Gites dans les Champs, situated in beautiful countryside in Poitou-Charentes, offers three spacious gites of a very high standard. The gites can be rented individually or as a group, sleeping up to 20.
Ideally located for walking, cycling, kayaking and horse riding. With a fenced, in-ground swimming pool and sun terrace, set in three acres of private parkland.
Each gite has access to Wi-Fi Internet, together with French TV and a selection of DVDs. A relaxing environment to spend time with family and friends. We are a 5 minute drive (or a short bike ride) to the local supermarket (SuperU) and boulangeries. There is a selection of bikes available for guests use.
This property, La Chouette, is approached via its own wide garden path. This impressive gite is entered through large glazed French doors opening into a magnificent atrium which rises to full height from a patterned tiled floor to magnificent oak roof timbers and a galleried landing.
Accommodating 8 people, the spacious open plan living area comprises kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. The kitchen is generously equipped with dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave and gas cooker. The lounge and dining areas are well furnished with carefully selected local items to give an authentic flavour.
In addition to the glazed entrance doors, there are two further French doors leading onto the courtyard. Also on the ground floor is a pretty twin-bedded room and a bathroom of “wet-room” design, comprising shower, washbasin and WC and non-slip floor tiles, heated towel rail and fully tiled walls. Upstairs by way of an attractive hardwood staircase are three further bedrooms with attractive chestnut flooring and a second bathroom.
There are two double bedrooms and a twin-bedded room, each furnished in local dark oak furniture, providing ample storage, and with views across fields to the ancient village of Vaussais and its 11th century church. The bathroom comprises a marble-topped vanity basin with lighted mirror, walk-in shower and WC, and heated towel rail.
A galleried landing overlooks the atrium and the courtyard garden. All rooms are fitted with electric heaters. French TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs are available for guests. A cot and high chair are available upon request.
Outside the garden area has its own barbecue, table and chairs for those al fresco meals, and a patio alongside the courtyard.

Why Colette and Gary Stephenson chose Lorigné
We fell in love with this property driving into the courtyard. It was picture perfect, even during the winter. Now we are heading to summer, the roses are in bloom, the birds are chirping and it is absolutely bliss.

There are lots of things to see and do in the area. These include: Cognac is only 45 minutes drive, with good cognac and wine tours. Niort, 50 kms, has a chateau, shops, restaurants and kayaking. Vallee des Singes Monkey Park (www.la-vallee-des-singes.fr) is only 30 minutes away - wander from islet to islet in this parkland setting and observe monkeys roaming free in this beautiful cage free habitat. Futuroscope (www.en.futuroscope.com) in Poitiers, about 50 kms away, is a high tech theme park with extreme thrills, images in giant-screen format, breath-taking shows and interactive adventures that will delight your senses, and more. Fun for all the family. Venise Verte (www.la-venise-verte.com) at Niort is a beautiful area of canals with boutique cafes and restaurants. Why not hire a punt with a driver and cruise the waterways. Aire de Rejallent (20 minutes away) on the Charente is particularly scenic with its little bridges and grassy islands. Here you can swim, BBQ and picnic, ramble on riverside trails and of course the kids will love the play area. During July and August canoes and kayaks are available to hire. The popular restaurant offers alfresco dining with views over the river. Don't forget to bring bread for the resident ducks and swans! Every September, Angouleme fills with racing enthusiasts for the Circuit des Ramparts (www.circuit-des-remparts.com), an annual gathering of classic and vintage cars. Modern safety equipment has replaced the hay bales and wooden fences but otherwise the circuit remains unchanged since the first Circuit des Ramparts race in 1939.
