About Yvonne Melli
We are Yvonne and Delfo Melli, your hosts. We came to the Garfagnana on holiday, fell in love with the area and were subsequently in a position to return and buy Casa Laura. We bought it as our holiday home but once Delfo retired we decided to leave the UK and make the permanent move to Italy. Fortunately, a decision that we haven’t regretted. Casa Laura is our home during the winter months and during the summer we live a few kilometres away in a small hamlet above Sillico. We have a passion for growing our own vegetables and a love of cooking, open spaces, walking, nature and history. All of which is possible and on the doorstep in this beautiful part of Italy.
Yvonne Melli purchased this Villa in 1999
Why Yvonne Melli chose Pieve Fosciana
We bought Casa Laura because firstly we fell in love with the spectacular views and secondly because of Sillico and it’s ideal geographical location. The village is small but full of character and history. It still has, unlike many of the villages in this area a thriving community which welcomed us from day one. It has a popular restaurant, bar and small shop. A short drive down from this idyllic mountain retreat and you are in Pieve Fosciana or Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, the capital of the Garfagnana where there are numerous supermarkets, restaurant, bars and local shops.
What makes this Villa unique
Because for half of the year Casa Laura is our home perhaps it’s not surprising that many of our guests comment upon how much the house feels like ” a home from home” during their stay. Popular tourist destinations such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence are all easily accessible whilst Casa Laura set within beautiful countryside has the perfect outside dining, swimming pool and garden to relax in. Because we live here all year round we have an in-depth knowledge of the area and it’s amenities and we are on hand as much as required to answer any queries and assist in whatever way we can to ensure our guests have an enjoyable and memorable stay.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Wonderfull stay at Casa Laura.
Our family of 5(Wife, daughter, son in law and grandson) have just spent a wonderful, relaxing 10 days in this terrific house.
The house is located at the top of a mountain, beside a medieval village (Silico) and it has the most amazing views out onto the Tuscan alps. Sunset with a whisky just beating early morning.
It is well maintained, clean and Yvonne was on hand to welcome us, ensure we settled in comfortably and provide lots of information on things to do.
We used the house as our base, while we visited Pisa, Barga and many local villages. We also visited Levanto on the Cinque Terre(Amazing, as reccomended by Yvonne)On other days, we relaxed by the pool and took walks around the village, our favourite being no 3.
We really enjoyed the pool and used it daily, to cool down from the heat.
We would recommend this house for families and people who are looking to have a relaxing stay in beautiful location.
We were lucky enough to experience the Dinner provided by the locals in the village piazza. Thanks Yvonne and Delfo for taking care of us.
A great house that has everything including a taverna next door.
A wonderful place to stay once you have overcome the tensions involved in driving to it. Good facilities for self catering. Wonderful pool and toys.
Would have loved to have stayed longer
Wonderful week in Sillico
Yvonne was welcoming and accommodating. The villa is well appointed, with everything you need for a quiet, relaxing stay in the picturesque village of Sillico.
There is plenty of room for 6 adults to sleep and also to relax on the terrace and in the pool. The pizza oven worked a treat - very handy to buy bags of ready made pizza dough in the local supermarkets.
The food in the nearby restaurant was excellent.
We enjoyed several of the marked walks around Sillico.
Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at this lovely villa.
Beautiful villa, fabulous views, relaxing stay
We had a smashing week here. The villa is well equipped and beautifully furnished. The outside space is particularly good, we spent most of our time there.
Very hot during our stay but with the shutters the house stays lovely and cool so no problem sleeping at night.
Pizza oven was great fun!
Hosts were available if required but very unabtrusive..
Idyllic mountain break
We stayed here at the end of our holiday for a week with our three children aged 7,9,11. We all had space to unwind, played in the pool, went for walks and enjoyed the local area. Thank you to Yvonne and Delfo who were the perfect hosts being there only when we needed then. The house is very well equipped with everything that you need to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Thank you for making our time in Italy so special and memorable for all the right reasons.
Picturesque location on a Tuscan Mountain
Our family of 5 have just spent a wonderful week in this terrific house.
The house is located at the top of a mountain, beside a medieval village (Silico) and it has the most amazing views out onto the Tuscan alps.
Its a large property, with plenty of space and it is very well equipped. It is well maintained, immaculately clean and Yvonne was on hand to welcome us and ensure we settled in comfortably.
We used the house as our base, while we visited some local towns, cities, including Lucca (amazing), Florence (needs more than a 1 day visit) and Barga (a quaint town nearby). On other days, we relaxed by the pool and took walks around the mountains.
Our kids loved the pool and we used it daily, to cool down from the August heat.
We would recommend this house for families and people who are looking for a unique location - the village next door is certainly that.
If you are lucky enough, you may even participate in the town festival - that occurs a few times each summer.
Close to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana the capital of the Garfagnana valley, Sillico is a charming medieval village dating back as far as the 1500's when it was home to one of the most notorious bandit of the region, Il Moro.
It is a region rich in local traditions, natural beauty and breathtaking views. Naturally the area provides great walking country and from Sillico there are a selection of clearly marked walks catering for a variety of abilities. Surrounded by all this countryside you would be forgiven for thinking that this is all the region has to offer but you would be very wrong.
The area is dotted with medieval villages, Barga and the Spa town of Bagni di Lucca being well worth a visit. For a cultural day out the historic city of Lucca with it's 16th century walls is a must, Pisa with it's famous leaning tower and of course not forgetting the beautiful city of Florence. For the petrol heads amongst you the Ferrari museum is another option.
Foodies are well catered for as the area has plenty of good restaurants serving traditional fare. Local shops ,delicatessens and markets selling locally produced and sourced produce.
Outdoor activities are in abundance - walking, horse riding, rope adventure courses and canyoning.
