Relax and unwind in the natural beauty that is Puna. Our Hawaiian style plantation hale is nestled on an acre in beautiful Hawaiian Paradise Park. Centrally located between old Pahoa town and Keaau where shopping, dining, gasoline and markets are less than ten minutes from your front door. Once at the hale you will feel as though you have been transported to Old Hawaii - there are no resorts or white sand beaches here just the aloha spirit. You may feel far away from everything but are actually only minutes from everywhere you want to be on the east side of the Big Island.
You are centrally located to every major natural attraction in the Puna and Volcanoes districts of the Big Island. Want to watch the sun set into the ocean and the lava flow at night? Drive fifteen minutes and you will be able to do both from the same location. If you are really adventurous you can hike to where the lava flows into the ocean for a very special light show. Rejuvenating thermal ponds and multiple tide pools with spectacular coral and sea life are ten minutes from your hale. Beautiful Kehena Black Sand Beach is just twenty minutes away. Volcanoes National Park which boasts the island's best hiking is 25 miles away. Famous for its sea turtle population, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach is a short and scenic one hour drive. Green Sand Beach and South Point are also within reach just beyond the Kau Desert at the edge of Volcanoes National Park.
Our hale is comfortably appointed in island style furnishings with the emphasis on comfort and modern amenities. Nine foot high open beam ceilings, pine walls, and real wood flooring in the main living space provide a very attractive environment. Each bedroom has real wood flooring and ceiling fans. Each bath has a tub shower, pedestal sink and tile flooring.
Enjoy the lovely sea breeze from the large screened-in lanai that allows for outdoor relaxation where you can watch the sunrise in the morning or the moon rise at night and star gaze without leaving the comforts of home. The yard has a mini orchard with mango, starfruit, lychee, breadfruit and citrus trees.
I love Puna and hope you do too.
Tamara Norrbom purchased this house in 2005
I built Hale Hulili in 2005. She was originally constructed in Nanawale Estates but was moved to Hawaiian Paradise Park during the great Lava Scare of 2014 where she now rests on one acre just one mile from the shoreline.
I designed the hale and had it built to my specifications so I find it a very enjoyable and comfortable place.
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. It is well-stocked with kitchen gear, linens, and two beach towels. There are two spacious bedrooms, with an en-suite bathroom off the master bedroom and an additional bathroom down the hall. We stayed here comfortably with our family of four. The home was very clean and updated. The best part of the entire home is by far the enclosed and covered lanai. We spent MANY afternoons and evenings just relaxing in the comfortable patio furniture in the nice breeze. There is good internet in the home and Dish network television. Our family truly enjoyed our extended stay in this lovely home. The only downside is that the yard is all lava rock and there are no large established trees for shade. However, this is clear from the pictures and there are many trees planted to provide shade in the future. The homeowner, Tamara, was very helpful throughout our stay and responded to our communications quickly. Thank you for making your home available to us, Tamara! We highly recommend this home to others.
We chanced upon this Hale very last minute in our trip-planning and lucked out completely.
Only several blocks away from the ocean and amazing scenic drives at every turn. The Hale itself is spacious and offers cottage comfort. We slept a family of four, including our two small children, very comfortably with plenty of amenities (full kitchen, two full baths, washer/dryer, screened-in patio) to make us feel at home. Details such as a nightlight in the bathroom, weren't overlooked!
Short drives every day gave us plenty of local adventure. We never went further than an hour by car and filled our two week stay with new things to see every day. Locally, the small village of Pahoa has some fantastic, casual restaurants and we loved shopping at their Natural Foods Store for health food items we never expected to buy on an island! The Maku-U Market (held on Sunday's,despite old signage!) was one of our favourite local hang-outs with great prepared food, fresh local produce and misc vendors selling everything from home-made lai's to vintage clothing to tropical plants.
A bit tricky to find comfortable beaches with small children, but eventually we found many shallow tide pool parks before reaching Richardson Beach Park in Hilo. Along the strip to Richardson Beach Park, you have your choice of several ocean-side places to swim safely with children and enjoy colourful fish. Waterfalls are also easy trips for young and old; Akaka Falls being one of the most scenic with a well laid out path through the rainforest.
The best bonus of the trip is an accommodating, welcoming host who is most helpful and quick to respond to questions.
Absolutely, highly recommended for a fresh take on a Hawaiian vacation.
This property is as advertised, clean and neat with all the basic needs met. The owner is super helpful and very on top of any issues. This is in the Puna rainforest and the area is very lush, as a result of all the rain! But mostly it rains at night. Expect to be damp and hot with some cooling In the evening and the coqui frogs a'singing. Great jumping off point for visiting the rest of Puna, Volcano, Kapoho. Couldn't have asked for a better, house, good ventilation, ceiling fans, phone and internet, washer and dryer, screening, up off the ground so no "pets" came into the house except for a few geckos. Comfortably furnished, nice yard.
Body boarding, surfing, swimming, snorkeling are all minutes from your front door.
