About Karen

After working in Real Estate on the Island for over 25 years and managing hundreds of rentals we really wanted to do our home 'the right way'! Having happy vacationers is our goal and having people fall in love with the Island is our joy! For Generations the Vineyard has held a special place in our hearts. The Island is part of who we are. Given the opportunity in the mid 1980's to move here full time and raise our children here we jumped at the chance. Having raised and educated our children here, they have now all gone off to their adult lives scattered across the country now raising families of their own. The one constant for all of us is that we continue to gather on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. We built this compound to serve us if we are just two or if we are twenty strong. When we are not using the houses we rent them. Most of our guests have been coming to the Island for years and stay with us each summer. Our goal is to make our home feel likes yours while you are here.

Karen purchased this house in 1999

Why Karen chose Edgartown Area

We searched for several years for the perfect spot for our compound. We actually wanted two parcels of land, one for us and one for my sister and her family. When we found the 6 acre meadow we knew right away it was what he had been looking for. We built our compound to serve our family and with the extra 3 acre parcel my sister was able to join our dream doing the same. We fell in love with this location because it is surrounded by hundreds of acres of protected land, a little off the beaten from summer traffic yet 4 miles into Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, Edgartown Village or West Tisbury Village, just a short distance to one of the best beaches on the Island...LONG POINT and the bike path runs right past the end of our road.

What makes this house unique

Our favorite part of our location is that it feels like the Vineyard we grew up with almost a half a century ago. Our property boasts a huge open sky with ocean breezes and the constant sound of the sea when it gets angry. We are not in a subdivision so our home has privacy and a personality all of it's own. You can walk off the property and continue for miles along ancient trails and across acres of open fields that will stay forever wild and are protected by conservation. It is truly a very special place. It is in an area called the Oyster Watcha Midlands. Island History tells that it is here that the Indian Tribes from the Cape and the Vineyard would gather for their summer camp meetings. Between the open fields and ponds scattered along the south side of the Island hunting was always more than good and it was a beautiful place to gather.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hate to have to leave this little piece of heaven. Our vacation is always something we look forward too but now that we have found Oyster Watcha Meadow I have to say it was the best vacation we have ever had. You have thought of everything. We love to cook and it is obvious that you do too! The kitchen is fantastic and so well equipped. The pool and gardens were amazing. Loved the location and how beautiful the whole meadow is. Great Stay...thanks

BEST compound on MV!!! Where to begin...everything was perfect during our mini-family reunion on the lovely island of Martha's Vineyard. We usually vacation on Nantucket however we were getting tired of the loung haul and decided to give MV a try. My sister's and I wanted to find a home that would accomodate the 3 of us and all of our kids, one that was centrally located (all attractions were a quick 15 minute drive), had a saline pool and much privacy - Karen and Paul's fit the bill and went way beyond our highest expectations. The home was beautifully decorated - we joked that we were living within the pages of a Pottery Barn magazine! Both houses were appointed with luxury linens, both had fully stocked gourmet kitchens, two hot tubs!, there were kayaks, board & yard games, pool toys...they have thought of EVERYTHING. Dean and I are excited to make this our new family vacation spot. Karen, Paul and Bequia...thank you so much for an amazing time at your home! We just booked our return for 2012!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We loved having you and your family and want you to know that you are always welcome back anytime. Family time is a precious thing and to see you all enjoy the Island and the property is the very reason we built the compound.... a place for families to gather and celebrate each other! So happy to know that you will be back in 2012

Martha's Vineyard midlands hideaway

  • 5 of 5

To owners Paul and Karen, well done! You have created an oasis in the middle of an oasis. Your guest house was just perfect for the two of us, and could have accommodated more, with plenty of additional bed-space and living space. Loved the hot tub. Loved the surroundings. We ate in almost every night -- probably upset a number of local restaurateurs, but then......

