Wonderful House Overlooking Mareuil-sur-Lay
What a great house! It is a new build, so it has all the modern conveniences sometimes missing in older homes. Our family of four appreciated the two bathrooms and fully equipped chef's kitchen. There are three bedrooms so plenty of space to get away. The twin bedroom even has a loft with another bed perfect for a teenager. The kitchen opens into a dining area and large lounge space. Such a welcoming place to return to after a day out . However, the highlight was the patio in the back that overlooked Marseuil -- we spent most of our evenings playing cards, drinking wine, and watching the lights come on and stars come out. Wow!
The owners are superb hosts and lovely people. I highly recommend this property.
The property is stunning and Mareuil a typical small french town.
Being veterans of renting holiday apartments all over Europe I have to say that this is one of the better ones. There are a few things that could improve the experience: - the crockery and glassware is quite tired with chips on both. The front bedroom has no hanging space for clothes. Other than that a very spacious property with the added facility of watching English Freesat programs.
Perfect Vacation in a beautiful house
The house is very well situated on a small plateau above the small rural town of Mareuil sur Lay. From the terrace you have a stunning view over the roofs of Mareuil. All the rooms of the house, the terrace and the carport are on one level. The first bathroom has a huge bathtub, the second bathroom is barrier free. If need be you could use the house with a wheelchair. The furniture including the kitchen is new. Everything was clean and well maintained. Ian and Kate were extremely welcoming and friendly. We have already recommended the house to friends of ours. It is ideally located to explore La Vendée.
Beautiful Holiday Home
We enjoyed a lovely stay in this villa. It is spacious, well equiped, and even better than the photos. The owners, Ian and Kate were very helpful, and keen to ensure we had everything we needed. We loved the terrace, and were able to eat, and bbq outside most evenings, enjoying the stunning views. The sky tv, and wi-fi was popular too !
We visited 'Le Puy du Fou', (approx 1 hour away) which although seemed expensive initially was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, including 3 teenagers. The bird display was just fantastic. We would go again just for that.
A reminder that boys/men need 'speedo' style costumes for the local pool. The beaches, 30 mins + drive, were lovely with the added bonus of free parking.
Would happily recommend.
Like the Tardis ...
This house is like the Tardis - small and beautifully formed on the outside and wow! ENORMOUS when you walk inside.
It was excellent and very well appointed. Comfortable and clean throughout. Two bathrooms so no queueing. We enjoyed the terrace.
Realising we were short of wine just before dinner was not a problem - quick run to one of the four restaurants and bars nearby (the bar said yes we could buy a bottle to takeaway).
A brilliant base for families and friends.
The Vendee is a very popular holiday and second home destination for French and English alike. It has a lovely climate, with the 2nd highest average sunshine hours in France, beaten only by the Cote d'Azur. At the coast (a 20 minute drive away), there are beautiful long sandy beaches as well as the famous sailing port of Les Sables d'Olonne, and inland there are miles of unspoilt farming land among gently rolling hills. The beautiful and historic town of La Rochelle is only 40 minutes drive south and is definitely worth a visit.
Mareuil-sur-Lay is a thriving small town, dominated by an impressive church and château, and known for its local wines. It has a supermarket, a good selection of small shops and several restaurants and bars. Lucon, 8 miles south, has a wider range of shops, hypermarkets and restaurants, and La Roche sur Yon, 15 miles north, is the departmental capital.
