Modern home with space for multiple generations/groups
We are a family of four who love the island more than anything in the world. I was raised as a year round resident of the island, but am raising my family in the Boston area. We split our time between Boston and the Island and are thrilled to have built a home for our friends, family, and guests!
Liz purchased this House in 2016
Why Liz chose Oak Bluffs
The land on which this home was built was purchased in 1966 by Dorothy House, the great-grandmother of the current homeowner. Dorothy was an Oak Bluffs businesswoman who owned Dot’s Restaurant (now the Mad Martha’s location) and later Dot’s Snacks (now the Edgartown National Bank branch next to the Flying Horses). She lived for many years in a Gingerbread cottage at the end of Circuit Ave (now Cousin Rose Art Gallery). Her great-granddaughter remembers her fondly and is thrilled to have had the opportunity to turn the land purchased a half-century ago into a home shared by friends and family. In her memory, we have named this home Dot’s House.
What makes this House unique
This home has all the modern conveniences one would want in a vacation rental, while still honoring the charm of victorian architecture. We built this home with multiple groups in mind, which means there is plenty of room for everyone to be together, while still having private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms for everyone's enjoyment and relaxation. The home is in the perfect location: You can walk or bike to town and enjoy the hustle and bustle of OB, but return to the serenity of this home, which is nestled on a quiet street. The screened in porch provides a quiet enjoyment into the evening.

Fabulous vacation. The homeowner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. House has a ton of amenities and is super clean. It is a great location to town but extremely quit. Can’t wait to go again.
Great property for families and children. Liz was incredibly responsive and provided everything you would need for a pleasant stay. I highly recommend this house. My family had an amazing time.
I couldn't be happier with our stay! The house was gorgeous, spotless, and even more spacious than it looks in pictures. We had a big group for a girls' weekend and it didn't feel overcrowded at all. The house is also fully stocked with everything you can think of (beach chairs, extra toiletries, lawn games, etc.), so you don't need to lug anything on the ferry except your clothes.
Great home for family vacation
A wonderful home for a family vacation. Open concept kitchen was great to watch kids and cook at the same time. Tons of toys and beach gear already at home so we didn’t have to bring any of that stuff. Would come back again!
Fabulous home - neat, sparkling clean, gorgeously appointed, so comfortable
Dot's House is a gorgeous property. It is bright, airy and sparklingly clean. It has been decorated with great taste and kitted out really thoughtfully. The kitchen has literally each and every thing you can think of and require. The house is has everything and anything else you might need to entertain / take care of your family while at Martha's vineyard - board games, bicycles of all sizes, fishing rods, beach towels, extra toiletries, central temperature control. One of our favourite part of of the house was the screened in porch - with the most comfortable rocking chairs, surrounded by pine trees and oh so many birds chirping away. The other most favourite aspect of the house was how bright and airy it was - it caught the morning and afternoon sunlight from all angles. The walking path from the house to the centre of Oak Bluffs away from the traffic is so quiet and nice. Each bedroom and bathroom is well decorated, neat and clean. The beds were comfortable and the linens excellent and clean. The house has all the modern amenities and most of the time we didn't feel like leaving the house to go out! Liz, the owner, is most helpful and most responsive at all times. I highly recommend this superbly maintained home to all and would stay here again in a heartbeat whenever we return to Martha's Vineyard.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the house met your needs. The screened in porch is our favorite as well!
Could not have asked for a lovelier home. Six ladies celebrating a 70th birthday. Easy booking. Liz was so accommodating and answered my questions immediately. Clean, beautifully decorated. So comfortable. Everything was supplied. Would happily stay here again.
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and birthday celebration!
Our home is located .7 miles from the hustle and bustle of downtown Oak Bluffs. What makes this location unique is that you are a short walk or bike ride away from all that Oak Bluffs has to offer, yet far enough away to experience island peace and tranquility. During the day you can enjoy shopping on Circuit Ave, or jumping into the ocean at Inkwell beach, and then retreat back to the quite solitude of our screened in porch for an evening beverage. To get to town on foot, you will travel down a quiet residential dirt road and then across a park. No need to walk or bike on any major roads, which is great if you are with kids! Our house is also down a short dirt road to the County Road bike path, which connects to miles of island bike paths.
We are situated 2 miles from the Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority Terminal and 1 mile from the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority Terminal and the Island Queen /Hyline Ferry Dock.
