About Jack and Kathy
Hosts John and Kathy have been Twin Cities area residents most of their lives, honeymooning on the North Shore and visiting frequently to this magical place. John retired from the US National Park Service as an interpretive ranger and Kathy is a retired financial advisor and professional artist. Over our years of enjoying all the North Shore of Lake Superior offers, we recognized a mystical call that we associated to the singing of the sirens of myth, the Lorelei. Each time that we visited their calling increased until we both realized that we must live on Lake Superior. Now retired, that dream has come true. We want to share the Lorelei with you, come sit by the shore and listen for their song, but be careful for Lake Superior can change you forever. She will haunt you to return, again and again!

Why Jack and Kathy chose Lutsen
Your hostess, Kathy Fox Weinberg, is a professional artist. KFox Studio, located on the property, is one of the finest studios on the North Shore. Kathy devotes her energy to painting the North Shore, art shows and teaching. Our home which was originally built in 1946, has been meticulously upgraded over the years while still maintaining the rustic charm of logs and cedar. A stones throw from the water yet high and protected, our home is numbered among the finest on Cascade Beach Road; the locals call it the Gold Coast. This cottage is in close proximity to the wilds of the north, the pleasures of fine candle light dining, and the captivating arts and activities of the Grand Marais area noted as the " coolest town in America".

Nice & quaint
Pros: Nice, quaint, clean and the owners were super friendly.
Cons: I assumed by the pictures listed on VRBO we were renting the cabin overlooking Lake Superior not the cabin behind. Just a little disappointed when arrived for our 25th anniversary and wasn't what we had planned on. Also the WiFi is horrible do to slow (almost dial up speed). Tried to catch up on some work items in the evening and struggled to stay connected. Also tried using HULU to catch MNF and that was a no go too.
On Tuesday the 15th after our guests had left a neighbor informed us that there was a downed tree on our lines from strong winds the day before. As the power company removed the tree it was noticed that the fiber optic cable which brings our internet was damaged. It was not severed but the coating was rubbed off and the optic was losing light (data transmission) It has been replaced and now operates again at full capacity. As to the location of the cottage and the lakeshore, the video on our site clearly shows the relationship of the cottage to our house and the lake. We encourage you to watch it before registering.
We had an amazing time. Lots of privacy, enjoyed Hrand Mariar. Definitely would do it again. Will tell family and friend's. Loved the big water and crashing waves. So cool!
Great Cottage on the Big Lake!
We stayed a long weekend and the cottage was cozy, clean, and well located. Great to sleep to the waves rhythmically hitting the shore. Jack, Kathy, & Sasha were great hosts.
Cottage on Lake Superior for a getaway was just what we needed. Serene and just a few miles from some great restaurants our hosts told us about. We would love to go back one day!!
Great Little cottage
The cottage was beautiful and the view was even better! We will recommend this place to anyone and we would love to come back sometime.
Perfect cottage for two
The Lorelei Cottage far exceeded our expectations, the location was perfect for us, situated right on lake superior, and is only minutes from Lutsen Mountatins, and just 15 minutes from Grand Marais. Jack and Kathy provided a very helpful book of recommendations for restaurants, things to do in the summer/winter, great views, must sees and so much more. We found this very helpful and so personable. We are so glad we stayed here and hope to be back next year :) Thank you so much for a very memorable stay at Lorelei!
