About Patrick and Jacki Poovey
Hi! Welcome to our home on Oak Island! We are a fun family of five with three active teenage boys and a furry friend too! Since we are dog lovers, we welcome your well behaved, non-chewing, house-trained dog, too.
Patrick and Jacki Poovey purchased this House in 2011
Why Patrick and Jacki Poovey chose Long Beach
One look at the charming 1960's cottage out in the backyard and we were all hooked. The nostalgia will take you right back to the family beach trips during your childhood, or even drum up some memories of summer camp! Flip Out Flop Down may not have the finest finishes, but it is clean, neat and well cared for. The location cannot be beat! Just steps to the Island Way Restaurant and Ocean Crest Pier. Only 11 miles to the charming town of Southport, NC where you can catch a ferry to Fort Fisher where they have a great aquarium for the kids.
What makes this House unique
Charter a deep sea fishing trip, or a jet ski for the day. If you like to take it easy, the west end of the island is a great place to find sand dollars and shells. Had a great Labor Day weekend stay at this property. Really enjoyed the pool area - pool and backyard are a good size and we loved hanging under the lighted gazebo. There is a small putting green so you could bring your putter with you. We had two families there and it was nice being able to have your own areas. My brother enjoyed having the Cottage to himself! Just note that the downstairs bedroom/bathroom is separate from the upstairs rooms/kitchen, which we did not mind. No complaints about the house - biggest draw was the pool/backyard and being across the street from the beach. Would definitely stay again - thanks Patrick and Jacki!
Great place to enjoy a week at the beach.
Our family (six adults and one child) had an excellent time at this house. Inside, it’s sunny and comfortable with beds and bathrooms everywhere. It’s unique to have room for so many people and still have some privacy. The outdoor shower is nicer than some indoor showers. It’s steps from the beach. And the view of the stars from the front deck is gorgeous. The real jewel of this house is the backyard pool and pool area. It’s a big pool with plenty of seating around it. Shade is even available for those who need it while still spending time with the family. I would recommend it to anyone looking to accommodate a large group with varied interests and schedules.
Our first time using VRBO, and this home did not disappoint! It is in a wonderul location that is super close to a beach access, and the pool is an added bonus! The owners could not have been nicer! Would highly recommend this property!
Oak Island, NC
We loved it! The house was clean and we had everything we needed. The owner is easily reachable and really nice. We will recommend it anytime. You feel like home in the house it’s so cozy.
We have been going to Oak Island for many years as a family. We have stayed at several properties with pools and returned based on size needed but this was by far the best property. The pool and the patio area were amazing! Felt like a resort. Short walk to beach access. Front deck was excellent for coffee in the morning. Kitchen had everything we needed and we used the grill. Teen cottage was adorable. Beds and bedding very comfortable. Washer and dryer worked great. Owners were very inviting and wanted us to enjoy our stay. Best family vacation!
Come and enjoy our colorful, relaxing and comfortable home just steps away from the ocean at one of America's best beaches. USA Today's May 25, 2012 travel feature named Oak Island one of 51 GREAT AMERICAN BEACHES.....NORTH CAROLINA: "The state's coastline is one long, 300 mile beach: The trick is finding a stretch that's not so remote you have to bring your own drinking water, or so over run by T-shirt huts and putt-putts that you want to flee. Oak Island, south of Wilmington, has a nice blend of basic amenities and miles of open beach. There's great kayaking on the sound side, a transportation system friendly to bikes, and small town atmosphere."
