The Boat House Loft of Cape Cod ~ Amazing Waterfront Location
About Laurance Held
King and Laurance are your hosts at the Boat House Loft. "KING" is a Great Dane/Black Lab mix ....a sweet, gentle giant if ever there was one. For your peace of mind, we are also your neighbors - delighted to offer assistance 24/7 to help make your stay more enjoyable & memorable. Always happy to answer your questions or make recommendations. Laurance is a big animal lover (both dog & cat) and is willing to assist you in choices of destinations that are dog friendly, including popular dog hikes, a gorgeous north side beach in Dennis that not only accommodates your puppy during the summer season (sandy dog heaven!), but also has no daily parking fee. Also, outdoor restaurants, great dog walks, super dog parks (with spoiled pooch drinking fountains) and much more. We do not charge a Pet Fee! What animal lover would?
Why Laurance Held chose Dennis Port
The Boat House Loft is located at the end of a winding country road. It is quiet and peaceful, yet not too far from the Mid-Cape Highway (exit 9), making it a perfect jumping off point for anywhere on Cape Cod - east or west, north or south. This "mid-cape" location is almost equally distant from either Provincetown or Woods Hole. A perfect central location. We're only 90 minutes from either the Boston, MA or Providence, RI metro areas. Thirty minutes from the canal - double lane highway all the way. Major stores, including a Stop & Shop supermarket, are located at the exit 9 intersection (about 2 miles away).
What makes this Cottage unique
We love and adore our pets! Feel free to bring your four legged family member along on vacation. Don't leave them home in a kennel - they need a vacation, too! We are pet friendly to well trained dogs and neutered kitty-cats. The quarter-mile walk down the lane and back is perfect for those early morning and evening walks.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Larry’s boathouse was absolutely perfect for the two of us and our two dogs. Larry thought of everything that could be needed and provided it, including towels just for the dogs and a tiny life preserver for our Maltese, Tiger. After less than a ten minute paddle in the two provided kayaks, Max (Corgi) and Tiger absolutely loved frolicking on a private beach out on the big island across the lake, which was a wonderful way to spend Labor Day!
After that I took a solo paddleboard (provided) trip down the lake at dusk. Heavenly. One day we did an 18 mile round trip bike ride to Guapos for tacos and Margaritas, most of which was on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The boathouse really has it all: huge bedroom, full kitchen, bath (tiny shower), and all-windows front porch overlooking the lake, with dining for two and a great reading divan. This is all on second floor with tight stairs. Outside is your own 6 foot “beach”, lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs, and a dining table with umbrella and grill. If you don’t mind old and a bit rustic, though absolutely clean and well-running, you will love this boathouse off the beaten path!
TV, Wi-Fi, coffeemaker, micro, toaster oven, linens, towels, soap, and spring water all provided : )
Quiet and peaceful
While this property is not fancy, it makes up for it’s rustic aspects with peaceful serenity. It was lovely to sit by the water and listen to the birds while watching the activity on the pond. The outdoor equipment options were great. Larry, the owner was helpful but also gave us our privacy. All appliances and lights worked. The bed was quite firm. Those who like a soft bed may want a pad to put on the mattress. As advertised, the shower is quite small. The floor is flexible and feels uneven. The water pressure is good and we never ran out of hot water. The AC was able to keep the bedroom cool. Parts of Cape Cod were hit by tornados during our stay and the property was damaged. This necessitated an early return home. I would be happy to stay there again, in the future. HOWEVER, THE TRAVEL INSURANCE I BOUGHT, THROUGH HOME AWAY, IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO COLLECT ON AND MAKES NUMEROUS DEMANDS FOR INFORMATION, WHICH SHOULD BE READILY AVAILABLE CONSIDERING THE OWNER HAS REPORTED THE DAMAGE TO HOME AWAY/VRBO. I AM LEFT WITHOUT A VACATION AND WITHOUT MY FUNDS.
Peaceful Place on the water
Pro's: Location is secluded with great views of the water, but close enough to restaurants, stores etc. Laurence is very friendly and responsive. Easy access to the water with kayaks that were in good condition. We loved kayaking in this area. Veranda room is relaxing with lovely views. Price is terrific, and pet friendly. Con's: The Loft could be even more charming with some new appliances in kitchen, a remodel of the bathroom, and some paint and window touch ups. Otherwise a budget and pet friendly place to stay with wonderful water access and views.
Boat House Loft - a whole different Cape feel!
Laurence met us upon arrival, as he lives on the extended property and was so helpful in providing info for us to the area and recommendations as to beaches and dog friendly spots. The properties on this little peninsula were set tighter than I expected, and worried initially that my dog would disturb others with some barking, especially his first night during his initial adjustment to house, but all the other residents had dogs as well and did not seem to be bothered. Moby, our Great Pyrenees loved to sit at the water's edge and watch the water fowl all day! This is a rustic location and feel that we loved and were very comfy and would love to come back next year!
Super waterfront location
Although the building is a little rough, the accommodations were Great!! The glassed porch was fantastic, and we even got to see the Swans, with there 5 signets, gliding by. Very serine and beautiful.
The weather was very windy, but we enjoyed our stay very much.
Anniversary vaca review
The general stay was ok, but we ended up leaving a day early due to being uncomfortable at the house. The house, itself, is located in a great area- private beach to launch canoes/kayaks. Plenty of seating in the yard to enjoy relaxing outside and lots of room for our dog to run around. The house is located at the very end of a dirt road and not far from the main shops and restaurants. The house, however, is located in between 3 other houses- 1 of the houses belongs to the landlord of the Boat Loft. While we did not see him at all during our stay, it would have been nice to know he would be present on the grounds within 25 feet from us. Inside, the house needed cleaning. The front porch area was decked in cob webs and it seemed the ants liked being inside more than outside. To be fair, we were warned of the ants "in the kitchen," but never about them being in EVERY room. The garbage barrel was covered in dirt and stains. The bathroom needed a complete remodel- the laminate on the sink was creasing and bubbling. There were old, dried up sponges left on the windowsills in the kitchen. The only room with shades/blinds is the bedroom. The canoe was dented on one end (although it still worked). The data on my phone worked better than connecting to the wi-fi. My vacation was booked for Friday late afternoon to Monday morning- we stayed til Sunday morning. Landlord seemed very nice and was helpful with pointing us in the direction of fun activities, but I feel like the house was thrown together last minute. Maybe, because it's still the off-season, he didn't feel it necessary to make it presentable.
We welcome all reviews, whether accurate or not. A few unhappy individuals are compulsively negative by nature and would find fault with a rainbow.
