Ocean breezes and views will delight you from our open and reverse floor plan home as you are relaxing or dining on the second floor living area, screened porch or sun porch. The second floor has an oversized kitchen with granite counter tops, a 36' TV/DVD, lots of books to catch up on your summer reading, and OUTSTANDING ocean views, plus panoramic views of the golf course and 'Old Baldy.' Our oversized, estate lot affords you privacy and seclusion from noise and neighbors.
The dining room table seats eight to ten; the outside dining table seats four to six, plus there is bar seating for the kids. The screened porch with a paddle fan and upholstered chairs will allow you to spend long hours enjoying the indoor/outdoor sound system while enjoying coffee, a meal or drinks while watching passing ships. Ships come close to shore at the end of our street before proceeding up the Cape Fear River, so bring your binoculars to catch the details on the ship decks as they pass by!
The two master bedrooms, each with a bathroom, king-sized bed with pillow-top mattress, and 36' remote control TV in armoire, make this home perfect for TWO FAMILIES. The master bedrooms open out to a full length shade porch facing the ocean, perfect for napping or reading on the hammock. The other bedrooms, each with two twin beds, share a full bath. 'Second Wind,' built in 2003, is app. 2300 sq. ft., and has hardwood floors throughout, nine foot ceilings and FREE WIRELESS INTERNET access.
Approximately 650 feet from from the ocean, one block to the ocean/beach access and one-block walk to the BHI Club, where you can enjoy golf, the pool, formal or casual dining, lounge, tennis and indoor workout room, make this a UNIQUE location on the island. You will love the convenience of casual breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Pelicatessan and lovely dining at the BHI Club, or relaxing poolside at the BHI pool. Two bicycles (bike rentals also available on the island if more are needed), beach chairs and umbrella, and two golf carts (one seats six, one seats four), are provided, along with a trailer that hooks to a golf cart for hauling beach chairs, coolers and and umbrellas to the beach! Both the BHI Club and the SHOALS CLUB temporary memberships are INCLUDED in the summer rental price, as is the maid service. You will not want to leave our serene and quiet location and home, only a walk or bike ride away from the BHI Club and ocean.
We live in Raleigh and use the cottage ourselves for our family one weekend or week per month (in the summer), so we are not absentee landlords. We can stay on top of the little things that can go missing or get broken with everyday summer usage, in particular. Our maids are the best and keep the house beautifu. The house was built, in 2003. Since we use the house regularly ourselves, we attend to the details that need attention. We are only a phone call away, in Raleigh, and have many friends and neighbors on the island. So, we are not distant, absentee owners.

We vacationed at many North Carolina beaches before settling on Bald Head Island. At other beaches, though, we spent half of our time going from hot cars to the store, restaurants, etc., along crowded roadways. At Bald Head, riding in the golf carts along the quiet steets, shared by bicycles and roller bladers, is half the fun. We selected the location of our cottage, 'Second Wind,' which we built in 2003, because of the great views and proximity to the BHI Club and ocean. Because we have an estate lot, larger than the typical lot, we have a lot of privacy from neighbors and virtually no road noise, as we are on a quiet cul de sac. We walk to the BHI Club several times a day, for the pool, golf, to use the athletic room, lunch or dinner at the Peli. In the summer, we especially like take-out dinner from the Peli at the BHI Club, which we then eat on our comfortable screened in porch watching the sun go down. Our long and wide porches are the best feature of our house! Second Wind is great for family gatherings. We built the house so that two families could enjoy the house together, with two master bedrooms, each with king bed and TV in armoire. We always take along another family when we enjoy the house ourselves.
The porches are the best feature of the house! We live on the porches in the summer, and you will too, on your vacation. The views are incredible and the upholstered furnishings on the upper level allow you to while away the hours in comfort. The screened in porch with paddle fan allows you to stay outside late into the night, without bugs, and play cards or socialize with your family or friends, while listening to the outdoor sound system. The large dining table is great for building puzzles. Probably the second best feature of 'Second Wind' are the master bedrooms, each with a king bed and 36' TV inside a cabinet and wood furnishings. The pillow-top mattresses are soooo comfortable. Second Wind is a welcoming and restful home away from home.
Thank you for an incredibly wonderful and relaxing getaway at second wind in Bald Head island. Your home provided just the atmosphere we were looking for. It was conveniently located, cozy and Made us feel right at home. For 8 adults and a 2 year old, we found that we had everything we could possibly need, and felt right at home. We had absolutely the best week!! Everything was absolutely perfect! The house was very well equipped and everything WORKED...which is a huge plus when you are renting...I have not always had that be the case. The beds and linens were very comfortable which is also a huge plus in a rental and when you are vacation! The house was very clean and the porch was so incredibly comfortable to sit on and enjoy that gorgeous view. We loved sitting back a little from the road but also be able to see the ocean and activity below. We enjoyed the board games as well as the sound system- big plus to the house for us! You were wonderful to work with and I will definitely be in touch to rent again! THANK YOU!
What a wonderful week-end my family of six had. Your beach home is beautiful and so very comfortable. There is beauty from every window. My grandsons and I saw the sunrise and sunset on Saturday. Beautiful! I loved standing at the kitchen sink and seeing the ocean. The boys freaked out when a huge ship went by. It was like it was in the living room! We loved the porches, all of them. It rained just a bit but not a problem. The cabinet was full of games for all ages. We only had to rent one bike for the 6 year old, all others were perfect. We loved having the two carts, one for the golfers and one for the entire family when we went on adventures to the beach or lunch. We walked to the pool and park. It was just perfect.

We just returned today from a memory-filled week at Second Wynd. The home was lovely, with the screened in porch being our favorite hang out area in the house - always a lovely breeze and great view of the ocean...we could hear the waves lapping in the distance. We had 7 adults and our two little granddaughters...the house was more than big enough for us to gather in any area. Great location - right next to BHI club, not far from the harbor area, the Market or the Shoals club. The East Beach is one of the nicest beaches we've ever been to. We fell in love with Bald Head Island and everyone in the family wants to make it our new annual family vacation.
We have 2 golf carts - a six seater and a 4 seater, for your usage.

STANDARD RATE is the MINIMUM - actual rate may be higher.
