Surrounded by trees and heathland, and set above beautiful marshes with lovely footpath walks on the doorstep, Courtyard Cottage is a light and cosy 1 bedroom wing of the owners' house with private entrance, mediterranean style courtyard and its own parking space. It is set back off the road along a country track and the private courtyard is filled with trees, ferns and pots of flowers and herbs. Access to the owners' sauna by arrangement. A staircase leads to a raised sunny terrace and an off-road parking space.
The entrance from the courtyard is through a tiled hallway for coats, boots and outdoor shoes. The kitchen has an electric oven and ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge- freezer, coffee filter machine, toaster and kettle. French doors open to the sunny and leafy courtyard, perfect for breakfast, coffee, lunch and evenings outside. Leading off the kitchen, and up two steps, is a cosy sitting room with sofa, small armchair, TV, DVD player, books and board games.
A spiral staircase leads to the light and very spacious double bedroom with super king bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers and fitted wardrobe. The new ensuite bathroom has a bath, separate shower and heated towel rail. Good quality towels and bedlinen are provided.
Step outside the garden gate and you are on partially wooded heathland, one of four heaths around the village, from where you can have a lovely circular walk down to adjacent marshland and back through a small wood to the cottage without even crossing a road. Both the heath and marsh are managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust and are a haven for wildlife. Many species of birds including barn owl, heron, marsh harrier, egret and woodpecker may be seen. Lots of other walks along footpaths and lanes surround the cottage. It is also a great area for cycling - a few minutes from Route 1 of the National Cycle Network. Picturesque cycle ride to the sea on lanes and through a wood.
This is a beautiful and varied area of Suffolk, with heaths, marshes, beaches and forest. Just 5 minutes off the A12 down a country lane and less than 15 minutes' drive from the beaches of Southwold, Walberswick and Dunwich and the pretty village of Westleton. Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings and Orford are each half an hour's drive away. The attractive market town of Halesworth is only 10 minutes' drive away and has independent shops and coffee shops and monthly brocante and farmers' markets. There is also a small licensed village store for basic groceries and essentials just a five minute walk from the cottage across the heath. Good restaurants and pubs in the area and the popular
village pub, The Star is a 5 minute walk away.
Although the cottage is self-contained it is part of our home and we like to welcome guests on or soon after their arrival. We leave you to enjoy your stay and are available if you have any questions or if you need help with how things work in the cottage.
