Rose and Findlay Erskine came to Williamscraig, in 1999, and moved into one of the old farm cottages, which we renovated over a six month period. We didn’t have much money, so decided to do the work our self’s, and worked every night, and every weekend to get it back into a condition it could be lived in. We then renovated one of the farm buildings then moved into it and rented out the cottage, slowly started to convert all the farm buildings into the accommodation your are staying in today. The first three cottages (Rose Honeysuckle, and Appletree cottages) were built in 2010 , and the second development where built in 2014 (Laurel, Beech and Eden cottages) which was an eco build, with a ground source heat pump, 10 Kw’s of solar panels, wood fibre insulation, and a clay block construction.
Findlay Erskine purchased this cottage in 2012
The Cottages look really old as there built using stone and slate roofs with cast iron gutters, but are new inside with the latest insulation standards which make them very warm. We have a new swing park outside to keep the kids of the screens. There are lots of things to do for all ages and will keep any group occupied for weeks, including Edinburgh on our door step, the Scottish mountains, the sea side, and some great visits.
All the Cottages have their own bubbling Jacuzzi hot tub for you and your family/friends to enjoy. , which are a big hit, plus a badger cam so you can see our local badgers
Lovely clean, modern, spacious accomodation in a beautiful tranquil spot. Reasonably priced. Very well equipped and extremely helpful owners. Would definitely book again!
Four of us regularly head out for trips together, exploring previously unvisited areas. Neil, who's from Jersey, had never visited Scotland before, so there was a lot to live up to!
Honeysuckle Cottage was a truly brilliant find - spotlessly clean, beautifully designed, well-equipped and in a great location. (Close to all the major attractions in the region but half a mile up a private road, so well away from traffic and noise).
We could not have chosen better. Findlay was welcoming and helpful - typified by the cottage, which has plenty of tourist information available. Our only 'criticism' is that the site doesn't make enough of the fact that the master bedroom is en-suite - so a real bonus!
Perfect location for Edinburgh, Glasgow and all local attractions. Cottage of 5 star quality throughout, with every need catered for. Hot tub great!! Findlay great host from beginning to end of our stay. Would recommend Rose cottage to family and friends. Hope it is'nt too long till our next visit.
We stayed here in 2011 and loved it so much we came back. We have friends and family in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, so its a perfect location for both (30 mins to the centre of Edinburgh and about 45--50 to Glasgow), whilst allowing you to get out of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Our 2 children (3 years and also 8 months) loved being here, both inside and out and the swings/slide are a nice addition. The cottage is brilliantly furnished and you dont really need to bring the bulky things as a family, as stair gates, high chairs, travel cots and some toys/games are all provided. There is even some childrens plates/cutlery. Generally they are also very well finished throughout with everything you could need in the kitchend, towels and bedding etc, making for a very comfortable stay.
The hot tub is an excellent addition for the end of the day when the children were in bed, regardless of whether it was raining or not, a great idea.
Overall, having stayed here twice, we loved it, Findlay is a great host/owner and will always help or offer advice if you need something. We will come back, and we have recommended it to various people and will continue to do so. Its a bit of a find really, good location, good value, lovely cottages!
Thanks and hope to come back soon!!
What can I say...Rose Cottage is just fantastic!!
Five girls celebrating the youngest's 30th Birthday...we had an absolute ball! The cottage has everything you could need from DVDs, a lovely wood burning fire, all the kitchen utensils you could think of and cleaning products to and of course the all important hot tub!!
Findlay was an absolute star showing us where everything was on arrival, recommending a takeaway, and probably most importantly putting up with our laughing and gossiping in the hot tub on Saturday evening!!
On a serious note would have no hesitation in recommending these cottages to anyone, and in fact have already done so. Fantastic location, fantastic set up and fantastic host. Hope to visit again sometime...if Findlay will have us back!!
Keep up the great work!!
Just back from spending a brilliant Christmas week in Rose Cottage. The accommodation is indeed luxurious and even more spacious than the website photos suggest. Owner Findlay was very friendly, thorough and helpful before and during our stay and made a great effort to make our Christmas very special with a lovely decorated tree and extra logs for the welcoming stove. The location is very good with excellent walking from the front door or a convenient drive to further afield beauty spots such at he Trossachs. Everything you need is here for a complete holiday in comfort although it would have been nice to have a simple radio and CD player. The Hot tub was brilliant at night. We would definitely return to Rose Cottage and have no hesitation in recommending it. Thanks Findlay for making us so welcome and so comfortable.

PS do hope you can get the neighbours to fill in those pot holes on last 50 yards of drive!!!
