Beautiful location
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of Tuscany, off the beaten track but close to interesting places where you can walk, do 'culture' and eat great food. The restaurant in the village 'Il Refugio' is a must visit - great food and reasonably priced.
Our kids loved swimming in the pool. The accommodation had all the basics, and was good value for money. Thank you Lucia!
Lovely location and host but needs a bit of work
The house is in a lovely location with nearby village of Lama nearby and other little villages to explore as well as nice hiking areas. The swimming pool is also nice although a little on the cold side if you have small children. The outside eating area is nice in the garden.
The host Lucia is lovely and has just got the right balance of being around if you need her but mainly respecting your privacy which is great.
The house itself is nice upstairs. However, we found that it was quite dirty with a lot of dust and cobwebs around the whole house and downstairs particularly was pretty dusty and dirty and also felt quite damp as it is in a basement. The downstairs is where the bedrooms and bathroom is and I'm not exaggerating when I say that we dreaded getting into bed at night as it felt dirty and damp. I feel bad about writing this in a review as the host was lovely but I definitely wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend it. I am not someone that has really high expectations regarding cleanliness and I'm not a particularly tidy person, just in case you thought I was fussy. Both my children had coughs on a night here and I think this is due to the dust. All that the host needs to do to improve her property is hire a cleaner. It was just things like the BBQ was filthy and the previous people who came obviously hadn't cleaned it after using but this should have been checked by the host. It's not pleasant having to scrub someone else's bits of meat off the rack. I know you can't expect luxury for the price but I would expect somewhere to be clean.
I am very surprised, first because the water temperature of the pool in late July was 28-29 degrees (of course if it rains for a couple of days it goes down a degree or two) and second because all the dust and dank have not bothered anyone else in 5 years of rent, not even the family that was here in June, when it rained almost every day.
Peace, perfect peace!
This is a great barn set in perfect surroundings. It is a very 'natural' building which was clean. The wifi works perfectly. The owner, Lucia, lives next door and is available when you need help but otherwise leaves you to it - which I find perfect for a peaceful holiday. Not only was she kind and helpful but her dog Mini was a delight! The pool was fabulous and the views from it were to die for. In fact, the views from all around the barn were amazing. We visited nearby Caprese Michelangelo and Anghiari which were all very interesting. There is a Spar in Lama where the ladies are really delightful, fussing over the children and allowing them to try the cheeses/meats before buying. If you need more provisions, nearby Sansepolcro has a massive Co-op. This is a very unspoilt part of Tuscany - we loved it. I hope to return to the barn very soon.
I'm always very happy when my renters love the same things that convinced me to live here: peace, tranquility, silence, the magnificent starry skies, the beautiful landscape and the total lack of mass tourism.
Found the location idyllic and peaceful
Found the location idyllic and peaceful as the hole South Toscany, near so many famous towns of Umbria and Toscany to sightsee.
The barn was well equipped with all the necessity a family of 4 needs while on holiday, my boys loved the pool and the views of hill Michelangelo Caprese.
The owner was kind and very helpful during our stay and I wish her the very best and success for the future.
I'm sure I will be coming back if we decide to visit this area again.
I would like to mention that at walking distance of 20 minutes max, there is a fantastic restaurant named "Il Rifugio" where food is divine and steaks to die for at a very reasonable prices, which in now days you can dream about... remember to bring a torch with you as on the way back at night, it's very useful (you are in a remote countryside)
Surprised that this area of "Lama" di Caprese Michelangelo has not picked up with lots of tourism but relieved at the same time....
Sono sempre contenta quando vedo i miei ospiti rilassarsi nel verde e nella quiete e quando apprezzano la buona cucina e i panorami di questa zona.
Lovely place
Stayed a week in october 2011. The barn is well restored, comfortable, heated and clean. The owner was very helpful and had some good tips on where to go.
We definitely recommend to anyone who wants a quiet holiday in the Tuscan countryside.
We have worked hard to restore our barn, trying to keep everything he had originally, I am happy that my guests like the ancient atmosphere and the peace and quiet of this place.
Ein Ort zum Erholen.
Wir haben die Tage im Häuschen in Caprese Michelangelo sehr genossen!
Location
The campaign of Caprese and nearby areas is still very natural, rivers, large forests of chestnut and beech trees, numerous small and beautiful medieval villages to visit, excellent restaurants that cook truffles, mushrooms, wild boar and local chestnuts. Many walks with beautiful views. Very quiet, cool and breezy even in the warmest periods in the village tennis courts, shops, bars and takeaways.
