Had a great time, beautiful place!
Very comfortable place to stay, lots of privacy and beautiful settings.
Charming adirondack camp
My husband, I and our 2 adult children and their partners spent a three day weekend at this wonderful camp on picturesque Star Lake. The camp was perfect sized with three bedrooms, although you have to walk through one of them to get to another. The wrap around porch was so cozy and inviting with such a view! We took full use of the facilities with nightly campfires, canoeing and kayaking and our favorite....the motorized dock! The dock gets sun nearly the whole day. Beware the hill to get down to the water if you have any mobility issues, it's great exercise though for those of us of normal physicality. The bathroom is tiny but nice hot shower. You have to bring your water to drink or boil the tap water. My only real issue was the stove. Only 2 burners work and no oven...it's a unique antique stove that is really cool to look at but not real easy to use if you are a cook. Luckily there are 2 grills, a gas one and a charcoal green egg which I figured out how to bake on. The owners were great communicators, we were even able to check in early and stay a little late!
We are so happy we found this gem on VRBO and would happily rent it again!
Based on reviewer feedback, we have replaced the antique cooking stove with a modern cooking range complete with functional oven. We have acknowledged the request for convenience and functionality over maintaining the historic nature of the kitchen facilities. We appreciate your comments and look forward to you staying with us in the future.
Awesome little lake, very responsive owners
It's a small lake with lots of bays and islands. It was fun to explore. In one bay there is a sand bar that looked like the place party. Out in front of the cottage the lake bottom is nice and sandy. We spent most of our time hanging out on the dock or parking around the lake in the provided kayak and canoe (we also brought a kayak and rented some stand-up paddleboards from the grocery store that is just around the corner).
The weather wasn't always great for our stay but the owners offered us a late check-out so we could spend a little more time. They were also quick to answer any of our questions leading up to our stay and refunded our deposit quickly, too.
I'm having a hard time reviewing the cottage itself because for us it was great. If you're looking for a lot of room to unwind in or to make a big meal in the kitchen then maybe the place isn't right for you. There is room to move and the kitchen is nice but two burners on the stove don't work and neither does the oven. However, they do provide two grills do you're probably covered. The main door to the first floor porch doesn't latch but will stay closed anyway unless it's windy and then you just use the side lock on it. All minor issues in my eyes as you can tell by the 5 star rating.
Peaceful, quiet, and fun-filled get away
Bill and Amanda met us upon our arrival and gave us some helpful hints to make our stay amazing. We're so glad they shared their piece of heaven with us! The view when you pull in the driveway will take your breath away. The house sits on a hill among pines overlooking the lake just below. It's an unbelievable setting. Everything you want in a quiet family get away is here. The porches, fire pit, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and exploring Star Lake on the floating deck made this a vacation my family will never forget. There is a cool little coffee shop in town with the nicest people you'll meet, and a store you can walk to to buy whatever you need to grill out on the porch. The bedrooms open up to the upstairs porch where you can relax on the swing and listen to loons. We can't thank Bill and Amanda enough. We plan on visiting again and again.
