other things to see and do, from scuba diving and sailing, through cycling and rollerblading, to a multitude of museums and maybe an evening at the Opera.
With all this on your doorstep, you are sure to enjoy your stay.
How to double the size of the apartment.: This apartment is on next door to another apartment we operate called Saleya. The two apartments can be rented separately or together to create accommodation for up to ten people. There is a doorway off the staircase that gives onto a hallway, from that hallway each apartment has it's own front door. If the apartments are rented separately, then the hallway remains 'public', and if they are rented together then the hallway remains 'private'.
Getting around: Busses- The TAM busses are operated by the Conseil General des Alpes Maritimes and now charge a flat 1.50 per person, per trip. ie Every time you get on the bus, you pay 1.50€ regardless of how far you are going. The busses are clean, usually on time, and air conditioned.
Trains- The TER trains are the ones that serve the coastal towns, they are regular and clean. A ticket Nice to Monaco return will set you back 5 euro, but if you fancy spending the day exploring several towns then you are best to go for the Carte Isabelle which allows you on and off the train from Fréjus to Vintimiglia as many times as you like in one day, and costs 12 euro, unfortunately it is only available in the summer month July to September.
If train journeys is what you enjoy then you might want to consider the Chemin de Fer de Provence which offers a very scenic train through the lower Alpes from Nice to Dignes, clinging to the hill sides as it meanders its way across valleys and on up into the hills.
Tram- The tram is popular, and is therefore usually crowded, Tickets can be bought at the stops, from the booths on the platforms
Pricing is as follows;
1 trip ticket =1.50 euro
10 trip ticket = 10 euro
1 day pass = 4 euro
7 day pass = 15 euro
Cyclotour- You will see, dotted around Nice, strange tricycles with a covered back seat. If you are worn out from to much walking and/or shopping, use them. They are usually driven by students who will take you wherever you want for 1.50/km, even on a tour of Nice.
Parking- For those of you who come by car, parking Saleya (under cours Saleya) do passes for the duration of your stay . As a guide they charge 49€ for a three day pass and 9€ a day thereafter, which allows you in and out as often as you like. It is worth remembering that if it is your birthday they will offer you your birthday parking for free, and they have bicycles that they will lend free to car park users. You can get information on all this on site in the car park.
With oak parquet throughout, generous bathroom, separate lavatory, two bedrooms, and a great living space with views over the roof tops of old Nice to the sea.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances we come to expect in a modern kitchen.
The main bedroom has a double bed, fitted wardrobe, and chest of drawers, so you won't be short of storage space.
The second bedroom has two single beds, open shelving and a chest of drawers.
The bathroom has a large shower, double basin unit, heated towel rail, and again plenty of shelving and space for 5 people to put toiletries.
On the practical side, there is a large 'Monoprix' supermarket nearby for your weekly shop and a multitude of corner shops you can get last minute provisions from. The main bus stops are a short walk away and from there you can get up and down the coast from Cannes to Monte Carlo, quickly, comfortably and for only about 1.50€
We stayed in the Malonat apartment in July 2007 for 5 magical nights. Fantastic! Thanks to our hosts who were very helpful and welcoming. It was greatly appreciated, our trip was so much more enjoyable. The apartment was gorgeous and well worth the climb! The location was perfect, everything at our doorstep, including the market which had the most delicious food! I'll never forget the taste of those olives! In the afternoon, we enjoyed strolling through the little streets of the Old Town and discovering interesting shops, churches, restaurants and the evening market. Everyone comments on the jewelery I bought in Nice at that market. The other bonus is that the beach is only a few minutes walk away from the apartment.
Cheers and thanks for a great place to stay.
We are currently staying in Malonat. We like it so much we are staying (much) longer than planned. The location is great, pretty much everything you would need is within walking distance. Taking the bus from the airport is easy if you don't have a ton of baggage. Old Nice is Awesome! This is our second trip and we still love it. Rosemary is a great landlord. The flat has the necessities to cook and clean. The stairs are a bit of a task but we are traveling with a toddler and still manage. You also have a pretty good view of the blue water from one window. All the other positive reviews are accurate. We are VRBO landlords (663988#) and recommend staying here when in Nice.
Lovely old building with heaps of character. The 4 flights of stairs balanced out the ice creams each day!
Good facilities and lovely view of the sea. So central yet quiet too.
The location is in the heart of the old town of Nice so it is close to bars, restaurants, cafes and the famous Cours Saleya, very authentic and practical. The beach and Promenade des Anglais are just couple of minutes away. The flat is in a beautiful, old building, right in the heart of the Old Town, shared with locals. It is a 4th floor walk up, so not ideal for those with knee problems, older people and may be for children. The apartment is great! Two bedrooms with a split bathroom and a great dining area.
Rosemary is a fantastic host - she knows the area well and is so helpful and informative. And speacial thanks to Rosemary again for helping us with our bags . Hope to see you this year again Rosemary ..!
The apartment is as described and we´ve stayed there several times. Its location in heart of the old town makes it both authentic and practical. In Nice almost everything is reached by foot and if you rent a car you can easily discover the French and Italian Rivieras. The beach and Promenade des Anglais are just couple of minutes away, Cours Saleya even closer. In the evening there are lots of restaurants to choose from or you can just stroll the alleys in the old town or visit the renewed Promenade du Paillon. We´ve always got good and flexible service, couldn´t ask for more!
The location is in the heart of the old town of Nice so it is close to bars, restaurants, cafes and the famous Nice market. Less than 10 minutes' walk to the seafront and 15 to a great Monoprix (food shop).
The apartment itself is great! Two bedrooms with a split bathroom and a great kitchen/dining area. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of walking and exploring! The building itself is quiet as well so there is no worry of noise while trying to sleep.
Rosemary is a fantastic host - she knows the area well and is so helpful and informative. I would absolutely recommend this spot.
The photos do not do this flat justice! We are a family of 4 adults and stayed in Malonat, which was perfect for us. The wc and shower room are split, which is so convenient for getting ready in the morning, the latter with double sinks. The flat is in a beautiful, old building, right in the heart of the Old Town, shared with local residents. It is a 4th floor walk up, so not ideal for those with knee problems, but great for the rest of us looking to burn off all the cheese and wine! It is such great value given all of the above, and I would recommend it/return myself in a heartbeat. Special thanks to Rosemary for being very helpful all the way through our stay, including in notifying us of a bus strike on the day of our departure!
Location, location, location. Three words that best describe this apartments position. Just a few minute to the beach, main shopping district and to the bus station. You are in the heart of old Nice on a street that is quiet at night and day but with a hive of activity just around the corner. Close to Cours Saleya - the location of the daily flower market. Public transport is reliable and cheap (1.50€ anywhere on the buses) and offers easy access other places to explore from Cannes to Monte Carlo.
The apartment is located in the heart of Vieux Ville - Nice. Close (1min walk) to the Promenade des Anglais - Nice's famous seafront esplanade. It's 6km long and is a fantastic place for a stroll or hire a bicycle or set of Rollerblades. Nearby there are art galleries and museums (Musee Matisse, Musee des Beaux Arts, Musee d'Art Moderne) .
Why not indulge in breakfast on the beach, lunch with a seafood plater at 'Le Safari', and finish the day dancing to the small hours at 'La Bodeguita'