Thanks also for letting us in a bit early, and allowing us to stay a bit late on checkout day. As you know, we discovered a flat tire on our rental car when we went out to load our luggage into the car. That little surprise necessitated a hurry-up tire change to the mini-spare tire, then a rush to Oak Bluffs to an auto repair shop to get the tire fixed, and then a rush back to your guest house to load up just in time to rush back to Vineyard Haven in time to make our ferry reservation! Quite a morning, last Friday. Our trip home was uneventful, except that my suitcase apparently decided not to leave your guest house (just kidding!). It did not arrive with us as we flew home to Boise. But, I have it now, so all is well that ends well.

Thanks so much for your hospitality!

Jan and Jack

Fantastic Property

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in the Guest house for a week and had a fabulous time. The house was pristine and very comfortable, with great amenities. The grounds were beautiful. This property offered a special quality with a great pool and facilities and a splendid hot tub. The rental also provided for the flexibility to have plenty of privacy or interact with others who are staying in the Main house. Paul and Karen were incredibly hospitable and gracious, always willing to do whatever they could to enhance our visit. We look forward to creating future memories at this idyllic place. We're already thinking about coming back next summer.

A Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

What a spectacular property! We have stayed in a number of places on the island, but this one tops the list. Paul and Karen are gracious and attentive hosts - at the call should the need arise (which it did not!) Everything is even more lovely than the photographs - the house is clean and beautifully decorated and the kitchen wonderfully appointed if you like to cook in - which we do often. The outdoor space is a peaceful oasis with lovely plantings, outdoor shower, pool and hot tub. We never wanted to leave! Thank you, Paul and Karen, for a fabulous family vacation!

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and stayed for a week in the Guest House. The home was very nicely decorated and comfortable. It looks just like you see it in the photos. It had all of the amenities we needed from the lobster pot to a beach bag, cooler, umbrella and chairs for a day at the beach to kayaks. The house is down a long road through the woods and we loved arriving home each day to a very quiet haven away from it all. It was centrally located - took about 15 to 20 minutes to get to most every town or beach on the island - which was perfect for us as each day we chose a different beach and a different town to explore. The owners were very helpful in advance with suggestions for everything! And, were also very responsive during our stay when we had questions.

Our favorite M.V. things: Coffee and amazing blueberry muffins each morning from Morning Glory Farms, W. Tisbury Farmers Mkt, South Beach and Long Point Trustees Beach, Edgartown Shopping, Lobsters from Net Result and Eating Lobsters on the dock at Larsen's in Chilmark!

We do hope to return!

What an Amazing Experience in Martha's Vineyard!

  • 5 of 5

I want to begin by saying Paul and Karen are fabulous!

I have stayed and traveled to many places and this by far was a highlight for me. This trip was planned by myself to surprise, at the time, my girlfriend and now fiancée. We flew directly to Martha's Vineyard from Chicago and upon our Arrival, Paul was waiting for us and made sure we had a hands on tour of the property, answered any and all of our questions and provided us with some great recommendations/materials to read during our stay.

Paul and Karen also provided us with the "Wine of the month" featured for Martha's Vineyard in October - Thank you!

The Guest home that we stayed in was in immaculate condition and had every amenity that we could possibly need. We enjoyed the sunroom and the beautiful scenery. The hot tub is a must and we enjoyed spending time with one another enjoying the beautiful atmosphere. Our stay at this location exceeded all of my expectations for a very special week and trip to propose. We will plan on coming back as often as we can and also telling our friends, family and anyone looking for a "Perfect weekend away." The photos helped paint a picture of this property, however - it was beyond what I had imagined when I arrived and was able to view in person.

Thank you for all of you assistance in making this a very special week for us, and opening your lovely property to us. We enjoyed every minute of it and we can't wait to head back!

A few places I would recommend for everyone would be to head to Menemsha and stop at Larsen’s fish market to get some FRESH Lobster - Grab a shirt while your there and make your friends jealous when you head back home. Edgartown meat market is a nearby, great place to get high quality meats to prepare a nice meal at home - again, everything you need to prepare your meal (utensils) is at the house.

Explore the island and then enjoy this wonderful home! Paul and Karen even had beach chairs and a cooler at the home that you can take out with you on your adventures - its all the little things that they have done that will make your trip better than you could imagine!

** I also loved the guest book that everyone signs as they leave, it had great recommendations and was awesome to see how much fun everyone else also had at this location!

Thank you for everything!
