L'Etable was once a milking parlour that has been converted into two beautiful two bedroom cottages. The other cottage is called L'Ecurie (sleeps 4). About Peta Cheshir
We are a british family and dog who have lived here since 2002. We love the laid back way of life and the activities that we can practice here - walking, cycling, kayaking, running, motor cycling and roller hockey. The weather is good too !
Peta Cheshir purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Peta Cheshir chose Thury-Harcourt
We fell in love with our house as soon as we saw it so made the purchase and moved to France to start our adventure in 2002. Next door to our house is La Porcherie the romantic cottage for two. The other properties - La Fermette, L'Ecurie and L'Etable are just 100m up the road. These were purchased in 2010 as a renovation project. All are now finished and ready to rent.
What makes this Cottage unique
The properties are set in beautiful French countryside, it is very calm and peaceful except for the birdsong. However the local town is not far away for all your supplies and the lovely city of Caen is only 40 minutes drive.

Peace and Tranquility
We returned from a wonderful week's stay at the end of August. We had a lovely time and were made to feel very welcome by Peta, Jason and Harvey the dog. The spot is very peaceful and tranquil. We stayed with our three children and relatives stayed in the smaller gite. The children had the run of the field and could play safely. The gites were very clean and comfortable and our daughter particularly enjoyed the small lizards that lived beneath the rocks. We used the gites as a base to travel to the Normandy beaches and explore some family history, It was ideal for this.
Superb scenic place for a quiet holiday
A quality holiday property run by Peta and Jason, the owners. Lots of nice little touches which add to the experience. The owner's local knowledge made the holiday complete, with some excellent suggestions on things to do and places to visit.
Thury Harcourt nearby has good facilities, and it's ideally placed to see the Normandy coast and the city of Caen. We have been here several times and look forward to the next time too!
The cottages are in a fantastic area for outdoor pursuits such as cycling, walking, horse riding, golf, fishing, climbing and kayaking. Bring your bikes if you can! (Mountain bikes can be hired in Thury-Harcourt if you can't). We even have a roller skating rink in the village for roller hockey. We are close to many historical sites such as the chateau in Falaise, Bayeux (tapestry), the Normandy landing beaches, Pegasus bridge, the chateaux and abbeys in Caen. Nearby are the lovely seaside towns of Trouville, Deauville and Honfleur and further inland we have the pretty towns/villages of Pont d'Ouilly, Clecy, Domfront, Caen, Flers and Falaise. The Normandy scenery is stunning and there are beautiful rivers, gorges, forests, lakes and miles of sandy beaches for you to explore. Normandy is famous for its cider production, calvados and pommeau, the cheeses of Camembert and Pont L'Eveque, local goats cheese, cream and honey. You can try and buy the produce direct from the farms. For the children there are lots of theme parks, zoo's, maize mazes in summer, tree top adventure parks, velo rail, swimming pools, ice skating, boating, fishing, walks, climbing, museums, beaches and lakes. We also offer free guided tours to guests arriving on their motorcycles, babysitting, kids activities, guided walks and French lessons.
