Welcome to our newly acquired home in Azille. Ken and I chose to purchase our home in the ancient part of the medieval village of Azille following some very happy holidays here with wonderful local friends. We plan on spending several months of the year here, but while we are away we invite you to share the warmth and joy of this delightful location and home. More photos will follow when our decorating is finished in the next couple of weeks.
Azille offers a quiet location very close to the Canal du Midi reached through the next village a few kilometers away. We have a Friday market where you can buy wonderful fresh produce, meats and poultry and delicious cooked sweets and savouries.
On Tuesday you can shop at the extensive local market in Olonzac, or travel to Narbonne 40 minutes away for the Thursday and Saturday markets. There is also a permanent food market in Narbonne. If you do not want to drive, rent a bicycle - we have safe bicycle storage in our cave at the lower level of our house accessed from both inside and outside the house.
Ken will attest to the fact that Azille is situated well for short and long bike rides - he disappears for several hours at a time on his bike! Enjoy riding along the Canal du Midi on mountain bikes, or head up into the mountains and enjoy peaceful villages and a more challenging ride.
The village boasts a traditional French bar - Bar Artistes, where if you are lucky you might hit a karaoke night! In addition there is a wine bar and art gallery, a Boulanger, Epicierie, and two restaurants, one of which is set on the grounds of a local farm within walking distance of the village. You can drink as much wine as you like and stroll home.
Beaches are only a 40 minute drive away - close to Narboone, but if you want to swim in a lake, windsurf or take a sailing boat out we have a lake just outside the village.
Our home is one of character! You will see that as a very old and evolving house house each room has a shape of its own. Enter our home into a large dining room which leads into the compact kitchen and down to the living room. From the living room please be careful taking the steps down into the cave where we keep the washers and dryer. We have a small washing machine for smaller loads, and a full size brand new washer and dryer for regular loads. I prefer to dry my clothes on the terrace in the sunshine. There is an extremely efficient wood-burning stove in the living room.
The first of two shower rooms is located off the kitchen. Yes, we thought that was odd too. We have plans to change that and extend the kitchen. Upstairs on the next level are two bedrooms and a shower room located off a large landing which also functions as a study area for me. One bedroom is a double, and the second bedroom is a twin room. Take the stairs to the top level and the glorious terrace. The third very private bedroom is located off the terrace. This is the room Ken and I chose as our own. We hope you will enjoy the views from this room, and relax in the peace of the birdsong.
We have a plancher on the terrace instead of a BBQ. We find it cooks food better, more evenly and without any carcinogens like charcoal. We hope you will enjoy the sunbeds and the lovely tiled outdoor table with chairs. The evening sun is particularly lovely approaching sunset from up here.
In summary we offer you:
- 3 bedrooms
- 2 shower rooms
- Extremely well equipped kitchen
- Cave with laundry facilities and safe bicycle storage
- English and French television
- Free high-speed internet
- Fabulous terrace with views
We welcome families but please remember we have open stone stair cases so our home is not really suitable for toddlers. If you want to bring babies you will need to bring your own cot, high-chair etc. We do not provide anything for children.
I hope you will enjoy your stay.
