Charming one bedroom cottage, perfect for couple on a Hudson Valley adventure

This newly renovated, fully furnished, one bedroom cottage is located in Highland, NY, which is a central location to access all of the prime features of the Hudson Valley. Perfect for a couple on a weekend or week getaway anytime of the year! (We can also accommodate a young child).

The cottage sits on one acre and joins another 9 acres of wood and meadow

with paths for strolling. Guests are welcome to stroll anywhere on the ten acres. Whether you are interested in a lazy day in the meadow or exploring the many historic sites, museums, wineries, nature or athletic adventures, antiques, culinary gems, river mansions, rail trails, waterways; this lovely guest cottage is the perfect location.

The cottage is a 4-minute drive to the “Walkway Over The Hudson”, the spectacular walkway 200 feet above the Hudson River with the glass viewing elevator. We have 2 adult bicycles for your use or bring your rollerblades or skateboard and head out over the river!

Afterwards, make your way downhill for a picnic at the Highland Riverfront park or one of the eateries on the river. The “Walkway Over The Hudson” also connects to miles of scenic rail trails through other Hudson Valley towns.

Speaking of cuisine, Highland is 15 minutes from the famous “Culinary Institute of America” in Hyde Park. You will find great food in local restaurants as well as 30 wineries, breweries, cider and whiskey distilleries nearby. Don’t want to eat out? The cottage has a full kitchen. This area has many local farms selling produce, meats and artisanal products not to mention the Hannaford’s Supermarket 3 minutes away.

Outdoor adventure includes kayaking through the Black Creek waterways,

rock climbing in the Shawagunks, skydiving in Gardiner, whitewater tubing down the Esopus River, horseback riding and much more. Cross-country skiing is right here and downhill skiing is under an hour’s drive. Zip lining is an hour away on Hunter Mountain. You can explore the caves in Rosendale. If you are more of a traditionalist, you can golf, bike or hike. Go ice-skating at Mohunk Mountain House’s ice rink or hiking in Minnewaska State Park.

Indoor adventure includes exploring the many Gilded Age mansions on the Hudson River and open to the public. There are fine museums on the campuses of West Point, Vassar, Marist and SUNY colleges. There is live theatre at Vassar’s Powerhouse Theatre. In the summer, check out the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Company. There are great buys at local antique stores and boutiques in New Paltz and Kingston or on the other side of the river in Hyde Park and Rhinebeck.

Come explore the Hudson Valley, hang out at our guest cottage and do as much or as little as you like. It’s sunny, comfortable and cozy and chances are there will be a complimentary bottle of wine and some delicious snacks

awaiting your arrival.

About Elise Viola

I have been a full time Hudson Valley resident for 19 years after spending 3 consecutive

summers in the countryside designing sets for a summer stock theatre called "Tri-Arts".

After the first summer, I was completely smitten with the Hudson Valley. When my husband and I decided to buy a home, we knew we couldn't live anywhere else.

The guest cottage was built by the same family that built our 1938 farm house

where we live. The cottage was built in 1968 for a single uncle of the family.

The cottage remained in that original family until I purchased it in year 2000. I've redesigned the interior and my dear friend and professional carpenter Jay, has

done all the custom carpentry. These days I am around enough to offer guests any information on all the hidden and not-so-hidden gems the Hudson Valley has to offer.

Elise Viola purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Elise Viola chose Highland

The guest cottage is centrally located to all the tourist attractions and natural wonders

in the Hudson Valley. The property itself sits among a wildflower meadow and vegetable

garden in summer, all accessible to guests. In the fall the cottage is surrounded by trees

with their spectacular foliage.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is both contemporary and cozy with a peaceful view of the woods. When

you are in the cottage you have the feeling you are in a secluded location. If you tire

of the serenity, you could be on the "Walkway Over the Hudson" or at a winery among other

people within a few minutes. The area has a unique combination of a rural setting yet there

is so very much to do and see. Wether you are in the mood for nature or culture; it's all

here in the Hudson Valley and the town of Highland is centrally located.

Fantastic stay ! Happy customer.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had such a nice, relaxing getaway from the kids. Elise's cottage was simply put -perfect. A beautiful oasis, not too far from the city. It was just what we needed to relax and recharge. We had a peaceful weekend in Elise's clean and oh so cute cottage, and made some new chipmunk friends! We would definitely recommend to others and hopefully will be back as well.

Great base camp for your adventures in the area

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a great place for an extended weekend with my Mom. Hosts Elise and Ron made us feel welcome, and even shared tomatoes and flowers from their garden. A relaxing, safe place to use as a base camp for all of the adventures the area holds.

The location was perfect for family weekend at the college. House was just the perfect size and great location. Although we never met the owner they were always quick to answer any questions we had via email or text.

Stay was excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was adorable, bed was very comfortable. Very peaceful outside. Hostess Elise was available and accommodating, and was happy to provide suggestions and contacts for things to do in the area. She even dropped off a shopping bag of fresh vegetables from her garden! All in all was a great getaway, would definitely go again.

Great Stay and Host!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for two nights with our toddler son. Elise was a great host! Perfect location, close to DuBois Farms, Walkway Over the Hudson and a short drive to Mohonk Preserve. The cottage is modern, clean and comfortable. This is one of those rentals that falls into that sweet spot of having everything you need without any clutter. We hope to visit again soon!

Excellent. Clean. Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This rental was amazing! Hosts were friendly and accommodating. The place was clean and well kept and fully stocked with everything we needed. The neighborhood was quiet and there was plenty of activities to keep us busy all weekend! I would recommend this for a weekend getaway of either relaxing or outdoor activities and sight seeing. I cant say enough good things about the rental, the hosts, the neighborhood, and the bordering towns. A great experience.
