Verdley Hill House is approached by its own long private drive and sits in an elevated position with views over the countryside. Totally secluded in its own grounds, the house occupies a delightful position between Midhurst and Fernhurst, providing an idyllic country retreat whilst retaining excellent accessibility to London and the coast.

There are many different areas to this house, outdoors there is a secluded, well established garden with stunning roses and large beds of lillies to the back of the house. To the West there is a very large pool complex, a real sun trap that gets the sun all day long. To the North there is a lovely terrace that takes in the fabulous views, bench seating around a table makes it a breakfast al fresco favourite, you can enjoy the surroundings from up high! Indoors there are some lovely cosy yet spacious communal areas, the hall is a wonderful peaceful open space, the sitting room a cosy relaxed traditional style beamed room and a formal dining room, leading to a very large fully kitted country kitchen (with 5 door aga during the winter and an electric Range cooker in the summer).

The bed rooms and bathrooms in the main house are all in a good condition, some having been recently refurbished. The large and light master bedroom has a superking bed and lots of cupboard space and its own bathroom with bath, shower and separate loo cubicle. The guest room has a double bed and ensuite bathroom and again a separate loo. The two other upstairs rooms (1 smaller double room and 1 bunk room) share a lovely newly done up bathroom. The annexe (housing the 2 further bedrooms) can be accessed from either the kitchen or its own separate entrance from the main car park area. The annexe has 2 storeys, with a bedroom, shower room and sitting room upstairs and a bedroom, shower room and kitchen downstairs.

There is ample parking at the property and electric gates that can be locked shut for further security if required.

There will also be a live in housekeeper residing in a separate cottage on site to assist with the running of the house. Note, there are 2 dogs (Labradors, very friendly) and a cat also living around the property.

Set in the South Downs National Park, the surrounding area provides a mecca for recreational facilities. Midhurst is home to the famous Locally (approx. a 5-10 min walk down the hill) Henley village boasts the Duke of Cumberland pub, renowned for its wonderful ambiance and award winning food. There are footpaths nearby linking the property to the Serpent Trail (from Haslemere to Petersfield), along with hundreds of other footpaths and hiking trails, making this a wonderful base to explore the South Downs national park area. The coast is approx. 40mins by car. Midhurst is 2 miles to the South, Haslemere 7 miles to the north,

We are a busy family (3 young boys), we've lived here for over 10 years and love the area. The boys are rugby nuts and play for Midhurst rugby club. I have horses and ride regularly. We are outdoor loving people and enjoy many different sports. Simon, my husband loves hiking and cycling all around this area.

Why Phillipa Armstrong chose Haslemere

This house is a traditional Sussex style country house. It was originally 3 properties that were joined together decades ago. The views from the house are exceptional all year round, some of the best in the area. In the summer the fantastic, newly renovated swimming pool area is truly luxurious, totally private and just heavenly on a nice day. In the winter months the large wood burner stove creates a wonderful cosy ambiance in the sitting room. It is also worth noting that a 5-10 min walk down the hill to the hamlet of Henley you will find the highly acclaimed Duke of Cumberland pub, winner of many prizes, including UK pub of the year! Outstanding often locally sourced food and ales, Sunday lunch is really superb!

What makes this house unique

Henley is a fantastic location for keen walkers and Hikers, its only a short drive away to the main south downs way. The house sits on the Serpents Trail network of footpaths, running from Haslemere to Petersfield. Meaning you can boot up and head out without getting in the car! The hiking is fantastic as we are within the South Downs national park area of outstanding natural beauty, I would be happy to share my local knowledge and point you in the right direction for local hikes/pub walks or just a stroll across the countryside! Within walking distance, or a very quick drive there is the local pub the Duke of Cumberland in Henley, Cowdray park clay shooting school, Cowdray polo lessons, The Banyan Indian restaurant (superb but booking advised) and many other fabulous country pubs!
