"What to see in Rione Monti?"
Here are big and small things to do, like the narrow picturesque alleys, or the major highways like Via Nazionale or Via Cavour, which are very congested traffic arteries, are two of Rome's finest streets.
Definitely not to be missed is the Museo dei Fori Imperiali, followed by the basilicas of St. John Lateran and Santa Maria Maggiore, who have certainly played an important role for the growth of the Ward!
The church of St. Peter in Vincoli, which houses the Moses of Michelangelo, the sacred chains of St. Peter and the tomb of Julius II.
The Colle Oppio Park is perfect for a walk and to enjoy the view of the Coliseum.
Some of the ways to visit are:
Via Panisperna, one of the most beautiful in Monti. The neighborhood is nicely cut and has the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore as a background;
Piazza Madonna dei Monti is the heart of the neighborhood and the favorite place for young people to meet in the evening;
Via Leonina is perhaps the best way to shop and shop low on vintage clothes and here on Saturday opens the Monti Urban Market;
The climb of the Borgia, a steep staircase that leads from Via Cavour to St. Peter in Vincoli and is covered by a green ivy cascade.
Via dei Neofiti is finally a section of the neighborhood, full of small shops and shops selling street food or jewels.
