WELCOME TO THE BEACH! It is finally time time to relax. Take it easy for a while. Comfort, ease, and convenience are yours.

NEW POOL NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

This charming, elevated, beach cottage is one of the last original lowcountry elevated South Carolina beach cottages on the Isle of Palms. The house has been in our family since the early 1920s. It has seen a lot of history, including black-out curtains in World War II, a direct hit by Cat. 5 Hurricane Hugo in 1987, as well as hundreds of family vacations.

The house is across a small lane from the beach. It is only about a 3 minute walk through the sand dunes on a comfortable wide path to a nearly private beach. No commercial district. Very few people!

Enjoy the rocking chairs on a large front screened porch with partial ocean views. Go for a quiet walk on the nearly empty beach at night, watch the moon rise over the water, but try not to disturb the sea turtle nests.

Tongue-and-groove floors, walls, and ceiling were the traditional styles of beach construction in the early 1920s. We have updated the conveniences of the house while trying to maintain its original,

laid-back character. There is plenty of sand, with toys, under the house for children to enjoy when they are not on the beach. There are bicycles for you to enjoy during your stay.

We are conveniently close to historic downtown Charleston with incredible shopping, wonderful world-class restaurants, challenging golf, and numerous other entertainment options.

About Lex McGee

This house has been in my wife's family for four generations now. Originally

built in the early 1920. At that time, you came to the Isle of Palms on a ferry

across the harbor, then on a trolley than ran from Old Mt. Pleasant village across the marsh to Sullivan's Island and then onward across the Breech Inlet (H.L. Hunley confederate submarine fame) to the Isle of Palms. The house had 'black out curtains' on the front windows during WWII to prevent observation from German submarines that regularly patrolled the East coast.

My wife's family had regular homes in downtown Charleston and in Summerville, SC and moved to the island for the summer. We remember her grandmother saying that 'Honey, living in downtown Charleston before they invented that air conditioning machine was 'just almost intolerable.'

Great Location at an even greater price!

We LOVED our stay in this little gem of a beach cottage. Rustic yet charming it was the perfect place to relax with my family for a no fuss beach vacation. The new pool is awesome, a little small, but so nice to have a non-beach option on hot or stormy afternoons. The "playground" under the house is chock-full or bikes, beach toys, and even swings. My 3-year old niece was in heaven. The beach it literally across the street and we had the place to ourselves for most of the week. We left our chairs, canopy, etc. up for the first few days with no worries about anyone coming by and messing with our stuff. Was so nice to only have to lug-out all the big stuff once :) Seriously, this is a true Isle of Palms gem.

Perfect Spot!

This home is just perfect. Steps to the beach and a private pool our toddler loved to play in! What a special vacation for our family. So cozy and comfortable, we would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a perfect place to stay in Isle of Palms. We used the provided beach cruisers to get around the little town, we also rented a golf cart, which was so much fun! The owners of this property were also so helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. I could say nothing negative about this property or our experience while on vacation!

Perfect beach cottage !

Photos and description do not do this home justice! We arrived to find hotel quality linens, towels and toiletries! The house is filled with antiques that made us feel right at home.

The screened porch runs the entire length of the house, and the ocean breeze was relaxing We ate every meal on the porch. The beach iaccess s only steps away, and we had the beach to ourselves.

The owner was so friendly and helpful with every question we had. We are already looking forward to our next vacation to 409 Ocean Blvd.
