A week in Chateau D'Oex
We were most impressed with this apartment and its very attractive setting. There were stunning views to the mountains from the living room window, especially attractive at sunset. The village offered us a good variety of places to eat and quality food shops when we wished to cook for ourselves. The comfort of their visitors has been high on the owners’ priorities, because the apartment has been fully and thoughtfully equipped. We found the range of tourist leaflets and maps particularly useful. We also much enjoyed the facilities offered within the apartment complex, particularly the heated swimming pool, the gym and petanque court. The numerous and well-signed hiking trails in the area provided us with opportunity to walk in superbly attractive alpine scenery.
Nice apartment within walking distance to town.
Well equipped and well maintained. Good information for the area provided. Good service from the concierge.
Well-appointed apartment with beautiful mountain views
The apartment benefits from views of mountains on all sides and boasts an underground car park where your car can be safely stored. As well as having skiing facilities there are many hiking trails close by that take you over and around the mountains. There is a good rail service and the town which is within walking distance from the apartment has some excellent restaurants selling traditional foods as well as catering for a range of tastes. The apartment is well-equipped and comfortable and there is a range of well-organised information which gives details about the area, the amenities and leisure activities. A range of games and books are also provided. Although there is no washing machine / tumble dryer a laundry service is offered. The pool and sauna are a nice way to relax at the end of a busy day but there are time limits when these can be accessed and the pool is maintained weekly so is unavailable for one morning per week. There is also a gym area but we did not use these facilities.
You are asked to contact Angelo the rental manager half an hour prior to your arrival and he meets you by the apartment. This system works well - not only is Angelo friendly and helpful but also a fount of knowledge regarding local attractions and activities. When we arrived in the evening following a drive through mountainous roads, the complimentary bottle of wine was a welcome touch!
To clarify the situation regarding the washing machine/tumble dryer...... there are self service laundry facilities on the lower ground floor of the building. These can be used at any time when vacant. There are washing machines and tumble dryers, together with a sink, drying rack, iron and ironing board ( there is also an iron and ironing board in the apartment ). A payment card needs to be purchased from the manager for a small fee.
Lovely & clean with beautiful views
We were very happy at this lovely and clean property in beautiful Chateau d'Oex. It is has everything you need and we had a comfortable stay. The building is well run and the pool was a treat. We would definitely love to return one day.
Great overall experience
My family and I were extremely happy with our stay at La Residence Rosat. Liz and Steve’s apartment is very well appointed, the building is quiet and secure, and the on-site manager helpful. We were not overly disappointed by the lack of snow during our stay, as we were able to take full advantage of the amenities in the building (pool, sauna…) and visit local attractions by train (Gruyere, Gstaad). The only downsides were the uneven wi-fi coverage in the apartment and the 15-20-minute walk to the supermarket and train station. Otherwise, I recommend this rental without hesitation.
Great vacation getaway
Wonderful apartment with everything as described. We love to cook and the clean kitchen was well equipped. The quaint town has a large grocery store, two bakeries, several restaurants and a train station all a 10-15 minute walk away (uphill coming back to the apartment!). The view from the terrace into the valley is spectacular with hot air balloons spotted frequently in the early morning hours. The beds were comfortable with good reading lights and the rooms had ample storage space. Living room and dining room were also cozy. The swimming pool was a nice to have with few people using it. The internet connection in the apartment was a bit spotty but always accessible in one area. Loads of maps and guides full of activities for several weeks (summer and winter) were very helpful. The area has lots of hiking and is within easy driving distance to Gruyere (town with castle), Caillier (Nestle) chocolate factory in Broc, Gstaad. A rail trip to Montreux is rewarded with a scenic view of the lake. Would definitely recommend this for both a relaxing or active vacation!
Low cost flights to Geneva. We are 120 Kilometres from Geneva, 15 minutes from Gstaad, 1 hour train journey to lake side Montreux. The train from Geneva connects with the MOB Panoramic railway, which takes the picturesque route to Chateau d’Oex. 12 hours drive from London.
Other Activities: Hot air ballooning, ice-skating, curling, white water rafting, canoeing, mini golf, tenpin bowling, archery, pentanque, via ferrata
Golf: Within 1hours drive from Chateau d’Oex, there are 4 golf courses, at Saanenmoser, Villars, Lake Gruyere, and Aigle. The nearest, 20 minutes away, and arguably one of the most spectacular Alpine courses, is Golf Club Gstaad Saanenland, a stunning 18 hole course, (par 70, 5305 metres) at an altitude of 1400 metres, and is open from June to October, after the snow has receded. The driving range has a view to die for! In early summer the fairways weave between protected orchids in a nature reserve and alpine meadow flowers and pine woods. Golf de la Gruyere (par 68, 5058 metres) has views over the lake and to the mountains beyond. Montreux Golf Course at Aigle (par 72, 5828 metres), is flatter and easier on the legs. The green fees vary between £30 and £50, depending on the day you play.
Ski: Chateau d’Oex is part of the Gstaad Superski region, with 250 kilometres of piste, 66 lifts and 6 ski areas, amongst stunning scenery, and including the summer skiing on Les Diablerets Glacier at over 3000 metres. Four hour or daily passes allow great flexibility and the area suits all standards of skiers. Nursery and snow park for children in the village. Local cable car in centre of village. Excellent cross country skiing at La Lecherette 15 minutes away. There are many designated snow shoeing and winter walking paths in the area.
