About Lara Mellor
Hi. Andy and Lara here! You are bound to meet us and our 2 little miniature poodles during your stay as we live in the main house at the front of the property. We are always pleased to answer any questions you have about the local area or generally just stop for a chat. Although we only moved to Warwkorth in 2016 we have been holidaying in the area for many years and often find we can give the original locals ideas on where to go!! We moved from busy West London and are loving the slower pace of life, friendly people and wide open areas Northumberland has to offer. We look forward to meeting you.
Lara Mellor purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Lara Mellor chose Warkworth
We are situated in the centre of the village about as close to all the local amenities as it is possible to be. Being walking distance to the beach is another huge plus for us. It is amazing to see the changes from season to season or even day to day. The studio is part of an original 1800's barn and still retains the exposed stone walls in parts of the property.
What makes this Cottage unique
Guests have shared use of the large walled garden. Being directly on a regular bus route means taking the car out every day is not a necessity. There is also a lot to do directly in the village. Nearby Amble offers boat trips and a harbour. And you can even walk 6 miles along the beach to the next village Alnmouth.

Really lovely area beach is stunning. Apartment is ideal, we had a very good stay. The area is ideal for exploring Northumberland. and so easy to walk to many places.
This was our first visit to Northumbria and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect base. The apartment was modern, spotlessly clean, cosy - just what we needed after a day enjoying the surrounding area. Warkworth itself is lovely with a castle one end of the street and an ancient bridge over the Coquet river at the other. There are two very good pubs within yards of the property as well as a very well stocked shop and several other eateries, which meant that once you'd parked up in the square there was no need to go out again if you didn't want too. We toured the area for a week and without doubt in our mind Warkworth village is the most appealing as a base. Admittedly we were lucky that the castle was a riot of daffodils, the sun shone and the rain held off. We wouldn't hesitate to return to Lara's apartment in the future.
A lovely part of the world
This is a lovely part of the world and I don't know how we've missed it on previous trips to Northumberland. The beaches are imense, very accessible and dog-friendly. Excellent bird watching, good food and pubs and if you're a member of English Heritage so many castles and other sights to see. Warkworth castle is particularly impressive and the Hermitage, accessed by rowing boat is unique, but only open Sundays and Mondays. The apartment was perfect - well equiped, spacious, comfortable and quite private. We struggled a bit with parking as the Council had closed several parking areas due to some restoration work, but I asume this was only a temporary problem. Being able to stop outside the property to load and unload, despite double yellow lines is very helpful and the system of doors and gates into the garden make it quite manageable. A lovely stay - highly recommended.
What a busy stay you had. I’m sorry you had a problem parking. There are water works currently taking place in the village which are temporary but have lead to some parking restrictions. We got a parking permit for our guests to enable them to park in the residents only parking which provided parking by the river which we hope you found helpful.
A very nice clean and tidy apartment. Central to all the amenities in the village. Everything you need to explore Northumberland. Great pubs on the doorstep that served lovely food. Would deffinately stay again.
I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. Being central is really helpful when you have the cold weather and windy conditions we have had recently!
Lovely clean apartment.Central Warkworth. Perfect for the dog.
Perfect for a weekend getaway. Lara is really friendly and helpful. Fab garden space. Perfect if you have a dog. We stayed in the upstairs apartment which felt spacious. Had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend
This was a well equipped property with all your basic needs in mind! Lovely little town with a great local pub and some good near by sites and beach’s to visit! Lara was very helpful and responsive and made sure we were happy during our stay.
We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Being right in the centre of the village our cottages are in a fantastic location for everything Warkworth has to offer. There are plenty of varied activities nearby too. Kind regards Lara
Warkworth is a great base for many outdoor activities with its many beaches, rivers and the Cheviot Hills all nearby. If you are planning on bringing your 4 legged friend then the beaches are dog friendly all year round as are many of the bars and cafes. Local attractions not to be missed are Warkworth Castle (one of many castles in the area - there must be about a dozen) and the Hermitage. Alnwick Castle and Gardens are only 10 minutes away. For any history buffs, as well as the castles, Hadrians wall is nearby. Don't miss the boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses. If you go in the summer you'll see the puffins and get dive bombed by the Arctic terns - so don't forget your hat!! In the Autumn you should see the baby seals. There are plenty of great places to eat and drink. The Ship Inn at Low Newton sits in a lovely square and even has it's own microbrewery. If it's seafood you are after The Old Boathouse in Amble is the place to go. People travel from miles away to pop in for tea and cake at the Cafe Bertrams in the village. The Northumbrians are a friendly bunch and there is always a warm welcome wherever you go.
